I just realised- the old grey haired bloke in the restaurant was the boy from Press Gang. I am old!

The priests and elders might be those two women who are always counting their pennies.

MrsCakesPremonition · 22/04/2014 17:28

And seeking to make money out of the house of god...

PansBigChainring · 22/04/2014 20:10

Pontius Pilot (Ralph) tells Adam he is innocent to which Adam replies "If you say I am" as the response was to being called King of the Jews.

Bue · 22/04/2014 20:18

This thread is so educational. To people who don't think religious education is important, I say you can't watch light Monday night BBC comedy without it!

Very loosely, I think the diocesan women are the money changers and merchants (although Adam doesn't actually drive them away - but maybe he will?!) And then would Robert represent the priests taking Adam to Bishop Ralph/PP? (I've noticed nobody actually knows Ralph's character's name.)

Mrs, geez I hope not. I am still completely confident of our happy ending! Although quite how that will happen when he's been treated so awfully by the congregation (oh sorry, his apostles!) is puzzling.

SunshineBossaNova · 22/04/2014 20:20

Bue I'm studying English Lit and, despite being a happy atheist, think the Bible is essential reading. It illuminates so much of what we read, see and hear.

I hope the series has a happy ending. It's been a bit bleak.

MrsCakesPremonition · 22/04/2014 20:21

Perhaps Adam will start his own, new religion?

OverlookedConfection · 22/04/2014 21:19

Oh I am so glad there is a thread. I love rev. I loved the religious imagery but wonder what next for Adam.

Tigresswoods · 22/04/2014 21:43

Poor Adam.

ElizabethJennings · 22/04/2014 22:26

It was very good this week, wasn't it.

sleepstrategy · 22/04/2014 22:36

What was that latin phrase Bishop Ralph/PP used? Sounded like 'eta impeache'
I love the gravitas of Latin and also Liam neeson's advice - 'buy cheap, buy twice' I must use that tomorrow ;)

OverlookedConfection · 22/04/2014 22:39

ite in pace - "go in peace". What we say at the end of the service Smile.

OverlookedConfection · 22/04/2014 22:42

ite in pacem - wretched phone

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 23/04/2014 08:09

I think Robert (and Alex of course) is the only one who I trust to do the right thing. And I can't believe that Colin won't come good. But the Radio Times is full of dark warnings (and complaints) about next week's episode, so I'm not feeling confident about their miracle.

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 23/04/2014 08:10

Oh, and while we're ticking off the metaphors, just to state the bleeding obvious, the parish meeting they had with the cake was the Last Supper.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/04/2014 08:16

Adams not christening her because he doesn't believe in infant baptism, it's irrelevant to him.

I found the episode quite hard to watch, it was really sad. Can't believe bloody Nigel, what a pious cock he is.

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 23/04/2014 08:20

I never thought Nigel would stoop that low. But in his defence I can imagine that working with Adam would start to get you down after a while - he's done some dreadful and /or baffling stuff over the years. Clearly he's still an atrocious cunt though.

I thought Robert taking the service was one of the funniest things I've seen in ages.

ImaThrill not bleeding obvious at all. I completely missed that.

Sunshine absolutely!

Well Nigel had a point, yes, but the appropriate way of handling it would have been a quiet word with Adam, not reporting him to the Diocese. Actually what annoyed me even more than turning Adam in was the way Nigel thought they could just carry on as normal. I would have been tempted to do much worse than just clobber him with some papers.

iK8 · 23/04/2014 12:00

Gosh I am so slow! This whole series has been a metaphor for the last few weeks of Jesus. We've had the time in the wilderness and I think the smashing of the statue was also significant. I'm going to have to watch the whole lot again I think!

sleepstrategy · 23/04/2014 14:55

Thanks for the Latin, it's lovely OC
Presbyterians (myself and Liam Neeson) miss out on Latin

polyhymnia · 23/04/2014 17:17

'Go in peace' should be 'ite in pace' not 'pacem' (it's ablative after 'in'). As there was only one of Adam, strictly speaking the imperative should have been singular ('i') not plural ('ite') - but that would have sounded odd.

( Yes I am a sad pedant ).

ElizabethJennings · 23/04/2014 17:23

So who was the child sex offender supposed to be? A leper? And when Alex kicked Adam out was the wilderness? And what about the episode about working with the iman?

2whippetsnobed · 23/04/2014 17:29

I loved this episode (just caught up) but I will watch it again I think.

MrsCakesPremonition · 23/04/2014 18:04

As the child sex offender was also a banker and an accountant, I suspect he may have been the tax gatherer on Palm Sunday.

PansBigChainring · 23/04/2014 18:14

oh good one Mrs. I thought that scenario with the abuser was handled pretty well and authentically. He had about 5 pieces of dialogue and produced a lot from it. Excellent scripting for a dark subject in a 'comedy' platform. I thought.
