Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Evenin' All.

WWW - blast, forgot to actually say that someone has a mental image of a slender Nigella when they see your name, hehe. The thread's so long now, lol, but this was one of the first posts.

You/your norks sound delightful, pru!

L&S/Duchesse, please do try to look after yourselves as well as your darling boys.

How's DS, Saggars?

Welcome Sheik.

Well done Camm's DD.

Prufrock · 30/06/2008 21:52

Well I know have shiny, clean, perfectly straightened hair, and managed a decent shower from waist down and flanneling above, so feel significantly better. And norks are becoming slightly more saggy - which is actually a good thing - they were freakily teenagerish in their firmness for a couple of days. They are still yellow though.

I'm coming into town Thursday afternoon to have dressings removed - don't suppose any londoners are up for after work drinks?

marina - got it and replied. Please let me know if you don't get my response so I can throw hugo out of the window. well, actually I would have to ask dh to do it as I can't lift anything yet!

L&S, are you drinking? Alcohol and bf is a subject close to my heart as it was how I found mumsnet 6 years ago. It would have the double benefit of adding calories, and knocking you out so that you can get to sleep straight after a feed!

unknownrebelbang · 30/06/2008 21:59
  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • 2 x 2 mile hikes + twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea. Not enough today.
  • Apply body cream no.
  • Use hand cream lax.
  • Go to bed early, midnightish, waken up by DH at two-ish.
  • Eat healthily. Was sooo sluggish after yesterday that I've not eaten much today. (Yesterday I ended up with a bowl of melted cooking chocolate, raisins and rice crispies .)
  • Be happy. Oh yes. I'm thrilled that DH is back, and not just because of the "thank fk you're home, sort the boys out" scenario, lol, as the boys have been great over the weekend. He's bought me a lovely pearl necklace too.

Teach has won the regional award.

We've been to a meeting about DS2's move to secondary in September this evening, eek, and we managed to get to see the big photo of DS1 outside the Head's office. Was reminded all over again why we like the school, and DS2 seemed quite excited at the prospect although a bit miffed that he's the only one from his primary in his form (only 8 in an intake of 180ish anyway).

Marina · 30/06/2008 22:03

Pru Can't do after work drinks but have a generous 45 min slot around 4pm if you are heading back to the station (LS not KX)
Sorry this week is vile, all our student assistants have fecked back off to Transylvania or wherever two weeks early...

yoyo · 30/06/2008 23:21

Thanks for all the concern and advice with my horrible sunburn. Lashings of aftersun and my Dr Weil face serum seem to have done the trick. And some spray water stuff that I bought for some journey or other and managed to lose!

Lots of water and moisturiser of course (also long sleeves and trousers). Been to gym and enjoyed my session and walked the school run a couple of times. Had a pleasant few hours in Reading with DH - laughed a lot and really enjoyed each other's company. Also, joy of joys, tried on lots of sales stuff and it fitted or was too big (although not so big that a smaller size would have done). Left empty handed but rather pleased.

Pru - glad norks are settling down.
L&S - don't know what to suggest as I never had the huge weight loss that some people have whilst BF. I do know that mixed feeding can work really well though if that is what you choose to do.
Saggars - how is DS?

Bed beckons.

LoveAndSqualor · 01/07/2008 11:59

ooh yoyo, v bad luck with sunburn. I'm a martyr to it (pale as the driven northern snow). I find aloe vera gel the best thing.

thanks again for bf advice. Pru, I am drinking , though tbh a trifle guiltily (people a bit sniffy about it). do you think it's ok to do?

Am actually going to go and ask on the bf boards for a bit of advice as I'm not sure what else I can be doing. yesterday, for eg, I ate peanut butter on wholegrain toast x4, a banana, an apple, a chunky kitkat, a big ham and cheese and salad baguette, a slice of cake, two glasses of wine (in the afternoon, with friend who had just upped and left her job ), a bag of pistachios, a massive salad nicoise with potatoes and three slices of bread, another banana and some ice cream. too much crap in their, admittedly, but plenty of food I think?

Sorry, this is a bit of a daft (not to say irritating, as my sister keeps pointing out ) problem to be having, I realise. Think the thing is that I'm having real difficulty shifting my mindset out of years of thinking about food in the opposite direction.

My word, it's HOT in London. About to go to the park so DS can splash in the paddling pool. Sunscreen at the ready!

ureb, wow at necklace. www, slender nigella (ie LOTS of long dark hair) pretty much bang on how I pictured you prior to the blonde bombshell (though now of course I picture you as a blonde bombshell )

Have great days, everyone.

LoveAndSqualor · 01/07/2008 12:01

ps marina, forget exactly where you are in london, but was one of your snarl-ups the essex road one? DS and I got caught in that - stuck on the bus for ages. Got off and walked in the end, and the whole road was sealed off with police and ambulances and whatnot.

Prufrock · 01/07/2008 12:24

it's perfectly Ok - see here and here. But you are being a little irritating in being able to eat so much and still lose weight

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2008 17:36

Hello

3 fried sausages
some chorizo and cambozola
bacon and eggs
not enough water as am at home, harder here to remember
sunscreen
No idea what we're eating tonight.

It was dd's day for visiting school for 2 hours this pm and poor love is exhausted as a result. At least I was able to work from home to collect her from nursery and take her
to school.

My mission for next year is to achieve some work/life balance. I am missing all this stuff, I don't know anyone at the school (although correspond with office via email so they know me a bit!), don't have much slack for school events etc, didn't even know how to find ds's classroom this afternoon to speak to his teacher. Mind you I suppose I don't ever need to go there, at his age they just appear in the playground. Anyway, once ds took me there teacher said he thinks ds could pass the 11+ if he makes an effort. So that's potentially good. If only I can get the swine to make an effort!

Whinge whinge moan moan. thanks for listening.

I've been phoned by someone big on our school committee and asked to be Class Rep for next year

This means some serious bootcamping over the summer holidays as all the committee women at our school are ultra skinny boden women

Yesterday swam and low-impact aerobics.

Today, swam.

Food? Yes

Last Friday, in prep for the Ball I had a brilliant Clarins facial, which was like a mini facelift, and manicure and pedicure so have a psychological head start.

Marina always says things that make you want to marry her.

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2008 20:03

Marina does indeed say things like that Cam.

tonight we had a large grilled mushroom each with melted blue cheese, a mini cheese and tarragon omelette and spinach

There was a bottle of Champagne in the fridge with 2 glasses exactly left in it so we had that with our supper. There is also cold unopened Pinot Grigo and I'm tempted tbh, it's felt like a looooong day, I cannot believe it's only Tuesday.

Marina · 01/07/2008 20:06

Ouch yoyo, missed your awful sunburn angst, I hope it is a bit less painful today
I missed a piece on my back about the size of the palm of my hand two summers ago in Devon and it was terribly painful for a couple of days
L&S, it's not a problem I've ever had (I retained and indeed hoarded blubber throughout my b/f career) but I do want you to know, from the heart of my bottom, that even the porkiest of boot campers feels for you and hopes you are feeling less gaunt soon, honest. Avocado! Lamb! Good icecream! Bananas! We are not Essex Road, we are the Nouveau Badlands of London following the awful stabbings in Sidcup and Lee
WWW, I hope you can nail the work/life thing next year. You graft like a Stakhanovite for your family, and regularly put up with the sort of rubbish that has me wibbling all the way to the union. You gave already, as they say.
Goodish day for me today. Two lots of walking, healthy lunch, plenty of water, and and and I have a dress for That Wedding.
here. It looks quite nice! I am Over the Moon! It is gorge.
It and my Spanx and me will head off into town to try and sort out some better nork retention at Branormous, and any tips for headgear (oh yes, it is one of those weddings alack and alas) gratefully received.
Can I get away with olive green smart wedge espadrilles...maybe not. Have inoffensive and not crippling plain black slingbacks.
I'll give the dress a test drive when meeting friends for drinkies celery and water on Friday.
My new Goal is to be able to go ape on size 14 at Phase Eight, I've decided

LoveAndSqualor · 01/07/2008 20:07

Pru - thanks loads for links. And yes, agreed - it's is kind of irritating, isn't it - especially when I'm moaning on about it too . Not what I was expecting, I can tell you. Picture my sunken cheeks and hollow eyes to offset the annoyingness

Cam, lol at 'food? yes'

Off to eat gnocchi and watch more tennis.

Marina · 01/07/2008 20:08

Awwww but it's all true, my friends, I would not say it otherwise

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2008 20:17

Hey Marina, I have the green shrug thing on the right, that goes with that dress, the Gemstone trim shrug, ref 400762710, in exactly that colour, would you like to borrow it? You're most welcome to. The dress is FAB, really lovely. Bet you're pleased to have found something, well done!

I am drinking a large glass of pinot grigo Fuck it, fk it I say.

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2008 20:19

MUST click away from that site, must not spend money until am thinner! Lovely stuff, I do like Phase eight. Remember being stopped in a nightclub (that long ago!) in the 90s and being asked where I got the velvet patchwork waistcoat I was wearing and it was Phase 8

Marina · 01/07/2008 20:20

Oh Gods WWW I love you (even more than I did before, of course). It is long gone from their website and would be perfect. Thank you so much XXX

LoveAndSqualor · 01/07/2008 20:20

ooh, marina - splendid dress. Splendid! I see no problem with espadrilles, given the season. I'd go for them over slingbacks. Am crappety-crap at headgear, so will wait for wiser, er, heads to advise on that one.

and plaudits on describing www as a staknhanovite, and www, can I just add a resounding hear hear to the work-life balance cheerleading.

ooh and I have a goal, and it is foot-related. My heels are now permanently dirty from wearing sandals in london - I can't get the grime out ! This is truly horrifying. Something Must Be Done. Can anyone advise on pedicures? Has anyone ever had one ? Do they work? Do they do your heels? Am I scarred for ever? Oh, the shame.

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2008 20:29

Marvellous Marina, I will give it to you when I see you

L&S, oh my, dirty heels? No idea! Soak in erm bleach?

Bundle · 01/07/2008 20:48

marina, is it really compulsory headgear? what about a lovely big flowery clip? monsoon had some fabby ones a while back.

www heck this week is slow so glug that pinot! (am on the beer..plus lovely thin flash fried steaks with heaps salad, avocado, beef tomatoes, onions with balsamic..actually might just go and grab another piece of haloumi..)

Bundle · 01/07/2008 20:49

L&S I had a pedicure at a Scholl shop (upper st islington) and it was lovely. they do a lot of shaving and grinding of horned hoof and don't judge

Marina · 01/07/2008 20:59

L&S, you need some of these, one of these and some of this
I wear sandals and religiously washing and sanding my feet at night, popping on some flexitol and socks (mmm, sexy), then filing again after shower, does work. Promise!
Am thinking fascinator too bundy, but am unconvinced as yet
We had grilled chilli chicken and pad thai tonight (I skipped the pad bit of the thai, which was...interesting). Your steak sounds delish

Marina · 01/07/2008 21:00

I know it will be headgear
I had to Put My Foot Down re ds being tricked out in a miniature morning suit ffs

Bundle · 01/07/2008 21:25

lol @ morning suit

just did another bit of steak (they really are thin and teeny ) with balsamic, sesame seeds and somethign called oncu, a turkish pomegranate molasses type thing

now for some raspberries and knitting
