I just realised- the old grey haired bloke in the restaurant was the boy from Press Gang. I am old!

no, I mean I saw them on the credits and thought, ooh, I heard those names together recently, I wonder where?

Not 'wow, I've never heard of those names before'. Grin

Davros · 29/04/2014 16:09

limitedperiod phwah, that's a bit extreme! I luffs my Radio Times but I don't always read AG and NEVER Sarah Millican
edam I'm just being a bitch saying how common popular those names are!

edamsavestheday · 29/04/2014 16:15

With a name like Davros, you aren't always sweetness and light? Golly. Grin

OverlookedConfection · 29/04/2014 16:17

I was completely overwhelmed by Episode 5 and found last night a bit of a comedown, to be honest. Still great TV but not as mindblowing as the week before.

Perhaps it would have worked better as a one hour special on Easter Monday (when there was no Newsnight to get in the way of the timings).

Davros · 29/04/2014 16:18

Oh yes, I forgot. I am working on the destruction of the human race.
I agree about the one hour special.

OverlookedConfection Yes. But that's often the way. It won't mean anything to anyone who hasn't watched it, but I was amazed by the penultimate episode of the first season of American Horror Story.

Really good.

The finale was stupidly Beetlejuicy.

That series is still worth watching - I've watched the others but I don't like them. Inertia, I guess.

I also faithfully watched the first series of Heroes but was so discusted by the stupid final scene that I vowed never to watch it again.

And I've stuck with that because I have principles. Wink

DH has refused to watch Game of Thrones beyond the first series because: 'The dragons were cute. Everyone knows that dragons aren't cute.' Confused

Dragons don't exist. So they can be cute or terrifying and all points in between. DH and I have had that conversation. It's not really worth it.

nennypops · 29/04/2014 21:18

I think it's right that Adam remains a vicar - he wouldn't be happy doing anything else. I suppose the church may recognise a duty to provide somewhere for the congregation to worship and supply an ultra-modern church building - in fact, if they had any sense they'd make that part of the deal with any developers who take over the church building. But it's more likely Adam would just be moved to another parish.

PootlewasthebestFlump · 29/04/2014 21:26

A poet in New York is on bbc Wales tomorrow at 9pm if anyone needs a TH fix.

BalloonSlayer · 30/04/2014 06:35

Pootle John Lewis do that tablecloth in duck egg blue. Smile

BalloonSlayer · 30/04/2014 06:37

here you go

Assuming you meant "covet" ?

PootlewasthebestFlump · 30/04/2014 22:35

Thank you Slayer though I bought the el cheapo version off eBay ;-)

My DH is a bit of a cheapo version of TH, and the red wine we drink of an evening is more Lidl than Waitrose...

Sigh.

PootlewasthebestFlump · 30/04/2014 22:37

I like how you posted about tablecloths in here at 6.30am though. Impressive commitment to the cause.

BalloonSlayer · 01/05/2014 06:41

Yes my tablecloth commitment is second to none! Grin I have the John Lewis one and TBH it is el cheapo itself - only PVC and not oilcloth or whatever they call it, but I care not!

PootlewasthebestFlump · 01/05/2014 18:15

Well if my eBay one turns out to be too shabby I'll know where to go.

Has anyone seen any good reviews or articles about Rev series 3? It seems fairly quiet in the media apart from short tv reviews.

BookABooSue · 03/05/2014 15:16

I've just caught up with the final episode. I must admit I had a tear in my eye at points. Poor Adam and poor Alex.

Thinking back over this series, I do slightly agree with the Radio Times reviewer. I don't mind the bleakness or the crisis of faith. I think all of that has been beautifully managed but I just didn't 'believe' Adam would snog Ellie. Yes, he was sleep and sex deprived. Yes, he's had a crush on her for a while but it didn't ring true for me. I wish something else had prompted the crisis.

Apart from the Ellie storyline, I think Rev has been great at capturing the reality of life in the Church and in lots of parishes. The Ellie storyline moved away from that reality and that makes me a little sad.

Still, I will always be thankful for Liam Neeson dancing on a hill and for all the other beautiful and funny scenes so cheers to them all for some great stories and acting Wine

Davros · 03/05/2014 15:38

But didn't that have to happen in order to follow the Easter storyline? That's what I think AG in the RT has missed. It was like that to make the story work. It isn't a question of being bleak or not but telling that story. I honestly don't know as I don't have an ounce of religious knowledge but that is what I had assumed.

BookABooSue · 03/05/2014 16:46

Davros something had to happen to make the parishioners turn against Adam, and for Adam to feel abandoned by the Church but I just wish it had been something else eg Adam letting the convicted paedophile help with the accounts, or even some massive misjudgement over another issue (eg accepting the drug money for funds).

Maybe it's because I struggled with how quickly Alex forgave Adam too.

Plus up to that point, a lot of Rev seemed similar to a lot of parishes. But very few parishes have sex scandals that make the papers so it suddenly pushed the series away from that very firm foundation that it had built (but I realise that I'm typing that as someone who was in a parish that had an incredibly public and damaging sex scandal so maybe it is common enough!).

Of course, it's also entirely possible that I've thought about all this too much Grin

Davros · 03/05/2014 16:59

I see, I thought it had to be a kiss for some reason. Once they went down the path of parralleling the Easter story they seem to have done it justice but it necessarily lost a lot of the warmth and humour to that purpose.

Etinoxaurus · 16/04/2022 08:47

Bump for anyone who like me rewatched at Easter. It’s on Britbox, must now cancel the 7 day trial Easter Grin
I remembered the episode with the cock crowing and Liam as the final one so the final one was new to me.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/04/2022 17:20

Adam's singing of the Exultet, the Easter proclamation is spine tingling the beautiful.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/04/2022 10:07

oh i Loved Rev
i dont remember the easter one but I always remember the christmas episode

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 22/04/2022 09:50

Our vicar said Rev is the most accurate description tv wise of what it’s like to be in the ministry

Toddlerteaplease · 22/04/2022 20:37

@MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot I know a lot of priests and I think they agree!
