Is it just me, or is it really just not funny? I feel almost embarrassed watching it - it is so cringy!

OP posts:
darkbluebird · 02/02/2011 13:38

mostly cringgy and doesn't work imo!

but my sister loves it so tried to give it another go and watched it at christmas

the breast slap in the chirstmas episode was vfunny as was chatting up the doc in the surgery. but the rest, rubbish. i think it's particulary spoiled by the unfunny sidekick friend.

yes what MIFLAW said

cestlavie · 02/02/2011 13:39

Oh such fun!

It's a what I call a thread!

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 13:39

Goodness have been looking her up and it would seem I know some of her family.

Such fun!

OpheliaBumps · 02/02/2011 13:43

I love Miranda! It has me and DH in fits.

It's very cringy - but that's what's so good about it.

Why are people lumping this in the same category as My Family? Complete opposites to me - I can't bear My Family, leaves me cold.

valiumredhead · 02/02/2011 13:44

The psychiatrist episode was the funniest IMO - I howled laughing, and I watched it on my own Blush

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 13:45

Its probably being commented on with My Family, Outnumbered, Not Going Out, because there are so few comedy shows on now, in the sitcom format. Its all edgy, clever stuff or stand up.

Miranda shines through in this genre, IMO.

LadyBlaBlah · 02/02/2011 13:46

I like her on everything she does. Apart from her own show Confused

Bucharest · 02/02/2011 13:46

Thank goodness I'm not alone.
The first time I ever saw her was in some Children in Need (or Red Nose) sketch a couple of years ago.
It was like being transported back, as the OP says, into the cringey 70s slapstick falling-down-is-funny stuff.
It's like post-modernist Jeremy Beadle. Just dire.

darkbluebird · 02/02/2011 13:46

When i say cringey i don't mean funny but in an embarrasing way, i mean cringey as in a embarrasingly unfunny way.

2old4thislark · 02/02/2011 13:47

I love her and love the show - just watched some of that link Grin

Maybe I find it funny because she sort of reminds me of me. And I have a very puerile sense of humour too.

The bit where she farted when she met the new man my DH kept rewinding on sky+ and playing it over and over again until I was crying with laughter!

sweetandtenderhooligan · 02/02/2011 13:47

I've tried it and I just don't like it. It's just not funny. Neither is Outnumbered.

MarniesMummy · 02/02/2011 13:49

Come on now Bucharest, she's not funny but there's no need to bring Jeremy Beadle into it.Grin

balloonballs · 02/02/2011 13:50

My God "Not Going out" how the hell does it keep getting commissioned? It's hideously bad as well.

ThePosieParker · 02/02/2011 13:51

Love it.

Bucharest · 02/02/2011 13:52

You see, that's just it, the slapstick. I bet she's the sort of person who would get hysterical at school if breasts were mentioned.
She's like a 14 yr old boy.

MIFLAW · 02/02/2011 13:53

The scripts make Hi-de-Hi and 'Allo 'Allo look like Peep Show.

HoorahHilda · 02/02/2011 13:56

Love it Love it Love it

KPidgeon · 02/02/2011 13:57

I like her show despite myself. It's silly and not-offensive and I generally like offensive/sharp humour. I think she/her character would be very funny to hang around with for a day.

Actualy- I met the actress and she was lovely- very quiet and shy.

Minnerva · 02/02/2011 13:57

We love it too in our house........
makes me Grin

JemimaMop · 02/02/2011 13:59

Not going out is terrible IMO

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 14:00

agreed Not Going Out makes me wish I had

ppeatfruit · 02/02/2011 14:01

Miranda hart is brilliant! i usually HATE slapstick but she does it SOO well ( I love her camera asides) The writing is good. I don't like The Family either, liked fast Show and Blackadder & Father Ted.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 02/02/2011 14:01

If you don't snort with laughter at about 12.15 in the video that was linked, you are probably unconscious.

2old4thislark · 02/02/2011 14:04

Oh dear - beginning to think there might be something wrong with me - we're watched some of the new series of Not Going Out and are finding it quite funny........I also loved Allo Allo..........

In my defence my favourite comedian currently is Rhod Gilbert......saw him live last week and laughed till I ached.

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 14:05

2old - nothing wrong with you. comedy is a personal thing, hey. I, for example, think hanging is too good for John Bishop.
