Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

There was a preview of the first episode shown in Truro last night and I've read really good reviews. No mumbling, great actors, stunning scenery and good accents.

LouiseBrooks · 27/02/2015 20:25

Aidan Turner is very handsome but he's not Robin Ellis. It's not just about being good looking. However, although I loved the original I shall certainly give this a go. I hope it's good.

Lovelise · 27/02/2015 20:51

I can't wait! Will definitely be watching. It's a family tradition to read the books.

I bought the videos (hehe) of the original series, 2nd hand YEARS ago and watched avidly with DM & DF every Sunday evening.

I haven't seen it advertised on bbc though.

ShelaghTurner · 27/02/2015 21:10

So pleased to see other fans on here. Means I'll have someone to talk to after each ep. DH is totally disinterested.

Lovelise here's the BBC trailer...

Oh I loved Poldark when I was a child. I've seen the trailer for the new series but like a pp said Demelza will always be Angharad Rees to me so not sure if I will like it but will watch for old times sake!

Lovelise · 28/02/2015 13:57

Thanks Snozzlemaid. It looks awesome!

MrsSlocombesPussy · 28/02/2015 14:03

Yes, very excited about this! Aidan Turner does have the right look for Ross! Does anyone know which books this series will cover? If they do it right, I would love it to run for several series.

snozzlemaid · 28/02/2015 14:10

I think this series covers the first two books. So plenty of story left for future series.

ShelaghTurner · 28/02/2015 14:11

Yes just the first two. They've signed him up for 5 more series.

scratchandsniff · 28/02/2015 14:18

Don't remember the original series. Just watched the trailer for the new one, bloody hell he's handsome! Definitely going to be tuning in and salivating. Double bonus if it's a good storyline.

ShelaghTurner · 28/02/2015 14:28

The storyline is excellent! And there's loads of if Wink Handsome men, Cornish scenery, wild seas, mines, romance, fighting, it's got the lot!

I adored the first adaptation so this is going to be hard to watch without comparing but watch it I will!

AcrossthePond55 · 28/02/2015 22:09

The thing about the original Poldark was that it was just so very romantic. Star crossed lovers, betrayal, happy endings, it had everything. Because it was in the 70s it couldn't rely on sex scenes for 'storyline' or to fill time. It had to be action and dialogue. I think I recall seeing one bare bum in it, though, which was quite shocking for US TV in the 70s.

Now, if they want to show Aidan Turner's bare bum, I promise not to be shocked Wink.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 01/03/2015 17:03

I'm assuming, as it's on at 9pm, that it will have more sex scenes in! I remember watching it as a child in the 70s, so it was definitely pre-watershed then.

snozzlemaid · 01/03/2015 18:08

Don't think it'll have much in, as dvd has been given a 12 rating.

ShelaghTurner · 01/03/2015 18:47

I think it's going to be pretty clean. The first one was too but they will insist on calling these things 'bodice rippers'. I don't remember a single bodice ripping last time and I've seen them often enough.

Dumbledoresgirl · 01/03/2015 18:54

I'll give it a go but I am another one old enough to remember the original series - and to have watched it ad infinitum as I have them on video - and I can't imagine anyone topping Robin Ellis. Or the first guy who played Dwight for that matter but whose name escapes me for the moment.

Angharrad Rees, on the other hand, I have always been faintly annoyed by, so it will be interesting to see the new Demelzaaaaaahh.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 02/03/2015 09:29

That's a relief - the stories are good enough without being 'sexed up'.
It's a while since I saw the original series (I bought the box set on VHS in the 90s). I think the rudest bit was when Christopher Biggins was spying on his sister-in-law.

ShelaghTurner · 02/03/2015 15:39

Oh yes you did see Biggins looking at arse cheeks Grin

WinterHoliday · 02/03/2015 18:40

ShelaghTurner - I was at the same preview screening on the Monday at the BFI. I was really impressed by the first episode!

I went with a friend who had never read the books or seen the original and she enjoyed it too.

ShelaghTurner · 02/03/2015 20:52

I really enjoyed the whole thing. It was odd watching it in essentially a giant living room full of other fans! And having the actors along the row was weird. But it was a great night and I was impressed with the first ep. Glad that it went down well with an uninitiated viewer too.

snozzlemaid · 02/03/2015 20:59

Aidan Turner and Robin Ellis are going to be on The One Show on Wednesday. Looking forward to seeing them together. I love how Robin has shown so much support for this remake.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/03/2015 14:04

I've seen a few articles about Robin Ellis and he just seems to be a very kind, grounded man. His support for the remake it part of what makes me feel it's going to be very well done.

I've never read the books. I'll have to see if I can get them for my iPad.

EauPea · 03/03/2015 14:26

Snozzlemaid sooo jealous of how close you were to Aidan Turner.

I'm guessing I'm only a couple of miles inland from you (going by your username), I managed to miss out on all the filming.

Still there's always hope that Aidan Turner lands a starring role in Doc Martin.

ShelaghTurner · 03/03/2015 14:47

Robin Ellis is delightful. I chat to him on Twitter every so often (sound of name dropping) and he's so nice and friendly. If I had the money and could cook more than pasta I'd go on one of his cookery weekends in France.
