We hope it's not The Final Problem. Sherlock - 9pm Sunday - BBC1

I thought it might be an idea to start a new thread for The Reichenbach Fall since The Hounds got its thread up to over 200 pages since last Sunday!

Non-spoilery vague preview description: "Sherlock and John lock horns with their old enemy in one final problem that tests loyalty and courage to their very limits. Sherlock must fight for his reputation, his sanity and his life. But is he all he claims to be?"

BBC link for The Reichenbach Fall

Take note of the later start time of 9pm. Get your deerstalkers and spiffy pocket magnifiers ready!

8.10, 8,30, 9pm, are they trying to confuse us?

OnlyANinja · 15/01/2012 11:02

At least it's not earlier so no-one is missing the beginning!

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 11:12

It's to get your Holmesian powers of observation and deduction up and running before the ep begins! Grin

Poor DD & me have to watch on iPlayer as she goes to bed at 9 on school nights (when she can)

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 15/01/2012 11:17

Stephen Moffet just tweeted...

Not spoilery, but if you want to go in with absolutely no preconceptions, don't read further

"What a melancholy day. A day for a great man to fall and a good man to cry. The end of an era begins at 9 o'clock tonight, BBC1. #sherlock"

Way to make me twitchy for the rest of the day...

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 11:35

They're all at it! Mark Gatiss is going for The Final Problem quotes with the opening words yesterday:

"It is with a heavy heart..." 24 hrs till the Fall! #Sherlock

And the final words today:

#Sherlock BBC1 9pm. 'The Reichenbach Fall'. "The best and the wisest man whom I have ever known".

I think they like watching expectant fans froth with terrified anticipation!

But if you know Sherlock Holmes - you know what happens at Reichenbach Falls....and the subsquent twist...which they will save for the next series...

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 15:23

The writers, producers and actors have all been quite cagey about whether they intend to go on to make a third series though - and with Messers Cumberbatch and Freeman taking on a lot of major commitments like the Hobbit and Star Trek at the mo, if they wanted to neatly tie off Sherlock then a take on Reichenbach would be the way to go.

I personally think tonight will quite possibly end on Sherlock at least appearing dead, but there'll be another series in the distant pipe work - with the delay due to other work we'd be lucky to see anything before Autumn 2013 even if they got plotting straight away!

I thought they were definitely making another series but filming won't be before next year because of BC's filming commitments on Star Trek.

MrsChemist · 15/01/2012 15:32

BC doing Star Trek? What? How do I not know about this?

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 15:34

They seem fond of stirring - lots of interviews say we'd love to make more if the opportunity arises, it all depends, yadda... Steven Moffat gave an interview in NME earlier this week that responded to the series 3 question with just "if he survives". The big tease!

TheParanoidAndroid · 15/01/2012 15:34

Martin Freeman said he definitely wanted to do more Sherlock but that it wouldn't happen for a couple of years due to other projects.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/01/2012 15:35

I wish there was a way to force them to make more Hmm

It's really fucking irritating that they made 3, every fucker LOVED it, they kept us waiting for 18 fucking months ! To only make fucking 3 again!!

It's like a slightly abusive drunken friend that you care about popping up occasionally and then bloody disappearing.

Oy!!!! Sherlock writers - make fucking more!!!! Bbc1 - STOp making eastenders and other shit and just make more Sherlock.

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 15:36

MrsChemist - he's been cast for the next Star Trek film as a baddie of some kind but no other details are yet forthcoming.

Frankly I think if they don't make him a Vulcan/Romulan of some kind then they are just wasting the killer cheekbones genetics blessed him with...

He's also apparently not just voicing Smaug the dragon the The Hobbit but he's also doing motion capture for it - I can't wait for the behind the scenes footage of him in a skintight motion capture suit, frolicking around a cave being all dragon-y. Grin

3 episodes does not a series make! Angry

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 15:42

Laurie I do agree with the feeling behind your post, but in the old quality-quantity stakes I know which side I'd take.

At 90 mins long each ep is basically a film in its own right, so doing three in a row is going to take quite a bit of time and effort.

I know I've been spoilt by US TV drama series where they churn out 24 episodes at 45 mins long for series after series, but then you look at the shooting schedule and see interviews with people like Hugh Laurie and the producers/writers/etc for House who face months of 14 hour days to produce it all. For megabucks, yes, but it can't be much of a life.

If there was some way be could bin Eastenders, all the reality TV shite and overblown nonsense then clone all the necessary Sherlock personnel to make enough for it to be on every week then I'd do it in a flash. And keep a couple of spare clones handy for me too...

OP posts:
MrsChemist · 15/01/2012 15:54

Oh indeed, all he needs is prosthetic ears, and he would be a perfect Romulan (just seen he's a villain, so I assume Romulan rather than Vulcan)

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 16:55

Four hours and counting!

Occupying myself with a little pre-Fall entertainment

Conan Doyle killed off Sherlock Holmes at the Falls and then brought him back by popular demand.

LetUsPrey · 15/01/2012 19:07

givemushypeasachance - I've linked to this thread from the last one.

Sadly, we'll bit a bit behind tonight because we'll be watching on Sky+.

Been reading Moffat's and Gatiss's tweets. This from Moffat "Two tributes to the past, in tonight's Sherlock. True devotees will spot them. THROUGH THEIR TEARS!!!"

What?! WHAT?!

I feel slightly sick already.

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 19:31

Canon-spotting references are a lot of the fun with this series - huzzah for fanboys turned creators. Grin I'm sure there will be tears before bedtime but I can barely wait another hour and a half for it to start...

Mark Gatiss has tweeted to look out for a "very special cameo" too; I believe his partner appears as a barrister at one point so I don't know if he's referring to that or something more tricksy!

Hope this is true from The Express. Looks like it could be a while off though...

diddl · 15/01/2012 20:15

I love the idea that they think we´ll cry because a fictional character dies-or does he??!!

LetUsPrey · 15/01/2012 20:25

You mean he's not real?

LetUsPrey · 15/01/2012 20:27

Just realised that probably came across as really arsey. It wasn't meant to be.
