WWW's 10 year younger thread: the devil's own drivel - all welcome

Hello everyone, anyone is welcome to join.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

However, some of us (me and Suzywong) are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are doing the having-four-children-and-livestock-to-manage. LoveandSqualor is trying to put on weight

Anyway, we do a lot of chatting about life and everything on this thread but amongst it all we often post how we're feeling and what we ate and it acts as a conscience. Some of the time

Happy shiny new week everyone.

My back feels like a troupe of trampolinists (sp?) have been practicing on it. In hob nail boots. Have sent dh out for wine. The panadol just wasn't cutting it. I know I'll regret it in the morning but I can't farking walk.

off to drown my sorrows..

eemie · 17/06/2008 12:05

Good day everyone. May I come back? Never really got established in boot camp but would like to, and need to take better care of self.

Marina, sorry to see your Dad's been through the mill, hope he's on the mend. Don't wish to seem flippant, but why not displace some of your anxiety on the Mornington Crescent thread? You too, sobernow and www. Your classical style much needed over there. Lots of reverse double back-shunting going on atm (tsk).

I need all the bootcamping encouragement I can get, because:-

  1. I'm on new puppy planet - amazing how much it reminds me of having a newborn. Sleep deprived, dressed in slobbery rags (except at work), sore cracked hands from constant washing...
  2. Stopped HRT recently - gained weight suddenly and having scary mood swings.
  3. Also, we're trying to sell the house (you've got to laugh at our timing, eh?) more anxiety, gloom & doom, donkey work getting it all ready.
  4. Work also v. heavy.

Knew it was All Getting a Bit Much when flew into irrational rage with dh on Sun and ended up spending night on couch. So - time for some appropriate self-care. This week so far - porridge for breakfast, more water less coffee, some hand cream/body lotion, no alcohol.

Baby steps...

Fanella · 17/06/2008 12:06

Morning all!

I suspect it will take me a while to get used to who everyone is and what's going on with everyone - but I hope everyone is feeling well and happy, and if you're not I hope you soon are...

I'm having a good day so far - but haven't actually gone to work yet so it could all go down hill rapidly (staff meeting this afternoon with lots of boring target waffle from manager)

Today I have had a lovely shower and moisturised using summer glow body lotion stuff. I look forward to correcting the streaks tomorrow.

No walking yet except for around the supermarket. I'll make up for it tonight walking the dog.

Lots of water.

Muesli (sp) for breakfast and I'm having a food doctor bagel, olives and rocket houmous for lunch.

Feeling generally happy today, my headache has gone completely. Looking forward to this weekend as we're taking dd camping for the first time ever. We're going to Castlerigg stone circle in the Lakes to watch the sun come up on midsummer day. If we can get up early enough...

bamamama · 17/06/2008 12:57

Fanella - much at being at Castlerigg. I grew up near the Lakes and it's very much where I call home.

Dh still not back with wine

Oh, I'm in Oz for those who don't know, this isn't lunchtime drinking...

WideWebWitch · 17/06/2008 13:08

Hello all!

Oh PRUFROCK, WHAT A MISSED OPPORTUNITY! thanks for reminding me, oh bugger, I've got a meeting with a bitch on a Tuesday and I forgot to use it, dammit!

For anyone who's wondering what I'm on about, I once had a woman who was v rude to a lovely member of my team and when said member said to me "AAAAGGGHH, how can I tell her to not be so rude to us?" I said "write back and say we'll discuss it at our meeting next week and end the email with 'See You Next Tuesday'" (geddit? C.U.N etc) - anyway, the woman most definitely did get the intended slight but couldn't very well say in the meeting "you called me a cnt" because we'd only have denied it. Although, very satisfyingly, she did say "I got an email reply that said "SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY" thus letting us know that she knew we were calling her a cnt hahaha and I was able to say with a straight face, "yes, I sanctioned that because I absolitely thought this meeting was the right place to discuss it. My whole team were in on the joke and managed to keep a straight face during the meeting although we laughed our heads off when we came out and she'd gone off, looking very stroppy indeed. Thank you for reminding me!

Enid, glad you had a lovely evening. I am feeling happier today due to earlier night and emailing my diet buddy to vent.

Eemie, tell us about menopause/HRT if you're up to it, we're many of us headed in that direction, welcome. Mornington Crescent, hmm, maybe later, am at work atm.

lol at Sobernow's bee, lolol and hope your presentation goes well

dofN, now that's romance too, how lovely.

Iota, sorry your imprisonment is rubbish. Must be v boring

I like Moonshine's mantra too. Whenever I feel I look crap I remember what ex dh said to me not long ago "you're a middle aged woman, NO ONE'S looking at you" - awful but almost certainly true.

Foo, hope your hair is good

bundle hope drunkeness was enjoyable

Good luck Sobernow.

30 days Iota? Hope it's better sooner. And your back too bamamama.

lol at you Enid being moved to Cornwall against your will.

Ortho clinic was less of a trial than expected and we got discharged!! Consultant was a bit disappointed at the scars he's left bless him, but dd generally isn't bothered by them anymore.

Have been to the gym but haven't done much in the way of lotions and potions.

re: HRT - had to lose ovaries a few years ago when had hysterectomy for (bad) endometriosis (nb hysterectomy not usually needed for endo).

GP too cowardly to prescribe HRT because of my Hughes syndrome (entirely spurious reason). Had overnight menopause which I found unbearable. Burning/freezing, sleepless, depressed, irritable. Of course if I'd had cancer, I'd just have had to put up with it all, as a friend of mine did.

As it was I got oestradiol patches just in time to prevent a homicide. Felt better in a couple of hours - so quickly, in fact, that I thought it must be psychological.

But by now I'd have been in natural menopause, so sticking to my original intention to stop. Tbh it's not as bad as I feared so far.

The worst grief at the end of childbearing was after surgery - but it's still work in progress.

foothesnoo · 17/06/2008 16:41

I can report that hair is smashing. Am looking as gamine as an insouciant thing. Will be running across Parisian bridges before you know it.

Having a mixed day in camp. Very anxious about DD on her trip. She is canoeing and doing high ropes today. DH started my day off by showing me the article about the poor father who had to choose which of his children to save in a canoeing accident on the Wye. Tomorrow she is kayaking and doing a sea-level traverse with ropes. Think tomorrow is the day with the cliff jumping. Stomach is churning at the thought. Will be on tenterhooks tomorrow.

Have booked my holiday today though so have achieved something. Off out for a walk now with DC (they are missing DD hugely).

Marina - fab news about your Dad.
WWW - has your week improved?
Iota - what have you done to your ankle?
DoNB - your DH sounds a star.
Enid - periods of huge vulnerability here too. Cycle to work and start off in cheerful mood but am on the verge of tears when I get there. Feel like this all day and can be massively, annoyingly cheery one minute and the next quite the opposite. Must be really crap for colleagues but they are understanding (and often the same).

Sobernow glad it went well

Yoyo, thanks for asking, my week has improved. Meeting with bitch woman wasn't as bad as I thought (they never are are they?) and working from home tomorrow.

some salami, brie and port salut as a snack
then 2 ementhal babybels
5 brazils
and dh has just made me beefburger with blue cheese and garlic mayo, must go and eat it!

Back later.

  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • 2 x 2 mile hike and the twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - lax.
  • Go to bed early, 11ish.
  • Eat healthily. reasonable.
  • Be happy. Oh yes. I am inexplicably thrilled because we've had the new fridge-freezer delivered today and it's fab. Been to Tesco to fill it up and even managed to stick to healthy food!

The work situation looks like it may be resolved finally! Not before time, and I'm still very cross, but as my eminently sensible colleague reminds me - the end result is what's important. So thank you all for your kinds words of support.

And on the up, staff shortfalls are slowly being resolved (two down, two to go). AND we've got the manager we wanted when our manager (currently on holiday and blissfully unaware of this episode) retires.

Lol at "not a peanut shop". Read it just as DS was telling me in a very admiring tone "a boy in my class can do armpit farts...they are rather annoying".

WideWebWitch · 17/06/2008 21:16

Good news on the work situation ureb and lol at peanuts.

Sobernow, this feels like MY diet tbh. I really can manage without carbs I think and am very happy eating the lovely food I'm eating and I'm never hungry, which means it's easy to stick to.

burger was delicious

OH bama - do you have voltarol there - it's a diflunec based gel that you rub inot the offending parts and it really does help very quickly

eemie - what sort of puppy? Be reassured that new puppy gets easier to deal with far more quickly than newborn baby.

www - when you first told that tale I was gutted that I no longer worked and so no longer had horrible people who I could send it to.

foo -we need pictures!

Why is it that MY diet - lots of bread and butter, crisps and guacamole, pasta with creamy sauces, hearty oxtail stew, takeaway curry - has to be one that doesn't make you lose any weight?

Sunscreen yes
No booze, at least 2l of water
Only a short dog walk to pick up ds, but did manage to go to gym for 20 minutes cardio, 10 minutes weights and lots of abs.
Body brushed, scrubbed and will be creamed soon
Hand cream and foot cream
Not in bed by 10:30 again, and probably won't sleep till very late as dh is away. Even when he doesn't have a job he's still entertaining clients.

Prufrock · 17/06/2008 22:16

Food kind of messed up, because I didn't have breakfast (Granola and skimmed milk) until 10:30. The was too busy to get lunch, so ended up grabbing a hunk of beef from the fridge. Then desperately hungry at friends, but resisted chocolate biscuits, creamy chicken and rice and ice cream, and contented myself with an apple and some broccoli and carrots stolen from the kids plates. The resisted the lure of the chocolate counter at the petrol station but did give into 2 ridiculously calorific but marketed as health food granola bars when I got home. Then leftover beef, potatoes, yorkshire pudding and cabbage. 3 cups coffee, but all before midday.
Feeling virtuous, and have almost made dd's caterpillar costume, so quite proud of myself too
