Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Last night ate poussin and drank Champagne

today
some cambozola and chorizo but was silly and got up at 6.15am with dd and then didn't eat until 11am, which is very discouraged on this diet
bacon and eggs, eventually
lunch was at 3pm, some salad, anchovies, chicken kebabs, cheese, chorizo, octopus, squid, prawns
then went to bed this afternoon for 2 hours blissful sleep and have only been up an hour so no idea what I will eat tonight, maybe a cheese omelette.

I think I've probably not eaten enough this weekend tbh and I know I MUST do some more exercise this week as I seem to have hit a plateau, very annoying. Will not weigh again until the morning we go away, which is the 11th as next we will be totm.

Have a good week everyone.

Busy w/e with Sports Day yesterday for DD1 and School Fete for DD2 and DS today. Burnt really badly yesterday - it was very windy and cloudy and I wore no sunscreen so my fault entirely. Lesson well and truly learnt.

Been to gym today but food has been rather too yummy all week. Bought loads of picnic stuff for yesterday so too many nice things to pick at in the fridge. Six weeks until we go away so need to improve on all fronts. Only have to bare my body to DH and the children though as we have a house with a pool.

Hope everyone has a good week and happiness abounds.

Prufrock · 29/06/2008 21:21

I now have beautifully perky but bright yellow norks. I smell - it's very difficult to adequstely wash when you can't get your chest wet, and my hair is greasy - dh tried to wash it for me on Friday night but he's never going to get a job as a salon junior. I am going to be exravegebt and book myslef in for bi-weekly wash and blow dry's for the next couple of weeks. I have now done a poo (you read the euphimism correctly www) and still feel ecstatic. and I managed to run the sponsored pre-school trike ride on Saturday without collapsing ro tearing my stitches. I am really missing exercise though.

Prufrock · 29/06/2008 21:27

L&S - I will preface this by saying that I mix fed dd from about 16 weeks (until 11 months) and that mixed feeding is a perfectly valid choice to make and I am definately not being judgy judgy, but you do know that your GP knows feck all about bf? It is highly unlikely that you are not producing enough milk, and 3 months is a recognised growth spurt time, and ds's wakefullness is almost definatly not due to hunger, but just to being interested in what's going on, and that if you want to perservere with exclusive bf you will be able to, and there are lots of people on the bf boards that can provide support and info for you to be able to go back to exclusive bf, if you really want to. And if you don't, then enjoy the opportunity to give your norks a break.

Saggers - do hope ds is recovering and has his clothes back.

WideWebWitch · 29/06/2008 22:30

lol at euphemism Pru, glad things have moved along! And oh that must be hard not being able to wash, when are you allowed to bath or shower?

Hi Sheik! Welcome! Do tell us about yourself (only if you want to and you don';t have to say anything too revealing or weight or anything)

Saggars, hope your ds is ok. Poor thing.

Yoyo, six weeks is PLENTY of time, what is your thing you most want to have achieved by that time? at not using sunscreen.

I had 3 cold sausages for supper, really didn't want anytihng else. And am now wide awake due to afternoon nap, gah!

unknownrebelbang · 29/06/2008 22:40

www, have you seen the "mental image of a mumsnetter" thread?

I want chocolate. Have had a pleasant weekend (although have eaten too much) the boys have been fab (well DS3 has been on camp, lol) so I can only assume I'm missing DH himself, rather than just his helping hands!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/06/2008 10:11

Hello sheik.

pru - sounds like your making a great recovery if your stitches are race-proof!

yoyo - ouch! I hope you're not too sore, have you slapped on some soothing aftersun cream?

Today, I am mostly wearing Touche Eclat! Archie occasionally doing a 5 hour stretch at night but the accumulative effect of broken sleep is kicking in. And it shows.

And all this b/feeding is making it increasingly hard to not eat everything in sight - DH unpacked shopping on Friday and couldn't believe that, among other fruits, I we get through 32 apples a week. So I'm eating tons of fruit for snacks BUT still want chocolate, crisps, biscuits etc. I need steely resolve!

Sunscreen & moisturisers yes. Flexitol YES . Gallons of water.

eemie · 30/06/2008 11:59

yoyo, have you tried aloe vera cream for the sunburn? It helped my nephew when he burned his feet (ouch).

Checking in with this thread has reminded me about putting sunscreen on face. Not so good on body cream or flexitol, will try harder.

Not especially healthy w/e but incredibly uplifting - two hugely contrasting concerts with different choirs.

Taking a few days off this week to focus on puppy training and on my Mum, who's staying over. So no excuses.

Dd has grade 1 piano and an open day at her new school as well. Excitement about move mixed with chagrin - no viewings or even enquiries on our house in over a week. The only people getting in touch are rival estate agents claiming they'd be able to sell it .

bamamama · 30/06/2008 12:31

Hello all, just checking in although bootcamping appears to have gone out of the window (minus sunscreen). I feel really quite sluggish so will start afresh tomorrow.

We had a lovely weekend away on the NSW coast which involved lots of fish and chips and wine. High on happiness but crap on food! Amongst the palm trees and the beach one of the most exciting things was the presence of a tv and the Dr Who Christmas Special! DH had to let me watch it, he know's about my David Tennant 'thing'.

Pru - glad to hear the norks are well - how long until you can get exercising again?

DoNB - I admire your steely resolve. We all know in this situation it would be cake all the way for me. Do you have apple trees at your place? May be an idea...

Saggars - hope your ds has recovered from his horrible experience.

L&S - I seem to remember ds going through a similar patch around the same age. I ended up being talked into starting weaning when he was just over 17 weeks. I now wonder if this is the reason he's a fussy eater (I know, not really that likely). Go with your instinct on this, you're a sensible person (as far as I can tell!) - try not to worry about it though.

Marina · 30/06/2008 13:10

marker down, back shortly

Bundle · 30/06/2008 13:16

feet a bit horned hoofy - sort this evening
went to bed at 11.30, will try harder this evening

2 beers last night

feeling pretty perky though

pru - am impressed by colour of your perky norks...and your gut motility

Cammelia · 30/06/2008 13:19

Hello, hello

What a weekend! I got lots of compliments on my hair at the Ball on Saturday. My hairdresser put it up and managed to make it look very sophisticated and even slightly sexy, which was quite an achievement as at my age you could so easily end up looking the full Pat Phoenix

Its a shame when in my head I'm Sienna Miller

Ate nice food and drank a few glasses of champagne.

Sunday? School fete, they had wonderful Thai food on offer and a Pimms tent so no escape there.

I promise to start re-bootcamping with a vengeance at the end of term ie. this Friday

..and dd is on the list of prizewinners at Speech Day so big Happiness Quotient

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/06/2008 13:54

bama - yes, we have an orchard but most of this years blossom was rained off so not much coming and what is doesn't look too healthy. I may be forced to make cider with it... The cherry trees are bare too.

suzywong · 30/06/2008 15:06

hello everyone

I CAN FEEL MY COLLAR BONES!!!!!!!!! I HAVE NO DOUBLE CHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVEN'T HAD BREAD FOR 4 WEEKS!!!!!!!!

Prufrock, I 'm very happy for you but not liking the sound of your greasy smelly yellow norks.
No offence.

foothesnoo · 30/06/2008 15:21

Hello all

Doing alright or was until last night when a tub of green and blacks white chocolate and raspberry ice cream was my downfall during the footy. Have more or less kicked the wine in the week habit but can't say I find it easy - particularly as work stress is high at the moment. I need to find another wind down mechanism and have failed to do so so far (and no, nit combing the children does not count, thanks to DH for that suggestion...)

Have spent ages today trying to rejig work calendar to enable my presence at various end of term activities (one of the few parenting loads it is hard to share with DH as he is a teacher). Now am desperately trying to find a holiday which NO we haven't booked yet (seemed to spend most of the weekend admitting to various people that we have nothing booked and resisting the urge to sceram when they told me they did theirs before CHRISTMAS ffs, so wonder there's noting left!) So if anyone can come and give me holiday advice on my thread....

And if that were not enough have spent the last two days with deadful PMT and then two hours of last night awake with hideous period pain. Moan over!

Looving teh sound of Nork's orchard, Pru's perkiness, Cam's ball, and www's cambazola

WideWebWitch · 30/06/2008 19:20

Hey all, thanks for kind words re breastfeeding. Pru, I think I'm going to press on for a bit and see how we go - though actually I'm not sure how much longer I can keep going, tbh. Am rivalling the I&N crowd for weightloss; doesn't seem to matter how many packets of nuts and loaves of bread and avocados and so forth I eat, it just keeps falling off in a rather alarming fashion. Now weigh less than I did when I was in my early 20s and am starting to look a bit gaunt ! And as we know, there's nowt more ageing than being fleshless in the face

Seriously, though, am finding it pretty exhausting. Would like to press on for another couple of weeks, but then I think I may start adding in some formula then, just to give my norks a break, as you say

suzy, my salutations to your collar bones .

Bundle, I had practically the self-same meal last night - mackerel and salad and deliciousness plus lots of new potatoes and a tomato salad. Yum. Tonight, spanish omelette and watching Andy Murray getting rinsed in the tennis.

LoveAndSqualor · 30/06/2008 19:50

erk, bad luck www. What are they up to? Strength and honour ...

WideWebWitch · 30/06/2008 19:57

Foofoo, sympathy, I could murder a glass of wine now but am resisting. Dd screamed from the minute I walked in although ds was ok this evening. It was because she didn't want to put her pyjamas on, gah. I don't know the answer to dealing with stress without it tbh, but I have done so (with one exception) for the past 6 weeks. Will go and look at your holiday thread in a minute if I can. Sympathy on the PMT, I'm about to go down that road, hell on earth.

Congrats Suzywong, sounds fab!

Cam, that sounds like such a lovely ball and I am sure you look very far from Pat Phoenix! Although I think she was quite a fox y'know. In her way and of her time but still vair attractive and knowing looking imo.

Bundle, glad you're feeling perky, sounds like lovely food.

Bama, wasn't the xmas special Dr Who great? I swoooooooned when he said "I am the Doctor. Iam 900 years old. I am going to save you" or whatever it was. That sounds like a lovely weekend.

Eemie, have a nice couple of days off and sympathy on the house viewings.

DofN, that sounds exhausting, I hope he sleeps a bit more soon

unknown, no, will go and look. Have some chocolate, dark is best.

Am a bad bootcamper, failing on so many counts. Lots of flexitol, walking and happiness, but doing badly on the rest. Must try harder. Will be back in later, am out for dinner in local pub, so doubt healthy supper on agenda either.

WWW, sympathy for the DS situation. Am loving the nork update, Pru. Cam, Pat Phoenix was fantastic, but I know what you mean about the slightly faded glamour. Not a look to aspire to, alas. Sienna is much overrated though, in terms of looks and acting ability. And well done to DD on her prize .

Yoyo, that sounds very painful. Have you put yoghurt on to take some heat out if it's really sore? I find many creams can irritate it. L and S, I am sure you have enough milk and I agree that most GPs just make it up about BF. I found bottles and powder a complete pain, so it was easier to whip out a boob than fanny around with all that junk, but it could be worth a go if you feel wrung out by it all. Sorry, don't mean to be preachy, it's just that many well meaning GPs and HVs sabotage successful feeding by suggesting topping up so your supply goes down and you end up stopping.

Hello everyone else, hope you are all well and happy. All is need is DH now then I can go pubwards....

Marina · 30/06/2008 21:28

Finally lurching in after busy day at work and huge traffic snarl-ups locally (air ambulance touching down on our nearest main road, masses of sirens etc )
Have been a bit of a norty camper this weekend due to expediency - ds' birthday party was fun but so all-consuming that I ended up scoffing pizza on one day and drinking wine in the evening on two, to recover
Also had some of those luscious midget Mars ice cream bars
But overall have done OKish...
Have ordered two frocks to audition in the sales and am back in saddle today with fruit for breakfast, fruit and chicken and salad for lunch and grilled turkey, plained baked pot and wilted spinach for dinner. Not quite enough water though (hoping tea counts)
WWW, we still have sarky boy angst here too
Pru, shall I mail YOU? Hope your iMac doesn't mind being contacted by googlemailers even if it has sent me and my ilk to e-Coventry. Glad to hear you and your fragrant yellow norks are progressing well
Am LOLing at Cam being even slightly like Pat Phoenix, when she knows very well she is more Catherine Deneuve. Well done to your dd Cam
We can see you Sheik, now that some of us are melting away like crazy (suzy, LAS) there is more room to spot the lurkers. Come into the light, child...
Chutney, personally I think that happiness should perch right at the top of WWW's hierarchy of need, so do not reproach yourself
Will check out your holiday thread foo
