Is it just me, or is it really just not funny? I feel almost embarrassed watching it - it is so cringy!

OP posts:

oh I love it

southeastastra · 02/02/2011 08:24

don't watch it then Grin

ng1412 · 02/02/2011 11:10

I am with you jennymac, and I won't watch it but she is everywhere right now and everyone is raving about how funny she is. Feel like I am missing something Confused

noddyholder · 02/02/2011 11:11

Me too Don't find her funny at all.So middle class bbc

notnowbernard · 02/02/2011 11:12

I think she's very funny

It's her timing, I think

Yes she's middle class but she can still be funny, no?

MollysChambers · 02/02/2011 11:14

I think she's hilarious.

But I don't get Glee. At all. Despite everyone raving about it.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 02/02/2011 11:14

I can see both sides of this. I really don't like her show, but I do like her on other things.
I think it helps that we are similar in height and build and clumsyness.

2shoes · 02/02/2011 11:16

couln't give a flying fuck if she is middle class, she is really funny

noddyholder · 02/02/2011 11:21

oo er

noddyholder · 02/02/2011 11:27

BTW wasn't referring to her middle classness but the whole BBc thing. It is the reason that My Family show drives me mad too.The sets and the delivery are so far removed from most peoples lives. Her being middle class is irrelevant to me really She comes across well on other things but that show is cringey!

Ormirian · 02/02/2011 11:30

I love it. Kids love it.

notnowbernard · 02/02/2011 11:32

I do see your point there, Noddy

But I think that probably her RL was/is a bit like that (from interviews I've read with her - went to boarding school IIRC)

MarniesMummy · 02/02/2011 11:34

I loathe it, DP loathes it! Wouldn't let my children watch such rubbish.

I often think that maybe it's just us as it seems to wins awards by the bucketful but for me it's not even in the same universe as funny.

Ormirian · 02/02/2011 11:37

"The sets and the delivery are so far removed from most peoples lives"

I'm not sure that is important. Thank the lord, Eastenders is far removed from my life but that doesn't stop it being entertaining at times. Ditto Silent Witness (which I love). And comedy has always drawn on ridiculous stereotypes for it's material.

PinkElephant73 · 02/02/2011 11:39

I don't get it either, maybe its because she reminds me of me, and not in a good way!

Aitch · 02/02/2011 11:40

it's funny because SHE's funny. some people just have funny bones, i think. she's adorable, and the show is adorable. and cringey and crap and bourgeois and silly and unrealistic and all the other things you say... but because she is at the heart of it, it works.

my family, otoh, is utter cack.

noddyholder · 02/02/2011 11:40

Just not my thing. The BBC perpetuate this myth that we all live a certain way. I just don't think she's funny though regardless

trice · 02/02/2011 11:40

I know someone who is actually Miranda in real life. She knows it too. So I think it is incredibly funny.

daimbardiva · 02/02/2011 11:41

Oh, I really like her. I think she's funny, has great timing, takes the piss out of her self and she and Patricia Hodge make a great team.

That Stevie woman is a bit annoying though.

Lovetheskinurine · 02/02/2011 11:43

I didn't watch it for ages thinking it would be rubbish. Seemed like an old fashioned sitcom format that wouldn't work any more. I watched it once at my Mum's house and found myself laughing out loud against my better judgement. I have been won over.

My Family is utter cack, it always sounds too stilted and staged.

marge2 · 02/02/2011 11:44

I find it a bit hit and miss. Makes me roar with laugter sometimes, but not always.

LadyGaga · 02/02/2011 11:47

I just find it so boring old school comedy. I liked her more when she was doing the duo "The Orange Girls" with a tiny blondie girl...who looks a lot like the one in the series.

BRING BACK SMACK THE PONY!!!

Froglets · 02/02/2011 11:47

I love it!

But then i find falling over very funny so that is probably why.

I like the bit at the end where they all wave too

MarniesMummy · 02/02/2011 11:47

Silent Witness! Now there's a funny programme, the series finale couldn't come fast enough for me.

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 11:49

I couldn't believe it when I first saw it. I fell in love with it straight away. Which is very rare for me with female comedians - but I really connect with her.

I went to an all girls boarding school and recognise a lot of the humour.

DH thinks she's a bit meh, but I won't miss it.
