Question. Is there any episode you cannot watch a second time?

I can’t watch episode 13 season 1 the wentworth prison, it’s just a really tough episode to watch for me.

madamefraser · 17/10/2017 23:18

Have had a brief hiatus glad to be back and catching up !
Can’t wait for monday - will be watching in dark on iPad with earphones and no interruptions as DCs are bound to be snapchatting or what not - only problem is DH who gets fed up of me constantly watching it Sadnot sure about that . He will be expecting chit chat about the day . I do work a really hard day on a monday so might just sneak upstairs in pretence of needing a lie down , in the dark with the iPad !!

YoniHuman · 18/10/2017 00:22

Hello, I settled down this evening to watch episode 6 on Amazon. As you all know, it was missing. Sad.
I figured someone on MN would know why and sure enough you do. Sport! Should have guessed!
Anyway, I've had fun reading through the thread. I read the first book about 20 years ago but by Fiery Cross wasn't enjoying them as much. I eventually gave up about a third of the way through Snow & Ashes as couldn't get into it or remember enough details of the previous books.
Loving the tv series.

Are any of you fans of the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness? I'm really looking forward to the Discovery of Witches adaptation with Matthew Goode. Hope Sky don't muck it up. I love historical drama but Jamestown was pants. Just a bad soap opera with ruffs & britches.

I tried the first one but gave up about a third of the way through. Couldn’t get on board with a vampire who does yoga I’m afraid.

I loved Jamestown though Grin

LonelyOversharer · 18/10/2017 09:31

I too enjoyed Jamestown. It ended rather suddenly, I'm guessing more will be made? Couldn't get round the Governor, as I can only see him in lock stock!

We are plodding through the week.

Lessstressedhemum · 18/10/2017 09:42

I don't really do historical drama, tbh, but then, I don't really do romance novels/show either. I honestly think Outlander is the only romance I have read in my adult life. I think that may be why the woo guff doesn't bother me that much. I am a lifelong fantasy reader, particularly of the epic kind. They all have their own magic systems some of which are really quite "out there", so a wee bit of blue light or an appearance by Nessie can't faze me. It's more the wrestling wolves and other stupidity that grinds my gears. Although, |I do think that if she is going to have magic in place it should be a more regular thing, not just the odd ghostly apparition.

Yoni, sorry, I really struggle with "modern" vampire stuff. I can't get to grips with daylight rings, sparkling or any of that stuff. The last vamp books I enjoyed were Anne Rice ones. Loved them and waited on tenterhooks for the next one, but since then there always seems to me to be too many changes to basic vamp lore and I spend too much time fuming to enjoy the books/programmes.

quirkychick · 18/10/2017 09:59

Oh Lessstressed yy to the Anne Rice Vampire novels! Outlander reminds me of these in that you never know what's going to happen next and it combines all the sex, violence, emotions etc. so you're hooked.

I go through phases with reading fantasy, Sci fi, proper "literature", historical. I do like the blending of genres too, makes it less predictable.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 18/10/2017 11:10

but since then there always seems to me to be too many changes to basic vamp lore

Absolutely! I always think they should invent their own monster rather than piggybacking a known one but changing all the ‘rules’. Bloody sparkling vampires that can go out in the daylight, I ask you Angry

SeveredPixieBits · 18/10/2017 12:49

PenguinDi I can't watch Faith again. I absolutely broke my heart during that episode. I don't think I've ever been so upset by a tv show or film. I was completely hysterical. When we did our pre-season watch through I just couldn't go near it.

I also skipped the one where Claire and Murtagh do their travelling minstrel show. That was also painful to watch.... but in a different way Wink Grin I mean seriously, WTAF??!

LonelyOversharer · 18/10/2017 14:12

pixie I really loved the Faith episode, CB acted her socks off in it. With so much of Outlander that SH isn't in criticised as being filling rubbish to get back to his naked arse, some of the other bits are actually excellent.

I watch and rewatch a lot, but have only watched Faith twice. First time I blubbed right through it, second time really watched it, as it wasn't going to shock me so much. On balance I'm quite glad I didn't find Outlander until both seasons had aired, as I would have been gutted to wait a week after watching Faith.

On the other hand, the search is a scream. She looks so uncomfortable all the way through, like even she knows how silly it is. Love Murtagh in it... I think I love all the episodes! But do skip some episodes I'm not in the mood for.

quirkychick · 18/10/2017 14:19

Faith made me cry too. I skipped bits of To Ransom a Man's Soul first time round, as I didn't think I could watch it. I later rewatched it all and found it hadn't been as awful, as the torture/rape scenes were more snippets, in flashback.

Lessstressedhemum · 18/10/2017 14:31

I sobbed through Faith as well, but it was so well done and Catriona Balfe acted out her skin. I know a lot of people say that they an't watch the last 2 episodes of series 1, but I think that's doing a real disservice to Sam and Tobias. They put so much work into those episodes and the acting is fantastic. The only one I struggle with is The Search, the singing and those gypsies, aaarrrggghhh! However, I always watch it anyway because they all look so uncomfortable and it's hilarious.

Courtney, I find that with a lot of modern stuff, tbh. All the lore is changed for the sake of convenience. Often it's just as if an author has written a story and then thought - how can I make this edgy? I know, I'll add a vamp/lycan/whatever, but I'll have to change how they work to fit in. Oh well, who cares about accepted lore and established mythology anyway. It burns my biscuits.

quirkychick · 18/10/2017 20:35

I am glad I rewatched the last episode of series 1, in its entirety, I agree the acting was fantastic. Faith too, but anything with miscarriage/stillbirth will get me bawling. The worst thing being that Claire goes through it all alone.

DryWhiteagainW · 18/10/2017 21:49

Evening everyone!
Not long now.
A agree......I can't rewatch Wentworth or that awful minstrel show episode either.
On Monday we have visitors staying Shock so I'll be watching, alone, headphones in on Tuesday or I'll just tell DH and remaining teenager that there will be loads of sex and that will scare them offGrin

In the mean time I've enjoyed Victoria.....she's a pain in the are but Alberts very sexy in a smouldering way and the two actors have great real chemistry, unlike Damelza and Ross Sad and J Snow and Denerys Sad

YoniHuman · 18/10/2017 23:01

I havn't started on Series 2 of Victoria yet. It's on the Sky+ waiting. DH will watch that one too so It'll have to wait until we've caught up with some other stuff on there
Jamestown already had a 2nd series commissioned before the first one even aired. Even though I thought it was a bit crap & predictable, I will probably still watch it anyway. Blush
So, back to Outlander. I definitely agree with those saying Bree seems very mis-cast, whereas I've found generally the rest of the cast/characters have all been easily recognisable.
How many episodes do we get in season 3?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/10/2017 10:06

They film a lot of Victoria at a stately home just down the road from me. In fact, it’s quite popular as a filming location and I keep hoping that the Outlander production team will do some filming there but no such luck 😫

snozzlemaid · 19/10/2017 16:18

Never wanted a weekend to go so quickly.

Lassies of Lallybroch part 2.....SPOILERS
Dunlurking · 19/10/2017 18:32

Would someone make sure to start a new thread in plenty of time please? I would hate to lose you all just as we are itching to discuss Monday's long awaited episode.

snozzlemaid · 19/10/2017 19:00

Yes. We need a new ‘print shop’ thread.

DryWhiteagainW · 19/10/2017 20:53

Courtney that stately home is very near me too Wink

I'm watching all S2 episodes in preparation for Monday, but ff all the Boring Boston bits.

Can we keep Lassies in the new thread title so we know it's us/spoilery?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/10/2017 21:09

Ooh really Dry? Initials WW?

Me and DH did one of their tours when they were filming the first series and we saw one of the sets (and some leftovers from another show). Didn’t spot any famouses though ☹️

JuneFromBethesda · 19/10/2017 21:54

Oh my god snozzle that photo!!!

Be still my beating heart.

My husband is planning to take the kids to the cinema during the day on either Monday or Tuesday next week. This is very very good as I work from home and may be getting less work than usual done while they're out

DryWhiteagainW · 19/10/2017 22:26

Ummmm no Courtney......perhaps they use more than one Confused

Have just told DH that on Tuesday I will be watching Outlander alone for 75mins and NOONE is allowed to disturb me under any circumstances.

snozzlemaid · 19/10/2017 22:58

Do you think the next episode will start from where the last ended with Jamie on the floor?
Or do you think we'll have a bit of back story of Jamie working at the print shop first and then see Claire appear from his position?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/10/2017 23:03

From what I’ve seen on Reddit, we’re going to see the run up to the reunion from Jamie’s pov.

So they’re going to string us along just a bit more first, I reckon 🙁
