WWW's 10 year younger thread: the devil's own drivel - all welcome

WideWebWitch · 15/06/2008 19:13

Hello everyone, anyone is welcome to join.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

However, some of us (me and Suzywong) are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are doing the having-four-children-and-livestock-to-manage. LoveandSqualor is trying to put on weight

Anyway, we do a lot of chatting about life and everything on this thread but amongst it all we often post how we're feeling and what we ate and it acts as a conscience. Some of the time

Happy shiny new week everyone.

Good Evening WWW, here are the results of the Marina Bootcamp Jury.
Walking yy
Hateful exercise bike yy
Good eating yy

So its douze points all round here. Dsis visited dad for a few minutes today (it is becoming apparent that mum now has a hospital phobia to accommodate ). He does look fairly dinged up and frail, inevitably, but every hour or so they whip another tube out of him and tell him to stand up, and this is called "making pleasing progress". Sounds like Evil Victoria moonlights as an intensive care nurse . Actually, all the staff are just fantastic. I think today we have all been digesting how close we have come to losing him - dad included. It's been a funny old day although ds' sports day was an unexpected riot.

Point of information for long-term bootcampers - I finally unwrapped and viewed my Strictly Come Dancersize DVD this evening. It is scary. Those gals have big muscly legs under those frocks. Karen is kind and easy to follow, Erin is a sadist. I will keep you posted unless doing the samba workout hospitalises me as well.

WWW, I know you have had a hard day, so glad bitch meeting was less ugh than feared Courage, ma brave!
Good to hear your work nightmare was resolved too ureb and welcome back eemie
LOL at sobernow and the peanut shop. My best ever vacation job was working for Makro for similar small beer. Much more eventful and eye-opening than my previous billet at M & S and the people were way nicer.
Those granola bars are bitches prufrock - better off with an honest norty KitKat, honestly.
Have lovely vision of a backlit golden sobernow standing up to her waist in a verdant veg patch, calling the little birds and bees to her
Glad you have rallied from encounter with insane Touareg person enid, can't you put her details onto Rightmove for sheltered housing in Dagenham or something?
Batters, why would work possibly be busy for you right now?
And so glad you like the new haircut FooFoo or should that be Gigi?

Marina, so glad your dad is doing well, and that he is getting good care - that must be a big relief for you all.

lol at 'See You Next Tuesday' www!

Good day for me yesterday - lots of walking, ate really healthily (I think) - an avocado, couple of raw carrots, punnet of strawberries from neighbours' allotment, 1 piece of bread with pate. Dh was out last night, so I didn't bother with an evening meal as couldn't be bothered, so went to bed early (well earlyish, was watching that programme about the Berlin Phil, so wasn't uber early!).

Have a good day everyone!

tortoiseSHELL · 18/06/2008 08:36

marina, let us know what the SCD DVD is like - I think I ought to get some sort of exercise DVD for when ds2 is asleep, as I am trapped in the house then, and would be good to have some exercise thing to do then.

eemie · 18/06/2008 08:53

Prufrock - a lovely lollopy black labrador, 12 weeks. She's learning manners already and I know she's going to be worth it all.

Dd a bit wary of her, not used to dogs and also not well (off school last two days with nasty bug) but that will improve too as puppy's behaviour gets more predictable.

So today - no puppy messes or puddles (but I did get up at 5.30)

Healthy breakfast

Dd feeling better, back at school

Sun shining (weakly)

Hair and skin already looking happier after only three days of better treatment

Six weeks till singing summer school and had great lesson last night

So generally more cheerful

And the first crop circles have appeared so husband happy too (it doesn't take much)

LOLOL at crop circles, with mine it is midge hatches FFS
Prufrock will definitely want to talk labs with you eemie, she has one of those and a very norty lad he is too
Batters, I suspect sabotage. Back to the salt mines, Quality Assurance Slave! No e-mailing friends...

Sports Day was just jovial (years 3 and up). Now ds' lot are all nine, they finally have a realistic perspective on their chances in the races and sensitive losers like ds and a friend in days of yore, now just enjoy the craic.

We think the Water Aid drinks stand may have been spiked though - all the three-legged races ended in every contestant lying helplessly laughing on the floor and the PE teacher having to drag them over the finishing line.

A random toddler followed the teachers setting up tennis ball relay, surreptitiously swapping hoops, lanes etc without them realising

Twins who left in Reception (parents are expats finally back in the UK) returned after half-term and got a rapturous reception when they ran their races

It was just a lovely day really

eemie, where are you doing singing school - is it Dartington?

I will report further on SCD. When I was not such a bloater I loved to dance so I think it will suit me all right. I am going to need an all-over sports bra/truss/spanx to do the shimmying bits though . Old Erin is a bit austere - very much "you won't see me in this bit because it's way too easy for me" Andrea Turner mould
Twinkly Karen has her tummy obscured with chiffon and knows about "why we got fat".

WideWebWitch · 18/06/2008 09:49

OMG and Fanfare for the common (wo)man at Marina OPENING the dvd!(DO NOT OPEN AT WORK, IT'S A SOUND FILE!)

Nearly went for the Emerson Palmer one but this is more serious sounding!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 18/06/2008 09:55

Oh Eemie, are you near Dartington? We used to live in Dartmouth and Kingsbridge (not at same time, obv!) and dh is from Kingswear. lol at crop circles too.

Went to bed at 10.30 last night, feel ok this morning. Have had 2 sausage and egg muffins for breakfast and it's so so lovely to be working from home.

OP posts:
Prufrock · 18/06/2008 10:07

I actually have 2 black labs now - the lovely Roger is now 2, and seems to have grown out of his embarrassing staining of the grey stair carpet with his erm "emissions". Apple is 9 months, and still puppyish in his behavior, but gradually calming down. They are the most wonderful dogs. Do you have a cage eemie? Makes things so much easier. And do try to get him/her? to always pee and poo in the same place in the garden - choose a spot, take them there and stay until they do it, tehn praise like mad and give treats. We didn't do this with ours and it's a pain to have to poo hunt in all the flower beds. Also, if you let them pee on the grass your dh will be finding his very own crop circles all over the lawn.

Marina WELL DONE. Exercise is one of the things that bootcamp has really helped me with - it's now part of my normal routine and I feel bad if I don't get at least 20 minutes of cardio in each day.

suzywong · 18/06/2008 10:27

hello everyone
how's things?

Good

now, I am on phase2 week 2 of the IPD and I've lost almost 6 kilos in three weeks

Can I just say that the 2litres of water a day seems to be key?

I have introduced blueberries, chocolate (70% cocoa only and then just a square or two three times a week) and VODKA back in to my diet.

I have been making my own lime mayo, pesto and some roast capsicum marinaded with tarragon and brandy.

Today I had breakfast of ham, pesto and cheese; lunch of smoked salmon and salad with home made mayo and dinner of lamburgers and sauted swiss chard.

Who wants to join me? (and WWW and who else is doing it?)

Hello all. I'm suitably dosed up on Voltaren which will (allegedly) stop my spine falling out. It's a bit better today and I managed to get quite a lot of walking in however I suspect I looked like When-Strictly-Come-Dancercise-Goes-Wrong as I shuffled around Canberra's leafy suburbs.
Bootcamping has subsequently been awful and I seem to be eating a lot of bread and beer. Already feeling a bit bloaty and crap so will try and knock this on the head tomorrow and get back on the straight and narrow.

Oh, and with my dh it's woodburners. When we first met I found a polaroid of his woodburner in his wallet. Should have run for the hills...

foothesnoo · 18/06/2008 14:29

Oats with rasperries and vanilla yoghurt
Spinach salad with Halloumi and new potatoes
Ginger oat cakes
Salad nicoise

Headachey and feeling very tired today. Could be the coffe I drank yesterday (two cups - normally have coffee once a week). Surely the fact that I haven't had a drink since Saturday should be giving me a bit of extra zip? But have been lol at this thread what with crop cirles, Strictly exercise videos and peanuts.

And Batters a chocolate near-miss, saved by this thread and our collective displeasure! Fantastic!

Ticks on everything yesterday. Feeling pleased with self.

Had to watch first half of football with DS last night which I managed on nothing stronger than a cup of peppermint tea when I would usually have had a beer. Had funny chat with him all about bhuddism - DS "I like the sound of it all but I'd rather be an archeologist than a bhuddist".

Still love hair but no, prufrock, no pics, perish the thought! Have remembered that shorter hair does knock a few years off one.

WWW your food does sound amazing but spenny!

Fanella · 18/06/2008 14:44

Hello all,

Hope everyone is happy and feeling well.

WWW - that link in the last thread about 'why the scales lie' was very reassuring. I will try not to look again now until official weigh day (Friday). I've passed it on to someone on another thread who was getting really down about seeing her weight fluctuate day to day.

Marina - really pleased your dad is on the up.

Sobernow - interesting what you say about different diets for different folks. I'm similar to you - could easily give up dairy etc but would miss bread!

food - muesli with oaty drink thing. Ham, olive and tomato salad and a macaroon .

not nearly enough water, no exercise as yet.

I'm not happy today.... feeling all downhearted and dull. It's probably the weather as it's been pouring down all day. I woke up in the middle of the night with agonising pain in my wrist for some reason - probably just cramp or I'd been sleeping on it, but it really hurt, for ages. So I'm tired too.

Oh well - there's my camping trip to look forward to (hope the weather improves).

eemie · 18/06/2008 17:34

Batters - you've got me thinking now - how to combine sex with crop circles to produce heaven on earth for husband.

Sounds potentially prickly though...um...did that come out right?

Marina, what are midge hatches? Does he have photos of them in his wallet as well?

I live in Surrey but we go to Dartington every year - that's my heaven on earth (and there is sex there too of course).

Prufrock, we have a crate which is the reason the puppy (Bella) hasn't eaten our house (it's true, they do go for skirting boards, don't they?). And she has her special piddling and pooping place which she already uses most of the time, thank goodness.

Dd and I took her out for her first walk in the park today (12 weeks - vaccinations will be effective now). Great excitement and v. sociable, everyone spoke to us

tortoiseSHELL · 18/06/2008 20:33

Today - walking - lots round town - not sure how far, but did big circuit - www, you know Bristol - Galleries, up past hospitals, up to Park Row, down Park Street, round Broad Street, back to Galleries. Lots of hills anyway.

Water - not enough - will go and drink some now

Food - had coffee with emkana, then lunch with dh - tomato and basil soup, bread roll, a few of ds2's crips. About to have some fruit, as am hungry, not sure for tea.

Suncream - no - has pissed down rained all day alas.

Happiness - good. Had nice day, out doing things, went to museum with ds2 and emkana and her gorgeous boy!

iamdingdong · 18/06/2008 20:38

oh my so many posts in just a couple of days, I'll never keep up

bad bootcamping at the moment, sunday in particular, resulting in my worst hangover in years on Monday

yoyo · 18/06/2008 20:52

Felt somewhat lethargic all day and will be off to bed soon as a result. Have eaten well and will be slathering on hand and foot cream so not bad going. Had the trainer today and, as usual, found it tough but rewarding. I am definitely fitter and more toned but every week she finds something that I find nigh on impossible and says "those muscles are a bit weak - we'll have to work on them". Had to do lunges up and down the centre of the gym today. Felt a complete idiot especially as the other gym bods were trying to be encouraging which only made me feel more self-conscious.

Spoke to my Dad earlier and he said that the weather locally was dreadful today. DD is not that far from them. Will be so glad to see her on Friday - even though her behaviour has been rather trying of late I am missing her dreadfully. I have even started playing her Kelly Clarkson despite asking her to "put that noise off" for the last few months.

Sobernow - of all the exercise/fitness classes I have done Pilates had the most significant impact on my shape. My trainer adds some of the exercises to our sessions and I do a few at home because I really find them beneficial. Do you do a class or have individual sessions?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/06/2008 20:59

Oh heck it's busy. I hope marinas dad is OK - will check thread properly tomorrow.

I've finally been out walking the dog again, even with my dodgy hip (which is a bit better but I'm off to physio again), but forgot to put Omron on so no idea how many steps.

Food has been good but I've been at the raw carrots, apples and bananas like a woman possessed. It's the breastfeeding. It usually makes me fat but I'm determined not to raid the biscuit tin and will just order more carrots. Ocado probably think I farm rabbits.

Water and moisturiser good. Feet neglected. Happy yes.

Prufrock · 18/06/2008 21:10

Can you see in the dark yet Duch?

Sunscreen yes
No booze, at least 2l of water
30 minutes cardio, 10 minutes weights and lots of abs.
Body brushed, scrubbed and will cream tonight - something else that I now seem to have worked into my normal routine.
Hand cream and foot cream
Didn't get to sleep until 1:30 this am, but that's good for a night when dh is away. Will hopefully be earlier tonight
Granola and skimmed milk for breakfast, boiled egg, green bean and homegrown salad leaves for lunch. Resisted lure of chocolate machine at swimming (I've realised that so much of my bad eating is due to habits, not hunger) Met dh in town for tea at Carluccios, and had delicious sea bass, potatoes and salsa, didn't eat ds's spag bol or choc ice-cream remains, but did have 4 grissini. Tonight I have given in to 6 dark chocolate truffles, but it's a good way to be bad.

Cammelia · 18/06/2008 21:11

I totally can't sleep when dh is away either Prufrock

WideWebWitch · 18/06/2008 21:28

Ts, I can totally picture that route in my mind's eye! that's a long way!

have read you all, but it will take for ever to post replies so I hope you'll forgive my laziness.

I'm glad it's Thursday tomorrow, roll on Friday...
