Is it just me, or is it really just not funny? I feel almost embarrassed watching it - it is so cringy!

GOD I HATE My Family.

Mouseface · 02/02/2011 11:58

We love it here. DD is a bit like her at times Grin

noddyholder · 02/02/2011 11:58

Don't get me started on Outnumbered Grin

rupaul · 02/02/2011 12:02

It's absolutely not funny. She is pleasant and warm herself but the show is poor. She even said herself after the awards she couldn't believe that she was up against her heroes like David Mitchell etc.
It's not about the genre or the fact that it's unrealistic. I like slapstick. I like 70s sitcoms. I like Father Ted.
I just don't like this. I would like to laugh but can't even raise a smile.

That advert she does sums it up for me . It starts well, you imagine she might say something funny but then she gets to 'The constant comparisons to Shakespeare ...' Couldn't she have written something a bit better than that?

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 12:03

oh please share your thoughts on Outnumbered noddy - I have missed any threads on MN about it. whats the consensus?

Debs75 · 02/02/2011 12:03

Miranda is hilarious. The episode where her and her mum where at the psychiatrists had me in stitches.
Yes they might be removed from rl but my rl wouldn't make much of a comedy. She has great comic timing and a comedic build. She was also really good in Not Gong Out.

Noddy I love Outnumbered

rupaul · 02/02/2011 12:06

Perhaps she could employ her comic timing and other comic atttributes in a programme written by someone else?

TanteRose · 02/02/2011 12:07

love her!

I don't live in the UK but got the DVD of her first series for Xmas, and watched it in one go last weekend. Admittedly, I am a bit starved of British humour, but it was hilarious!

I then went on youtube and watched the second series!

Patricia Hodge's character is a bit like my mum and all her sisters rolled into one!

Oh and its got Tom Ellis in it....never seen him before...what have I been MISSING!!!??? Grin

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 02/02/2011 12:07

I'm with rupaul (never thought I'd say that Grin). DH and I remain baffled by the current craze for her and the programme. She seems very nice so I don't begrudge her the success, but jeezorama the show is tired, weak and tragic.

Still, sense of humour is one of those very personal things innit. But from people's comments on here, I get the feeling there is a warm reception for her because she is Naice. None of that ghastly shouting, swearing, hitting etc. All the things I love Grin

noddyholder · 02/02/2011 12:09

I too agree with rupaul. I wouldn't know where to start with outnumbered. It is just more of the same hideous little kids with boden jumpers and too many after school activities

KikiJane · 02/02/2011 12:16

God, I accidentally watched a couple of episodes of the first series and it was awful. Totally unfunny. I really don't get why she's being raved about all over the place.

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 12:16

Grin @ noddy

TanteRose - if you like him in Miranda, you should see him in Merlin

In fact, the amount of eye candy in Merlin is worthy of note.

taffetasplat · 02/02/2011 12:17

and Debs I agree about that psychiatrist ep - I was in tears

TanteRose · 02/02/2011 12:17

oohh, taffeta, thanks! we get Merlin here on cable...

katsh · 02/02/2011 12:22

Hated it at first - find it very funny now. Such Fun has got to be the most useful sitcom catchphrase we've come across in a while. Gets used in all sorts of inappropriate situations in this household now Grin

TanteRose · 02/02/2011 12:25

I was crying at the wedding planning scene - Tilly is talking about the drinks and nibbles...

Tilly: What about mini frittata?
Miranda: Oh is she coming? it'll be nice to see her again!
Tilly: no, mini FRITTATA, its a nibble...
Miranda: Oh I thought you meant a friend from school...
Tilly: No, you're thinking of Focaccia Pilkington
Miranda: Yes, you see it is confusing...

Grin

Another vote here for Tom Ellis Wink

FellatioNelson · 02/02/2011 12:26

If you don't laugh (even a bit) at Miranda then you are a cyborg with no human feeling.

TanteRose · 02/02/2011 12:27

you see, when I last lived in the UK (20 years ago) it was all Ab Fab, French and Saunders and Victoria Wood.

Miranda feels like coming home

runningrach · 02/02/2011 12:28

love miranda
don' like stevie
take or leave outnumbered (dislike precocious kids)
hate my family

i hate slapstick so shouldn't like miranda but somehow the silliness makes me laugh, it's uncomplicated.

isn't it nice that we `re ll different and there are shows for all of us?1

GrannyMo · 02/02/2011 12:28

Funny as the housekeeper in Not Going Out but cringingly bad in Miranda.

MIFLAW · 02/02/2011 12:35

I think Miranda Hart is a hilarious comedian trapped in a dog-shit script.

SNOWBall4girlz · 02/02/2011 12:37

I love her in not going out but can take or leave miranda :)

Has she done stand up? Seem to remember a clip she she was on and she was hilarious.

Now outnumbered love it ...it is like real life ..did you know a lot of the kids stuff is improvised?

MarniesMummy · 02/02/2011 12:43

I am a cyborg with no human feeling.

I'll be back!!Grin

woahthere · 02/02/2011 12:46

I LOVE Miranda, her show makes me cry with laughter, of course she is cringey and silly and slapstick. Im not old or prudey but just found her such a refreshing change from all the deadpan, edgy comedy thats about. Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr, all of those can keep their edgy comedy, making rape jokes and paedophile jokes and terrorist jokes...I find it quite lazy actually, it might be 'clever' but tis not funny, just a contest to see who can make you go 'ooh, thats a bit risky'. My family was good when it first came out but has been a bit over egged now.
How could you not laugh at the 'Wheres Wally' scene, or the bit where her skirt gets ripped off. If you dont like it then dont watch it!
