Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

SheikYerbouti · 03/07/2008 15:19

I need wise words of wisdom from everyone. I have been watching what I eat and drink since mid-May(ish) and whilst I could never claim to be dieting I have cut down on loads of foods as well as portion sizes. I also have my one-to-one with the trainer every week, walk daily, cycle and go to the gym twice a week at least. My clothes fit me better and I feel fitter and healthier. So far so good. Got weighed in the gym today and have lost a total of 4lbs!!!! AArgh. I just do not understand how I could have made so many changes and not seen a more significant weight loss. I know the muscle/fat argument but it doesn't fit somehow. I have done this before and lost a fair amount so why not now? Please let it not be age related adgain. Whilst I am pleased at all the positive things it is rather dispiriting to be putting huge efforts into something and not seeing the proof on the scales. Fed up. Going to see her tomorrow to have some sort of body fat test and get measured. Really looking forward to that.

Sorry for what amounts to a very long moan. I need to cheer up.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/07/2008 17:08

yoyo - I'm going to say that yes I think it probably is age related. Do you have much to lose? You sounds much like me activity wise and weight loss too, in the same time frame. My trousers fit sooo much better and I would say that I look 7lbs lighter not 4. I'm going to redo my body fat thingy too. It was 35% last time!

Norks - running shoes calling you yet?

Batters - nice to be propositioned

Yoyo, I can only offer sympathy and read others' views with interest. I have to say your sort of experience is my worst nightmare. I am ashamed to say that one of the reasons I know I have not addressed my weight problem sooner is that I have been terrified that whatever I do...I'll still be fat.
I still maintain you are doing ever so well though, you need to hear that . And muscle does weigh more than fat so it is a factor.
Well I can report that prufrock was in fab form and looking extremely svelte (but then I always thought she did!). No sign of yellow bits poking out of smart linen dress, pleasingly
I will leave it to her to recount the gory details of her successful appt with her surgeon!

Hopray, it's 'feels like Friday already' afternoon for me as have done all my hours at work this week (although had to do another tortuous photo session today after photographer 1 lost the original ones . He tried to make me take my cardi off to show my sleeveless arms and I resolutely and diva-rishly refused!).

Yoyo - how often I have been down that same road as you, although tbh I usually am 'good' for ages and put on weight. Do you weigh yourself at different times of the day as your 'morning' weight is several pounds less than your weight later in the day? You could be retaining quite a few pounds of water because of too much salt or a carb-heavy diet? I've heard dandelion tea helps (although sounds revolting!). Are you being totally truthful/non-amnesiac about how much you eat ie it may be healthy but is it calorific (eg things like nuts). Eating mouthfuls here and there which you do unconsciously? Too many lattes or similar drinks? Of course, none of these may be the cause. Don't forget also, weightloss is far from linear. I found that even on an extreme diet like the Cambridge, lots of people lose nothing for 2 weeks or so and then lose quite a bit in one fell swoop. Sadly I think when you are older you body also learns to adapt more to lower calories but this is a personal theory. But it is going in the right direction and sounds like physically it is making loads of difference!

or rather not that much at the careless thing that children say. My lovely ds shouted out in a public loo recently 'mummy you've got a fat hairy tummy'. Which was nice. .

I have no food in the house so am dreading dh coming home and 'suggesting' a takeaway tonight (v bad planning).

But we are finally having our new shower fitted tomorrow and my mood remains buoyant despite relentless weight gain and lack of gym activity. Am determined to go back on Saturday.

moonshine · 03/07/2008 18:23

(Oh and remembers to wolf whistle at Batters' new found sexy self, Prufrock's norks and the other Nork's size 12 legs.)

Prufrock · 03/07/2008 19:29

Well done duch.

Thank you marina. I am pleased to report in kind that Marina's pink hair is very subtle and fetching. And she drank Earl Grey without sugar, as opposed to my venti latte and caramel slice! I have really got out of the habit of eating breakfast lunch and dinner over the past week so am snacking on terrible foods at bad times of day.

I have now finished a proper examination of my norks sans duct tape and they really are rather lovely. I still have stitches and steri-strips (which will come off next week), but they do stay up by themselves - for the first time since I was 17 I might be able to pass the pencil test - and this from someone who used to be able to hold a beer bottle in place underneath her boob (I can't quite remember what led me to see if I could do that, nor do I really want to, but I could do it). I have even tried on a strappy, triangle top dress that my 20 year old sis gave me form her wardrobe and I can actually go out in it (well I will be able to when I'm allowed to take off my support bra)

WideWebWitch · 03/07/2008 19:52

Fab news on the norks Pru.

Moonshine, what were the photos for? And at your week being over. Although the rest of mine is a piece of pss so I really can't moan!

Yoyo, agree about checking you're eating enough as not enough will make you go into starvation mode and agree with the water thing, did you read my article from the old thread? Will see if I can find it if you want me to. Sympathy, I havne't lost anytigng for 2 weeks either and think it MUST be wine in my case as I have stuck to I&N in every other way.

Sheik, how are you feeling?

Bama, that sounds like a lovely evening though! It didn't occur to me to have salad made entirely of spinach leaves until India and NEris AND I had it in a restaurant recently and thought, ooer, it's nice, I much prefer it to rocket and other bitter salad leaves.

We had lovely rare roast beef tonight with salad and horseradish.

DD threw an almighty strop this evening, lovely. Didn't phase me, the 4yo ones I can handle! Poor love was FURIOUS because she wouldn't have a bath so I manhandled her in and washed her then took her out again. I think it's the INJUSTICE and sheer ignominy of it that got to her. HEy, she wore herself out though, so there's a bright side!

Yoyo, pre-accidental pregancy and unexpected having of subsequent child, I saw a personal trainer for a bit. Wasn't particularly overweight, but had just done that slow putting on of a pound here, a pound there, and wanted to stop the slide. She did all that fat measuring business on me when I started and we were both quite shocked to discover that my body fat ratio (or whatever the blardy hell it's called - you know what I mean) was really very high. Trained with her once a week for about six months, and I stayed almost bang on exactly the same weight - but not only had my body shape changed (for the better, you understand ) but my fat had absolutely plummeted. So what I'm saying is ... I know how hard it is to ignore scales, because they're such an easy accessible measure, but if you can, do - look in the mirror, and go by that. Sounds like you've done really well, and you should congratulate yourself.

Good day here today - DS has mainly slept, so I've done much achieving - cleaning, tidying, starting a bit of work I need to do. Am actually in the office tomorrow for the day, and am, I must confess, hugely overexcited about a whole day without babies or baby-related conversations . Plus a couple of glasses of wine in the pub with lovely colleagues at the end of it.

ooh and batters I saw that 10yy too! Was inspired to buy TWO tubes of sunblock in boots today. The sun damage was horrifying. And I noticed a new wrinkle in the unreasonably unflattering mirror in M&S today . AND a very fetching gray hair sticking straight up out of the middle of my parting in that irritating way that they do

LoveAndSqualor · 03/07/2008 20:07

oh and Pru that is great news on the norks, and duchess, plaudits on the size 12s!

LoveAndSqualor · 03/07/2008 20:09

and bama, sounds like a great night. Right, really am off to make dinner now.

moonshine · 03/07/2008 20:55

WWW - no exciting reason. It's perhaps to go into (trade) mag or on email to promote something (cringe).

Dh is out to get me a (whisper) chicken kebab (not much choice round here) to go with my (barely moves lips) glass of wine....am off to stand in the naughty corner.

WideWebWitch · 03/07/2008 21:00

Hey Moonshine, I'm in a glass house on the wine front so am hardly going to throw stones! Although it was only the one transgression this week for me.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 03/07/2008 21:01

Oh right re the pictures, so like David Brent on the front of "Inside Paper" then?

OP posts:
moonshine · 03/07/2008 22:08

(Double cringe). I don't remember that bit but sounds about right. The things you do to earn a crust, eh...(clinks glass but hides chocolate bar wrapper under the sofa cushion)

moonshine · 03/07/2008 22:11

Oh and Batters is it you who mentioned Ghost? I have just been on their website and spent some money when I promised I would not buy any more clothes until autumn (refills wine glass and takes a huge gulp).

unknownrebelbang · 03/07/2008 22:30

I'm making huge assumptions, www, and yes I know I shouldn't, but I'd be surprised if I was wrong. I went through a phase a couple of years ago when I was...erm...temperamental in the office when I had pmt for about three months, but it did also clash with a time when there was a lot of other stuff going on both at home and work. I've not knowingly shown signs other than that (different story at home of course!)

  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • just the twister today.
  • Lots of water/weak tea, need another drink.
  • Apply body cream no.
  • Use hand cream yes.
  • Go to bed early, midnightish.
  • Eat healthily. yes.
  • Be happy. TFI Friday tomorrow!

My little darlinks are being monsters. Still, it's kept 'em quiet tonight writing letters of apologies .

DS1 missed his school bus, so I ended up taking him to school and drying my hair at work, grrr.

DS2 is just ready to move on, and along with the rest of the class, getting too big for his boots (always happens - small close-knit primary - they outgrow it).

Considered opinion on DS3 is that he is allowing himself to be led by another lad in class (he can get himself into enough trouble, ffs). At the end of the day, he is responsible for his own actions - and if he's daft enough to let this lad make the bullets for him to fire....

On the up...how does one dress at a "Formal Assembly" attended by Lord Coe?? (when DH - if he gets there - will be in blardy uniform!) rofl
