Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I also liked that George Warleggan was played by a handsomer man than originally.

Get ye to specsavers. The gorgeous Ralph Bates wipes the floor with Jack Farthing.

Loved it, though. Aiden is a much better Ross. But Elizabeth was wearing far too much make up.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 09/03/2015 06:47

The fight scene was filmed in that silly almost animated way, but apart from that it was all quite a nice Sunday evening costume romp.

FolknNorah · 09/03/2015 07:08

Well, it was fine, I shall give it the usual three episodes and decide. But yes. I believe I'm in. Seems just the thing, and beautiful Cornwall.
AT is good looking, but, to me not too good looking, which I like. He looks good roughed up. Grin
Beautiful women of course. I also assumed the servants were up to the sexytimes, but, yes. I can see it may have been them just bring lazy doing nothing. Blush
I haven't read the books nor seen the previous series, so am a total poldark virgin. Grin

Baddz · 09/03/2015 08:02

Alright Norah?

Haven't seen it yet...am going to catch it on Iplayer later.
Also haven't seen the first one (before my time)
not many things I can say that about

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 09/03/2015 09:25

I'm definitely in, loved it. Cornwall looking amazing and making me want to book a holiday Grin
I don't know the original, and I vaguely remember reading the book when I was quite young so it's possible that a lot of the plot went over my head. So this is new for me.

AT is gorgeous, loving the cloak and the brooding and the cynicism. comtess do we have a type? Wink

spiderlight · 09/03/2015 09:46

Loved loved loved it. I knew I was going to because I am a tiny bit obsessed with Aidan Turner. He was perfect.

bookwormbeagle · 09/03/2015 10:20

Man alive, Aiden Turner is hot! How have I never heard of him before Blush

Enjoyed the first episode, am also a Poldark virgin, being too young for the 70s version. May check out the books now as heard good things.

squoosh · 09/03/2015 10:25

Well HELLO Aidan Turner!

squoosh · 09/03/2015 10:35

Poor old Elizabeth lumbered with limp old Francis when she could have had knicker quivering Ross.

SadieSimmons · 09/03/2015 10:36

Original Poldark fan, both books and TV but I think I watched the 70s show when it was rerun in the 80s as I'm not that old? Mum had a huge crush on Mr Ellis so insisted we watched it!

Loved the episode last night.

And finally HANDS OFF you unwashed wenches AIDAN is mine all mine ever since the pilot of Being Human............

Mama1980 · 09/03/2015 10:37

Also a yay vote from me for AT Smile
Really enjoyed it. I have seen the first series dvd a million times, my mum was obsessed and saw it first time round on tv.
Elizabeth wasn't quite how I imagine her from the book, too feeling if that makes sense. But I loved everyone else.

IsabellaofFrance · 09/03/2015 10:45

I don't think the actress that plays Demelza is that young, she played Isabel Neville in The White Queen.

I really liked it.

SadieSimmons · 09/03/2015 10:46

And not the pilot pilot, I meant the first episode of the first series of Being Human for all the pedants out their. Mitchell.....mmmmmm

MythicalKings · 09/03/2015 10:48

He's been mine since Desperate Romantics.

squoosh · 09/03/2015 10:53

The actor who plays Demelza is 23. Initially I thought she was the same person who plays Sansa Stark in GoT.

BeCool · 09/03/2015 11:30

I think I'm going to like it.

Hobbitwife001 · 09/03/2015 11:57

Oh my good god, Aidan Turner is so gorgeous, I luffs him so much, he gives me knicker twinges [embarassed]

CurrerBell · 09/03/2015 12:04

Original fan here as well - fond memories of watching the 1980s repeats with my mum, and have re-watched it quite a few times on DVD.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this, but it was great. Aiden Turner is perfectly cast, and I liked Demelza too.

Can't wait for next week!

Enormouse · 09/03/2015 12:05

muminhants · 09/03/2015 12:06

I saw the original - I think it was the first thing I remember seeing on TV at the age of 3. It was rerun in 1987 on Monday (?) afternoons. And probably on UK Gold as well - I had the videos. I've got all the books.

So what did I think? I thought some of the voices were quite similar eg Nicholas Warleggan and even Ross to an extent (not as shouty). Elizabeth wasn't nearly as insipid as the original but yes too much make-up. I didn't like the casting of Verity who was supposed to be much more attractive in the books. I think I preferred the original Francis as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dwight and Caroline come into it.

spiderlight · 09/03/2015 12:10

I have just discovered that Aidan Turner was filimg five minutes from my house last August and i didn't know!!!

Anyone who's just discovered him through Poldark - you need to see Desperate Romantics as well as Being Human.

spiderlight · 09/03/2015 12:10

*filming

squoosh · 09/03/2015 12:12

Hmmm, I thought Desperate Romantics was a load of old tosh. And Being Human is that vampirey thing isn't it?

Think I'll stick with Poldark.

squoosh · 09/03/2015 12:12

But he's a fellow Dub, so it's nice to see him do well.
