WWW's 10 year younger thread: the devil's own drivel - all welcome

WideWebWitch · 15/06/2008 19:13

Hello everyone, anyone is welcome to join.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

However, some of us (me and Suzywong) are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are doing the having-four-children-and-livestock-to-manage. LoveandSqualor is trying to put on weight

Anyway, we do a lot of chatting about life and everything on this thread but amongst it all we often post how we're feeling and what we ate and it acts as a conscience. Some of the time

Happy shiny new week everyone.

Evening all!
Dad is progressing well thanks Duchess, hopefully your hip will follow his example
Have read all but events of last week really catching up so will just say good bootcamp day and 2.5lb off tonight at SlimyWorld. There were great prizes in the raffle and I did not win any of them. A 12 year won some skewers, handy for the B13 on those rough trips home through Bexleyheath maybe
There is some way too yummy food being described here. IPD is like chips for some of us though I think - tantalising aroma but not really good for our digestions if taken too far.
Yoyo, I know she will be home safe and well soon. We found it impossible to go in and look at ds' little lair though, we just closed the door. XXX

unknownrebelbang · 18/06/2008 21:56

Hello everyone. Quick in and out again tonight.

  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • Just the twister, thanks to DS1 and DH, grr.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - lax.
  • Go to bed early, 11ish.
  • Eat healthily. reasonable.
  • Be happy. I am weary. Had words with DH this morning cos I dared to shout at the boys (justified tbh, but still grrr). And tonight the daft sod went to collect the boys from school without waiting for me to get home from work, thereby depriving me of my walk - and I got ridiculously weepy instead of just jumping on the exercise bike instead. .
arfishy · 18/06/2008 23:19

Gah. I was reading this last night after a 14 hour working day when my agent phoned to say that after 2.5 years my contract is ending in two weeks time. Oh thanks for the notice you bastards shining examples of professionalism and courtesy.

So I immediately opened a bottle of wine and as a diversion taught DD the dance steps to Brotherhood of man's 'Save all your kisses for me' video ("They have funny clothes mummy")

Then as I was stomping down the hallway in a strop as the prospect of finding another job and the inevitibility that I will not be able to work from home sunk in I smacked my foot against a door and am now waiting for DP to take me to hospital for an x-ray, as I still can't walk on it the next morning.

So all I want to say is GRRRRRRR. And also that I despite the wine I stayed within my points allowance Halo, possibly because I didn't actually eat dinner due to spending the evening in a rage drinking wine and muttering bastards under my breath.

Moving aside from the fascinating subject of me and my bruised clearly broken toes, glad all is good with your dad marina, he sounds lovely.

Welcome to the thread Fenella

LOL at Bananabread vs Vodka Martini Bama. It's a tricky one indeed. God I love toasted banana bread smothered in butter, oozing butteryness and banana. [salivates and heads to the nearest cafe]. I am also pretty fond of Vodka Martini, so a very tough call.

Hope the hip gets better DofNB, and wow, what a great husband. DP didn't get up in the night for DD, er, ever. [bitter]

Hope everybody else is well, have to go and shower ahead of hospital visit.

Not entirely sure how I'm going to attend DD's French presentation lesson this afternoon or meeting with her teacher afterwards, but will think up strategic solution because I am after all unemployed a professional

suzywong · 19/06/2008 01:09

oh Hell, arfy, does that mean you may have to go back to Blighty?

arfishy · 19/06/2008 06:30

You can't get rid of me THAT easily wong

It just means I'll have to get a new job which will not be nearly as cushy as my current working-from-home number. Conference call in a dressing gown anyone?

lol at false sense of security batters, enjoy it, you've bloody well earned it darlin'

Arfy, oh no, what a PITA. Is there any chance you could apply EVERYWHERE at once and get lots of companies involved in a bidding war for your services, whereupon you tell them all that the other ones are offering xyz days from home? Sympathy on the foot and you needed the wine for sure.

Anniemac, fab about your dad, how lovely.
Sorry about cm situation though.

I went to sleep at 10pm last night so consequently feel good today.

2 sausage and egg muffins
spinach salad with bacon, avocado, green beans, anchovies, tomato, quails eggs and vinaigrette
plenty of water so far
sunscreen used

feel reasonably happy as work is fine and tomorrow is Friday, hurrah.

Arfishy - how is the foot? Wine perfectly acceptable but not so sure about actually knowing the moves to Brotherhood of Man poptastic hit.

Batters - knew I would fret about DD but she is home tomorrow (yippee). DH saw the Head's wife who visited them yesterday and said they were having a great time although she wasn't really going to say anything else really. Enjoy those compliments as they are thoroughly well deserved. Do you have a target weight that you want to attain?

Anniemac - what a relief for you. Did you say they were visiting in the Summer?

Marina - another 2.5 lb is great. You have obviously found your diet too. Glad to hear that your Dad is well on the mend and thanks for comforting words about DD.

Bad day in the camp. Got hungry and ate some v.small but v. calorific sandwiches and the biggest slice of carrot cake. Promised DH curry but may struggle I think. Feeling happy because the sun is shining but there is a lovely breeze too.

WideWebWitch · 19/06/2008 19:47

Evening all.

Good day overall, two more viewings lined up on house (don't know if they're real prospects or time-wasters, but I can dream).

Long day at work but manageable, came home to happy puppy and dh and dd, had cold beer on terrace with dh (oops!)

They have all eaten but I can feast on healthy leftovers and have another early night, slathered in body lotion.

Has anyone found a sunscreen that doesn't make you spotty?

Marina · 19/06/2008 21:40

Evening all!
17,000 steps, visited dad in hospital, ate well, drank loads of water, found resourceful solution to knotty problem at work, went to choir practice, split atom etc
Even managed to squeeze in vitriolic falling out with dh. Which leaves me 40 mins to do Angry Dishes and slump onto sofa to watch Without a Trace...
Sorry about the job arfishy and your childminder woes annie.
Better dash....

Cammelia · 19/06/2008 21:43

Hello everyone, I've enjoyed reading your posts. Dd's exams are over, the results are coming in, so far she has done really well. maybe my spending my birthday helping her revise has paid off.

Talking about birthdays, how does my body know I'm the exact age that most women have the menopause. I keep heating up for no reason

I have done v. little exercise recently (too busy) but have eaten relatively healthily.

Went to a 50th b/day party last Saturday for my BIL who is a GP so obviously drank gallons of champagne. What is it about doctors and alcohol?

unknownrebelbang · 19/06/2008 21:51

Well done Marina on both the weightloss and the dvd unveiling, and glad your Dad is doing well.

Well done Suzy.

How's the back Bama? the hip Duchess? the toes Arfishy? (Bad news about the job.)

Good news about your dad Annie, bad news about the CM.

Lab puppies are fab.

I hope your daughter has had a great time yoyo. Bet you can't wait to see her.

Good luck with the viewings eemie.

moonshine · 19/06/2008 22:09

Ok have caught up with some of the thread and it's had be lolling loads with the spectre of us all being sent over the edge by cheese and onion crisp breath and ickle bees. My recent tipping point was some very very slightly overcooked broccoli - that took me to the 9th circle of hell (I'm still popping those pills).

Marina - well done on losing weight in the face of adversity. I was also lolling about the New Look trips - I used to buy some clothes from there but have not found anything in an age. But I do buy my shoes there, especially as my feet have had the temerity to grow wider in the past few months and I can skulk around the 'big boat' shoes fairly inconspicuously (see also similar section in M&S).

My trousers of truth have told me I am in the last chance saloon lately but bootcamp has been good this week. Lots of chicken/fish and salad, no 'evil' cereal and a million bananas (what would I do without them). Just need to keep it up for several more months (and dd is back down again so must go...)

unknownrebelbang · 19/06/2008 22:35
  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze.
  • 2 mile hike + the twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - lax.
  • Go to bed early, late.
  • Eat healthily. Dire. Too many sausages; choc chip cookies and glorious Burnt Sugar hot ginger fudge.
  • Be happy. DH managed to royally piss me off again tonight. Any odds on making it three days on the trot?

On the up, finally got to see my friend's beautiful baby boy.

bundle · 19/06/2008 22:37

'trousers of truth'
You know you're in trouble when every trouser is a trouser of truth

Fanella · 20/06/2008 08:59

bad bad bad day yesterday. All round.

I had that 'on the verge of tears' feeling all day. They finally spilled over when I pulled up outside the house after a full day at work and supermarket shop. DH came out to help me unload the shopping and found me in tears at the steering wheel.

Cue lots of hugs and talking, and a good night's sleep and I feel a million times better. I think I was just overdue a good cry.

Today will be a better day - getting ready for our camping trip and I am going to drink lots of water and eat really well.

So -

Food - good until I got home, then had a beer and some chocolate.
Water - ok but not enough.
no exercise.
Bed lateish but we were packing so it couldn't be helped. Slept very well so feel refreshed.

Lol at trousers of truth. I'll use that from now on - much more reliable than my scales which are fibbing and telling me I've put on a pound this week.

Prufrock · 20/06/2008 10:12

Yesterday

Sunscreen yes
No booze, at least 2l of water
20 minutes cardio, 10 minutes weights and lots of abs, and ran to school to pick up ds.
Body brushed, and scrubbed
Bed by 11
Granola and skimmed milk for breakfast, salad with a tiny lamb steak for lunch. I have discovered that I actually do like tomatoes if they are nice tasty ones.
Apple
I'm having mid afternoon cravings, so succumbed to another granola bar, and still ate a leftover chicken nugget (but homemade natch)
Green chicken curry and brown rice
2 cups peppermint tea

arfishy · 20/06/2008 13:00

Thanks all for kind words ref evil ex-contract. Feel free to crochet voodoo-dolls of the entire management chain of my ex-organisation. Names on application.

My beautifully blue/purple/red toes and crutches are an excellent excuse for me to not have to attend a lunchtime leaving party of fake appreciation of former colleagues and spend the day at a spa doing a handover instead.

Anyhoo, I limped valiantly into my WW weigh-in this morning and after making sure that everybody was aware that I had been completely unable to exercise THE WHOLE WEEK because of the broken toes I sustained yesterday an unspecified time ago I had still managed to lose 2lb. So I'm up to a 9lb loss and in a fit of enthusiasm I tried on my old 'fat' jeans, the results of which we'll gloss over [still fat emoticon]

Trousers of Truth (TM) - great idea (ignores own huge arse).

How is your dad Marina?

What happened with the childminder Annie? I read your thread and am a bit .

Fanella - are you one of the camper lot? I'd love to do that but in Australia it's more 'dicing with death' than 'fresh air and outdoor pursuits'. Also LOL at demonic scales. I have a WiiFit like that [glares at skulking white board of doom]

WWW - you know it's always a chore to settle into a new contract but I'm sure I'll be able to gently ease in a few days working from home once I've got my foot in the door [plans to just announce non-appearance in office after 5 days]

Yoyo - god no! I streamed the video of Brotherhood of Man from youtube to the tv for DD to dance to [geek]

WideWebWitch · 20/06/2008 13:21

This thread is hilarious and has just made me snort at work, which I had to hastily supress as obviously work isn't a place for such frivolity.

Gosh we are an emotional lot on this thread aren't we? But hey now, has everyone who needs a cry had one? If not, let your hair down! Drink wine tonight and cry if you want to!

Marina lol at splitting the atom. The last thing I split was my skirt lining due to enormous arse and thighs combo.

Counted the steps I climb during my morning commute today and it is 142! So I do that up and then another 142 down again in the morning and slightly less every evening as in the evening I don't change at Wembley, cutting out about 40 of them. Fuck, that's boring isn't it? But I am wiped out today and since I went to sleep at 10pm last night suspect it's commute. Never mind. I have a strong cup of coffee in front of me and I'm sure that will get me through the next 3 hours.

Today
2 sausage and egg muffins
some salami and cheese as a snack
smoked salmon and cream cheese wraps
have emental babybel for a snack later
we're having poussin and Champagne tonight.
Bet I'm asleep by 10. Poor dh, I'm like Cinderella but disappear earlier. And I don't slave in the kitchen, or have 2 ugly sisters (although I do have 2 sisters) apols, crap similie.

used sunscreen
have drunk lots of water so far
no alcohol since last Sat night, obviously as I don't drink during the week

I am very relieved it's Friday. Happy weekend everyone.
