WWW's 10 year younger thread: the devil's own drivel - all welcome

Hello everyone, anyone is welcome to join.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

However, some of us (me and Suzywong) are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are doing the having-four-children-and-livestock-to-manage. LoveandSqualor is trying to put on weight

Anyway, we do a lot of chatting about life and everything on this thread but amongst it all we often post how we're feeling and what we ate and it acts as a conscience. Some of the time

Happy shiny new week everyone.

Marina, I don't blame you for drinking last night, really, it's been a tough week hey? I will be thinking of you and your dad tomorrow and crossing everything. lol at your mum but well done on 12000 steps even if they weren't aerobic!

Sobernow lol at your dds. Hope the wine is nice if you do go for it.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/06/2008 21:49

Thread title is most apt

Will be thinking of your dad Marina.

I forgot to relay a gym related incident today. Picture this; dh trotting along on the treadmill, headphones stop working so he trys to sort them out. In doing so he stops running (can't multitask and forgets he's not road running) and shoots off the back of the machine. Cue much raucous laughter from usually snotty onlookers. He was most embarrassed and slunk off to the steam room. Wish I'd been there. Bless!

hi all. marina, hope your dad has a good week.

Can't post much, but just want to say firstly, I am PISSED off with dh. Not for anything much, just for being annoying! Secondly, it's ds1's birthday now - my baby is 7!

tortoiseSHELL · 16/06/2008 00:05

Marina - I just saw on another thread that your dad is having the triple bypass tomorrow - I totally hadn't clocked that - will be thinking of him and you tomorrow! xxxxx

hello all, much lol and computer sabotaging dh's. I think my dh is secretly pleased I found MN, means he can surf the football sites as much as he wants.

Pretty good bootcamping weekend for me - no booze although I would have sold my granny for a vodka martini yesterday. Had some banana bread instead, not quite the same.

However, on to this week. Have already had a raspberry and coconut muffin but have decided that I am not going to feel guilty about it as what is the point! Will have extra water as penance.

Well done on lots of weight lost (what is the total weight loss for the thread??) (and did we ever establish how many bootcamp children there were?) and try not to kill annoying dh's (t/shell that means you) or laugh too much at them (Saggars)

Best of luck to your dad Marina - am thinking of you. Also much lol at puzzled moron.

Here's hoping Monday morning is kind to you all..

Oh, I was waiting for this thread. I gained almost 4 pounds in hospital and decided to start caring when this week's thread started. The less said about my efforts last week the better.

Marina, thinking of you today. Good luck to your dad. xx

Saggar, hilarious about your dh! That's something I would do. The first spinning class I did I had a similar problem. Didn't fall off the bike though, phew.

Anniemac, hope the hangover isn't too bad. I always found red wine the worst for that.

tortoiseSHELL, happy birthday to the boy! 7's a big age.

bamamama, ha at banana bread for vodka substitution.

My dh is not annoying me, but that's possibly because he's in NY this week. My mother is still here and still helping out and is fantastic, but it will be nice to have the house back to ourselves in a week or so. Until the mil arrives a week after that (ack!). And of course, JJjr is here and is going to do schoolwork today to keep his brain from running out of his ears. I suppose I should do something productive too.

JJ · 16/06/2008 08:28

Oops, cross posted! Hi batters and good luck to your dd at sports day.

tortoiseSHELL · 16/06/2008 09:34

Children dispatched to school - presents opened (ds1 was good value this year - lots of 'I love it, thank you SO much' - we got him Pirates of the Caribbean Megabloks, plus a playmobil pirate island thing, which he LOVED. Then this evening we, at his request, are taking him out for a curry with his best friend.

lol at your dh, saggar - sounds v funny!

Hope you enjoy sports day batters.

www - lol at 'acts as a conscience SOME of the time!' So true!

I was a bit useless Saturday and yesterday - Saturday was the school fair, so was obligatory to drink lots of pimms! Yesterday I had a big concert (brag), but concerts always mean crap food I find. This is something I've got to find a solution to, as I do quite a lot, and always end up grabbing food in the space between rehearsal and concert, and it just doesn't work. But a nice shiny new thread is a good incentive, and I am feeling quite motivated atm.

tortoiseSHELL · 16/06/2008 09:34

Oh, and JJ, thanks for the birthday wishes!

Enid · 16/06/2008 09:50

MARINA - thinking of you and your family today. (Also thinking and lol-ling at your descriptions of your mother ) I have not been through anything like this (yet) and am dreading it (inevitable). Your father sounds like a lovely old soul.

Torty - happy birthday ds1! A curry how lovely, I hope you have a really nice evening

Banamama - lolol at banana bread/vodka martini substitution

JJ - hope you have a lovely studious day with JJjnr!

Saggars - that is why I KNOW the gym (pronounced 'Gime' in our house a la homer simpson) is wrong...

batters - that sounds like a great weekend! Have fun at sports day.

www - you should make this a blog soon. loving the title.

I will be breaking the no booze rule tonight as am going to a friends birthday party. I am driving but will have one glass of decent white wine with supper - have pre-ordered - asparagus with hollandaise followed by confit of duck (fat city) with orange and cumin salad and lentils. Yum. This is the friend who is about to have a tummy lipo operation (she left the bookingforms on her coffee table with all the details of what she had booked - can't believe she didnt mean me to read it but we have never actually discussed it and now too much time has passed for me to bring it up...)

Felt very low yesterday. Very tearful and miserable and negative. Have smiled and said something nice to everyone I could this morning to try and bring some good karma back into my life!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 16/06/2008 10:21

Best wishes to marinas dad.
arf at Mr Saggars.
arf @ www exceeding her fuck limit.

fathers day good. bought dh a gooseberry bush among other things so if he wants anymore kids he can look underneath that & hope. lots of time in the garden enjoying the sun - sunscreen on.

food quite good though i did have cooked breakfast. lots of water & fruit, good all over moisturiser, happy yes, exercise still minimal,

bugger archie calling...

Fanella · 16/06/2008 10:31

Hello? Can I come in?

I've been trying to get healthy all year (and losing weight as a consequence). I've upped my five a day, really increased my water intake and recently started doing lots and lots of walking.

You all seem lovely and supportive. It'd be lovely to have somewhere to come to with my successes (and failures!).

Marina · 16/06/2008 11:01

Morning all and thanks for kind thoughts re my dear old dad. If you can imagine a cross between Denholm Elliott and Just William, that's him really . As they forgot to check his carotid artery's condition (minor detail, huh ) he'll be done second on the list today and we'll hear nothing until the evening. Anniemac, the very helpful and honest patient info leaflet is terrifying, isn't it. I took it home and cried and cried over it. But am glad I know now IYSWIM.
The image of the Duke's face on being presented with a gooseberry bush and poor Mr Saggars slinking out of the gime has already given me a few cheap laughs .
It's that time of year, isn't it. No school fair for us but sports days agogo, hope all our little athletes have a good time and enjoy themselves.
Will check no-one has pinched that supplement in a mo Saggars.
Am also LOLing at the difference between a vodka martini and a banana (bamamama?) loaf. I tried this with craving = Magnum ice lolly, outcome = woody Packhams pear. Sigh.
JJ, so good to see you posting again, spotted your fab news that you are also sprung, on the Blug.
Enid, here's some good e-karma. You are a very funny (as in witty, not peculiar) woman and you have three of the sweetest little girls I have ever seen Hope today is better for you. And splendid for all. I lifted my mood this morning (stop sniggering at the back) by listening to this lovely recording. Impossible not to listen and not be moved by the lively music and the ardent conviction of Wesley's words.
Hope ds1 has a terrific birthday TS! Ds is a bit old for Playmobil now, he informs me, but his Papo knights and Bionicles are still in regular use, and he will happily help dd with Sylvanian Families installations (hopefully not of the Jake and Dinos variety )

Marina · 16/06/2008 11:02

X-posted with Fanella, welcome to bootcamp

Fanella · 16/06/2008 11:24

Thank you..

WideWebWitch · 16/06/2008 12:10

Everything crossed for your lovely dad Marina.

Enid, I am down today too, I cried on the tube this morning. Just general knackeredness I think. But I hope your evening out is cheering, that food sounds lovely. I will be better if I have a v early night tonight, I'm sure.

Fanella, you're most welcome, tell us aout yourself, do (WWW trills in schoolmarm fashion)

We have lost loads and loads of weight in total on thsi thread but I think listing the no of children we have between us would be interesting: I have 2 (don't know who's going to add them up!) do post your numbers if you can be arsed.

I am bored and slightly peed off with my job atm, which is a lethal combination which may end with my telling the b*tch I'm having a meeting with tomorrow (she's truly horrible, I woke up thinking about her) to fk off and die. Am consoling myself with fact that as a contractor I almost certainly earn more than her. Must keep my temper, must keep my temper. Talking of work, where's FIS?

Hope Monday isn't too horrible for everyone.

WideWebWitch · 16/06/2008 12:12

oh and very funny about Mr Saggars, lololol

OP posts:
Enid · 16/06/2008 12:16

I have 3 (2,5 and 8)

thanks Marina

www - do you think its no carbs , although I have felt like this before when troughing cakes too so...I think I just have a lot on my plate. Sorry (and strangely cheered at the same time) that you are feeling miserable too! I think a glass of wine and a lighthearted chat will improve my mood no end

foothesnoo · 16/06/2008 12:31

Am worried this thread may be jinxed for me - the last couple of times I have been back to it have been struck down almost immediately by lurgy causing me to eat my own body weight in buttered toast, so fingers crossed for this time.

There?s been some impressive weight loss for what purports to be a non-weight loss thread!

I eat pretty healthily most of the time but am attempting to cut out wheat again which is my sure fire way to lose weight. Can?t stomach porridge in the summer so have got back into oats soaked overnight in fruit juice with fruit and yoghurt ? delicious and not even the vaguest stomach rumblings yet (am usually ravenous by 11.30). Have been shocking on the alcohol front since January really ? have now run out of excuses for massive consumption (am much happier generally) so must cut back. Yesterday first day I didn?t have any for ?..ooooh an age. Am aiming for Friday and Sat nights only.

Marina ? fingers crossed for your father. Denholm Elliot was one of my first crushes (I think I saw him reading something on Jackanory) along with Peter Ustinov (ah, the voice of Barbar?.. )

Lol at Saggers DH!

WWW I am fed up at work too atm ? I really yearn to be hanging out with the kids at the moment rather than here ? think it?s the good weather.

I have lost track of who everyone is! Maybe we should do potted biogs as well as number of children?.?

Fanella · 16/06/2008 12:36

Thanks WWW!

Well..I'm thirty-odd, Ive got one DD who's 3 and I'm married. I work part time as a learndirect tutor. There are things I love about my job and things that really annoy me (targets and admin)

I've been overweight and unhealthy probably all my adult life. I was diagnosed with a heart condition when I was young - it's a very minor thing indeed but it did become easy to use it as an excuse for not exercising.

At the beginning of the year I decided enough was really enough. I started to calorie count, exercise more, drink lots of water and basically learn about food.

Consequently I've lost two stone since January and feel a million times better. I rarely drank anyway and now I hardly ever have anything alcoholic.

I had a bit of a naughty weekend - party on Saturday night with buffet , and then out for a meal for Father's Day yesterday. I went for a 3 mile walk yesterday morning to make up for some of it.

Today I feel tired and a bit headachey. But it's AF time so I'm putting it down to that. I'm having a nice cucumber/tomato and olive salad thing at the moment. And of course lots of water.

Hope I haven't bored you to tears with all this. I'm usually a lot funnier than this but I must be having an off day...

tortoiseSHELL · 16/06/2008 12:37

enid - sorry you are feeling down. I felt very guilty yesterday as I knew you would think I was having a go at you on that other thread and then you didn't come back! But I really wasn't - it was mean people other posters further up the thread! Hope today is better for you. xxxxx
