I thought it might be an idea to start a new thread for The Reichenbach Fall since The Hounds got its thread up to over 200 pages since last Sunday!

Non-spoilery vague preview description: "Sherlock and John lock horns with their old enemy in one final problem that tests loyalty and courage to their very limits. Sherlock must fight for his reputation, his sanity and his life. But is he all he claims to be?"

Sherlock landed on cushions in the rubbish truck, Molly was waiting to do his make up then put him back on the pavement and fake dead. No one took his pulse and the cyclist stopped Watson seeing everything. Sherlock also made him stand where he wouldn't see impact. After being hit by the cyclist he was not fully with it either

People on the street and doctors were in on it maybe. Molly found another body for funeral purposes.

IveGotTightsOlderThanYouLove · 15/01/2012 22:41

I meant, why not JUST jump?

IveGotTightsOlderThanYouLove · 15/01/2012 22:42

Why did Moriarty get emotional and kill himself? To ensure that Sherlock jumped? Why did he say they're the same person?

MadameBoolala · 15/01/2012 22:43

How did he do that then?

MadameBoolala · 15/01/2012 22:44

I haven't read the rest of the thread. I am sure that 6 million other people have asked that!

diddl · 15/01/2012 22:45

He told John that he´s a fake so that John won´t care as much about him being dead?

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 22:45

Sherlock needed to convince John and everyone else that he was really properly dead because of the three snipers lined up to kill his buddies (or buddy, fondly thought-of landlady and his "handler"). They had to believe he jumped to his death or they were going to carry out their orders to kill everyone else - I'd imagine even if he made it look like he jumped but then popped up again the next day very much alive, they'd just come back and finish the job - bang, bang, bang. Sherlock needed time to track them each down and sort them out so all the important folk needed to think him dead till he was done.

Reserving judgement on Moriarty. I'm prepared to believe he is not dead, but not sure how!!!

diddl · 15/01/2012 22:46

Perhaps Moriarty was buried as SH?

spikemomma · 15/01/2012 22:47

Caveman and blackout - ditto! I hope moriaty isn't dead cos I think the chemistry between the two actors is excellent. They are so witty, twisted genious and sinister all at the same time.

I really think the writers, BBC and actors made a ripper of a show. It touched every emotion. Loved it!

I found it so gripping and emotional; bless Molly, those scenes were so touching, so was Martin freeman and benny was born for that role!

Blooooooody brilliant. (I've stopped yelling me eyes out now!).

CaveMum · 15/01/2012 22:47

Mycroft will be in on it too. He always is Wink

cyb · 15/01/2012 22:47

I think I held my breath for the best part of 40 minutes

LOVED Declan Donnelly as Moriarty too

MadameBoolala · 15/01/2012 22:47

Right, I've read the thread.

Even if he did jump off and land in a bin - he'd still injure himself quite badly and risk death wouldn't he?

lilibet · 15/01/2012 22:47

What did Moriaty do to the little girl to make her scream when she saw Sherlock?

PaintedToenails · 15/01/2012 22:48

Had to be some input from Mollie. We can't have him asking for help and then never finding out what that 'help' was....

CaveMum · 15/01/2012 22:49

Lilibet, the kidnapper probably wore a "Sherlock" mask.

Greenknowe · 15/01/2012 22:50

I'm sure that a Sherlock mask is involved in the body swap too; why else would the ambassador's daughter have been terrified of BC....

givemushypeasachance · 15/01/2012 22:50

lilibet - I like to imagine that he had the person who kidnapped the kids wear a Sherlock mask, curly wig and a big coat. That would be enough to scare anyone!

CaveMum - Big Brother has eyes everywhere, if he wasn't in on it from the minute fakedead!Sherlock was wheeled back into Barts (if not earlier and helping with the whole thing) then he really is getting slow!

Great minds Cave!

PreHeatedOven · 15/01/2012 22:51

Third series third series eek! He said on twitter!

Hassled · 15/01/2012 22:51

I knew S wouldn't be dead because I knew the writers would stick to the Reichenbach Falls - but I did think they'd keep us hanging on for a couple of years before the reveal (as Conan Doyle did). I think he told Watson he was a fake to test him, rather than to stop him caring.

daenerysstormborn · 15/01/2012 22:52

definitely molly that helped. that's what moriarty got wrong, sherlock had 4 friends, not just 3 Wink

diddl · 15/01/2012 22:52

Thinking, he would tell John he was a fake to explain his suicide?

CaveMum · 15/01/2012 22:52

Whatever way we look at it, we've got to wait until at least 2014 before we get Series 3 [wails]

NoWayNoHow · 15/01/2012 22:52

Think EverybodysSnowyEyed has hit the nail on the head - that's exactly how he did it I reckon. And he would've paid a cyclist to hit Watson to prevent him running over immediately.

I had tears streaming down my face at the end with Martin Freeman's speech at the grave. What a fab actor.
