Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • 40 min hike + twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream no.
  • Use hand cream lax.
  • Go to bed early, midnightish.
  • Eat healthily. Not too bad today.
  • Be happy. Is it really only Tuesday?

Having visited my local secondary (DS3 was performing in a dance thing ), for the first time ever I have absolutely no doubt we made the right choice to ship them elsewhere.

The school itself is fine, a lovely newbuild with a wonderful headteacher and motivated staff who have done wonders with the place. Unfortunately it's also where both me and DH grew up and everyone knows the jobs we do and there is a sizeable number of folk who we've had contact with over the years, workwise. (DH and I both attended when it was a sink school). It's generally not been a problem, but tonight when I saw one guy in particular, I just knew that we were right to send the boys elsewhere. My heart was in my mouth all evening in case this man said/did something, I couldn't live with that day in, day out, wondering if any incident might be acted upon if my boys attended this school, even though they do have friends who attend and are doing well. Yes, no doubt DS1's current school has offenders' children attending (DH has even dealt with the pupils themselves occasionally) but the difference is the vast majority don't know who/what DH is/does - the exact opposite to this school. Fine is a "nice" area, bl**dy terrifying in a crime-ridden area.

Apologies for what I'm sure sounds like melodramatics.

Marina - sounds like our fellow 10yys are sorting you out! How lovely.

Cloche hat colour match here! Scroll down a bit....

Prufrock · 01/07/2008 22:10

Secret with fascinator is to backcomb hair under where comb will go, smooth an un-backcombed bit over the top, spray heavily with elnett (inferior hairsprays just do not do it). Spray comb as well, attach in in tho wrong direction and fold back (iyswim) and then spray whole lot again.

My calf muscles are permanently stretched by years of high heels bundle. On the rare occasions I walk/stand in flats my legs ache. Though they are Ok with no shoes on at all.

Moonshine - I've had 30G (going up to M when bf) norks for 15 years,I'm used to people not looking me in the eye.

Marina · 01/07/2008 22:11

Oh ureb, that kind of situation must be very hard to live with day in, day out. Glad you feel you did the right thing about the children's schooling

Marina · 01/07/2008 22:15

Now you make it sound very straightforward pru, but frankly, me,a tiny gadget and a can of Elnett is a short ride in a fast machine to A & E . I would need either you or my sister to accompany me at all times.
LOVE the pianola music and those adorable hats moonshine
Dress pattern too modern I think. If I had found a wrap dress more tea-dress like in style I'd have been exceedingly tempted. That green one is so pretty

Guess who's going to Fiji on Friday?

So, happiness is good. EXTREME panic about state of body with 2 days before departure is bad.

I got the holiday booked yesterday and after having paid realised that the travel agent had cocked up misunderstood the immigration procedures for both Fiji and Australia (DD's passport expires in under 3 months) and that if we took the holiday we wouldn't be let into either Fiji or back into Australia (stress count: 3 huge glasses of wine). So it was either lose the money (and I did go a bit faint when I paid, it was slightly more than I'd hoped for) or risk living at an airport for 18 years, in limbo etc etc.

After much panic and phonecalls we finally got the Fijian AND Australian Immigration departments to give us special permission to enter both Fiji and Australia (wine count: quite a few more, coupled with much hyperventilation and tantrums at the prospect of losing both the holiday and cash).

So, having made the simple task of booking a holiday a highly calorific and stressful experience, I now have to get beach ready in 2 days [looks down in despair at gut and winter skin].

In a knee-jerk reaction I got DD and I into the hairdresser (oh, DP isn't coming because he's a git) yesterday, so we have good hair. Now I need to do something about my feet, pasty body and buy a bikini that I can fit my backside into. And a couple of sarongs.

I've already bought the insect repellent, 3 types of sunscreen and some posh French water spritzer in a can for the flight. I'll have an hour and a half to speed shop when DD does her writing camp this morning [brain whirrs at speed of light]. Not sure where I'll get holiday stuff from, it's the middle of winter.

And I have to get travel insurance, but I have a feeling that I can't buy it in Australia because I'm not resident and will have to go via the UK, but I'm not there either. [Stress]

Will be back to post on everybody else's progress shortly. [removes 2 month old varnish from toes]

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/07/2008 23:25

Sadly I don't have the time to join the great Hat debate.

Have eaten croissant, cheese salad, cream crackers, 2 shortbread biscuts, apples, carrots, peach, lasagne, green stuff, half a tube of Pringles and another apple. Lots of water. No coffee. Half a glass of homemade elderflower champagne - it is superb!

Used sunscreen but have a small mildly burnt patch on one arm ffs. Moisturiser, hand cream, Flexitol, body scrub & tanning lotion done. Will be off to bed shortly.

Tomorrow I am taking 60 children and about 40 adults on the pre-school summer trip. Wish me luck!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/07/2008 23:27

arfishy. Link to resort please. Good luck with the insurance thing.

bamamama · 02/07/2008 01:49

Right, I realise it is nobodys fault here but I've just found out that I can get onto the internet on my laptop in the library. I've just caught up on the thread and done some more pointless surfing and I still have 4000 words to write by Friday.

New plan - to priotise properly and actually achieve what I want to achieve and stop behaving like an actual student!

Mind you - fab dress Marina, really lovely.

Arfishy, very of your trip. A weekend near Batemans Bay just wasn't the same...

WWW - tsk but hope you enjoyed your Pinot!

Bootcamping a bit so so here. Ah well.

Now, I'm logging off and going to do some work!!

bamamama · 02/07/2008 01:50

Oh, and best of luck DoNB - you're far braver than me!

feetheart · 02/07/2008 07:12

Right, I really need to get back on the wagon again (and again, and again )
I have no major holidays to work towards but I have weight creeping on and am too good at ignoring it and heading for the biscuit barrel/fridge/sweetie shop at the first hint of stress/happiness/boredom/tiredness/etc. This MUST STOP or I will weigh the same as DH and I only did that when pregnant.

Am enjoying the Great Hat debate though have nothing helpful to add as am 5'10" and hats make me look like a giantess! Also haven't been to a hat-required Do in about 20 years.

L&S - haven't read what you have said in previous threads so ignore if I have got it wrong but agree with others that GPs (and sadly lots of HVs) know feck all about bf. I bf both of mine and NOTHING made a difference to DS sleeping through (though I clung to every milestone in the hope that it would) - weaning (and I did it early in great hope), 2 meals a day, 3 meals a day, formula last feed before bed, crawling, walking (which he did at 10mths ). NOTHING changed how often he woke. He eventually did sleep through when he was ready. Don't let anyone pressure you into trying something just because they say so, do what YOU want to do.

Right, need to go and start the day.

Hello everybody, I'm back and about the same weight as I was this time last year (at 4months pg) and have considerably more eye baggage (but the little terror
darling ds is usually sleeping through now) I'm bfing less but still eating calorific 'newmum' portions. And then there's the wine.....

I neeeed to get back on track. Help!

Batters, I think its lovely coat-I know it was a while since we met but I think it will suit you a lot

Marina-ditto your dress

Now I'm going to scan the thread and find out the mysteries of the yellow breast ??? and other such things....

Mine yellow norks lizzer - they have recently been made significantly smaller and more pert, but are covered in yellow bruises, especially (TMI ALERT) where they cut my nipples off and sewed them back on.

Well it's black batters! Tbh I think the texture might not be flattering on anybody over a size 10 -quilting on non stick insects always make me think Michelin Man. But the tailored shape and shoulders are nice.

arfishy, we want holiday porn please.

Goodluck duch. I am so very relieved that i have only until October to go as chair - I can't think what I'll do with my time when I have ds at school and no pre-school crap to deal with.

WideWebWitch · 02/07/2008 10:47

Arfy and yes, show us the resort!

batters, reckon you could get away with something more colourful now you are svelte.
Sympathy x 1m on the tutor strops, really know how wearing it can be.

I feel ok ish this am but woke loads in night, drank water and feel horrendously guilty about the SUGAR in the wine today. Realise I have, as India says "traded weight loss for a night in with a bottle of white" durr. Never mind, kept telling myself I can't do anythign about it now and I have was doing v well generally and needed something last night as was feeling, dunno, pmt ish and irritated at the sheer tedium of it all.

Marina, can you get shop persn in eg John Lewis to show you how to do fascinator?

Unknown, glad you made right school choice
Had mackeral pate (made it myself with mackeral, aoil and grated horseradish) for breakfast and nice as it was, it wasn't what I wanted first thing.

This week is SLOW SLOW SLOW isn't it? And it doesn't look like I'm the only one finding it so. Can't believe it's only bloody WEdnesday.

stoppit pru
Hello Lizzer, good to see you ! Tarry awhile and eat muffins with our Famous Melting Women
Batters, pru sounds like she knows her stuff, but I am assuming that the crepe is matt. I think the coat is gorgeous, I'd treat myself in your shoes . Great news that your friend's dd is nearing the finishing line of her treatment at last
Hope the pre-school trip goes with a swing DoNB and at arfishy's wonderful holiday plans
Dd confided to me that Resident Minx in her class has been discussing my fat tummy and "pink hair" with her. Had visceral hate moment (I suspect her passive-aggressive mum of Fundamentalist Surrendered Wife tendencies, which is fine so long as you don't imbue your child with your highly dubious judgmental attitudes as well), especially after I had been feeling, if not a million dollars, then fairly 50 guineas about my new dress
So have glumly power-walked and been very self-conscious of fatness today and at four year olds picking over their parents' appearance

Wow - less than 24hrs since I last popped in and a gazillion new posts. Ladies, I salute you.

Bundle, I know that Scholl place on upper st; it looks like just the sort of thing - brisk, business like, almost - dare I say it - medical - and I am most heartened by your words on the lack of judgment. I fear my feet would besmirch the instruments of a more frou-frou establishment. I will make an appt forthwith for nuclear blitzing of the offending heels, then attempt to maintain equilibrium in the privacy of my own bathroom. I thank you

Pru, reeling at the thought of your nipples! Fnar fnar ... Seriously though, yowzer. How's the pain? Yellow must be good really, I'm guessing, as that's the colour of fading bruises?

On the headgear front, despite the fact that I Don't Do it - a friend of mine has a 'fascinator' just like the one Bundle linked to and it does look fab. And Marina, to the Resident Minx and Mrs Resident Minx. Really, pay it no mind (easier said than done, I know). Your dress is glorious and clearly so are you. I sense another moment.

Good day today, so far, though my afternoon stymied somewhat by rain - how can I watch Wimbledon if it's not on the TV? But have done some splendid relaxing, eaten much healthy food and am reading an excellent Penelope Lively novel, which is making me want to be an archaeologist.
