Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I saw the trailer and I'm looking forward to it now. I haven't seen the original series though. I wonder if I should try and watch it before this one starts. I've just started maternity leave so could do with a bit of tv to binge watch!

ShelaghTurner · 25/02/2015 11:56

I've been waiting years for this. Am an avid fan of the books and love the 70s adaptation. I was at the preview of the new series on Monday and, for me as a fan of the original it's very good but very different. If you haven't seen the original you'll probably love it more.

Robin Ellis does have a very small part which I was delighted about! For me, he will always be Ross but Aidan don't hurt Wink

squoosh · 25/02/2015 12:59

I'm looking forward to this. Haven't seen the original series but my mother was a massive fan and named my brother Ross as she had such a crush on that character.

ShelaghTurner · 25/02/2015 13:36

Any boy I had would have been Ross! I did think it funny the other night when they asked Aidan his reaction on getting the part and he said he rang his mum to tell her and and she said 'dear
God you'd better not mess this up!' Grin

EachandEveryone · 25/02/2015 19:07

I vaguely remember it as a child. I must tell my mum.

maudpringles · 25/02/2015 19:31

I am really torn over whether to watch this!
I enjoy the books so much and didn't see the television series the first time.
My cousin is named Demelza as my Aunt was a huge fan and they grew up near Warleggan Envy

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 26/02/2015 11:43

Was astonished and delighted to see there's a new production on its way.

TheCuntOfMonteCristo · 26/02/2015 22:50

Really can't wait. Aidan Turner is a very beautiful man and appears to spend plenty of time smouldering around beautiful countryside in tight breeches and a loose white shirt.

My Mum tells me that the plot is quite good too. But I'm more of a visual type of girl Wink

southeastastra · 26/02/2015 22:55

wasn't aidan turner a werewolf on being human?

i dunno. it looks superslick but not sure

Floundering · 26/02/2015 23:07

Loved the books & the series-can't wait! Grin

VelvetGreen · 26/02/2015 23:42

God i love Poldark. Watched the originals several times, have the novels, books about making the series etc. I'm so nervous in case it is a damp squib like Jamaica Inn was, though i think Aidan Turner will be a pretty convincing Ross (loved him in Desperate Romantics), and i hope Robin Ellis' cameo is a sign he approves. At least it looks like they have filmed much of it in Cornwall.

SwedishEdith · 26/02/2015 23:50

I am very excited about this - Aidan Turner is gorgeous, exactly the right look for anything, really.

silverfingersandtoes · 26/02/2015 23:55

So looking forward to this!! I loved the books and will go against the grain in that Robin Ellis was not my idea of Ross at all - Aiden all the way for me. Can't wait.

funnyossity · 27/02/2015 00:01

The original Demelza was Angharad Rees and I can't imagine anyone else in the role. But I'll give it a go.

It was the first thing I ever saw Christopher Biggins in, I hated his character sooo much.

I am getting excited!

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2015 02:09

I so hope they show it over here! I was so in love with Robin Ellis, he really made me swoon.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 27/02/2015 02:47

It's going to be on Masterpiece later this year AcrossthePond.

I loved the original series (another Robin Ellis admirer here) and looking forward to the new one.

snozzlemaid · 27/02/2015 02:50

I can't wait. I was only young when the first series was on but I remember my mum watching it and all the hysteria following it here in Cornwall.
I have all the books and rewatched the original series last year.
I'm ridiculously excited about seeing this series as I saw them filming it at Charlestown. Aidan Turner is beautiful in the flesh and a really nice bloke. I got his autograph and had a quick chat with him whilst he was in full Ross Poldark costume Grin
Took days for me to come back down to earth.

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2015 02:52

Oh YAY!!! Can't wait. Going to go check my local PBS website to see what they have on the debut date.

I watched the original on Netflix about a year ago. My DH was gone for a few days and I had a marathon. It was lovely. I tried to find it again on Netflix a week ago and it's no longer there.

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2015 02:57

Scone it airs in June locally for me. And there's a very lovely yummy preview video available.

That Aidan Turner is rather scrumptious. No Robin Ellis, but he'll do in a pinch Grin

snozzlemaid · 27/02/2015 03:05

Here's a couple of photos I got of Aidan Turner (Ross Poldark) when filming in Charlestown.

Very jealous snozzelmaid!
Southeastastra - he was a vampire on Being Human.

Galaxymum · 27/02/2015 08:15

Another very excited Poldark and Auden Turner fan. I watched the repeats with my mum when they were on BBC2 about 4 pm - think I was just at high school. Wow! So haunting and rustic and great plot. As soon as I saw Auden Turner in the trailers I knew this would be my huge series this year. Perfect casting. Can't wait to introduce DH to the story.

TheCuntOfMonteCristo · 27/02/2015 08:37

I love the photos. He is just outrageously handsome.

Poor DH. He's had to endure me recently perving over Rupert Friend in Homeland. Now this. There'll be much tutting and eye rolling on a Sunday night. Might banish him to the kitchen while it's on.

Rhubarb01 · 27/02/2015 09:51

Yet another one looking forward to seeing this. Poldark brings back memories of Sunday nights as a child. My mum read all the books(more than once) and still has them on her bookshelf. Robin Ellis was a real heartthrob for ladies of a certain age and I've never been able to see him as anything else. Lovely to see he's appearing in this version too. Ditto the Christopher Biggins comment - whenever I see him on TV I always remember the nasty lecherous Vicar!

Dfg15 · 27/02/2015 10:31

Can't wait for this. I loved the original so hope this lives up to it
