WWW's 10 year younger thread: the devil's own drivel - all welcome

WideWebWitch · 15/06/2008 19:13

Hello everyone, anyone is welcome to join.

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

However, some of us (me and Suzywong) are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are doing the having-four-children-and-livestock-to-manage. LoveandSqualor is trying to put on weight

Anyway, we do a lot of chatting about life and everything on this thread but amongst it all we often post how we're feeling and what we ate and it acts as a conscience. Some of the time

Happy shiny new week everyone.

Oh Marina, that's lovely to hear!

Fanella, that sounds like a lovely afternoon, glad your headache is better. (Marina's dad had a heart bypass this afternoon)

Sobernow lol at your gardening. Are you definitely 'on the turn'? Have you had a hormone test? Sorry you're weepy.

Moonshine, oo er at calves. I am still resolutely in 40 denier opaques, albeit with such a long skirt that no one would know. Luckily am on air con trains then air con office then home, can't face relinquishing them and letting my stomach hang on more than it already does. Good luck on hard core week

DofN, ew at your hip, sounds painful. And thank goodness you've now had some water

L&S, skim read that article and thought yeah yeah, don't eat carbs, doesn'#t apply to me

Yoyo, glad we're not the only ones. We do have 2 whole childfree nights in a hotel coming up in less than a month, I can't wait.

Foofoo, precis of why we got fat: We thought we looked marvellous when we didn't we were heifers; we were grief stricken; we ate from stress/boredom etc but it alleviated neither, India says something like "do mothers of newborns eat pies while gazing into their baby's eyes?" and I can't remember the other stuff but I reckon it's worth buying the book for that alone tbh, even if you don't want to do the diet. It's all making sense to me now. I've honestly not wanted to eat anything I'm not allowed to on this diet (except wine and I'm allowed that at the weekend so it's ok)

Just popping in to say Respect again to Marina's Dad

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/06/2008 20:53

3 'children' here. 19, 16 & 14. If anyone is counting.

Whilst the scales are telling me I've lost no weight, my thighs are definitely looking a little slimmer. Maybe the dodgy knee forcing me into the gym has actually been a godsend. On the back of this though I've had a bad day foodwise. Started well enough...

Banana & yoghurt for brekkie.

Forgot proper lunch so Cup a soup banana & yoghurt plus cereal bar for lunch.
Then too many mint choc things left by grateful parent.
Fish chips and mushy peas for dinner. And bread and butter.
oh and two rounds of granary bread and cream cheese snaffled at four o'clock
Not enough water. And a biscuit.

Sorry about the hip Norks and the head Fanella and your general down-ness www and Enid.

Nice to see you JJ. Hope you remain relatively sane despite pending MIL arrival.

Tomorrow I have the joys of orthopaedic clinic with dd. It's one of those clinics where you go from A to B to C and back to A again. I may be gone for some time

WideWebWitch · 16/06/2008 21:02

Aagh typed a long post and then new pc and new faster broadband decided to configure updates and lose it all, never mind.

Came home to lovely dh making me a batch of sausage and egg muffins as he knew I'd run out and wanted them for breakfasts and he'd told ds I'd had a bad day so I was greeted at my car by ds offering to take my bag and make my lunch for tomorrow, bless. Now that's romantic enough for me, cheese and onion crisps are forgiven.

Today
vitamins
2 sausage nad egg muffins
spinach salad, tuna, anchovies, quail eggs, tomato, cucumber and vinaigrette
port salut, ementhal and salami snack
tarragon chicken with a mini souflee made out of left over sausage muffin mixture with spinach
lots of water
sunscreen
no wine, obviously
knackered, bed v v soon

Apologies for whinging earlier, saw Mb's thread afterwards and that doesn't half put it into perspective doesn't it?

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 16/06/2008 21:54

Blimey, how busy is this thread??

Good news about your Dad, Marina.

Sorry you're not feeling well Duchess, and that you've improved Fanella. Aw, how sweet www, and hope you're having a fab evening Enid.

TS, glanced at your profile whilst lurking on t'other thread, and your children are bloody gorgeous!

Not wishing to be competitive or anything but at least you can do midlife boredom with your DHs on a Saturday night - mine (and Saggars, and no doubt one or two others) seem to spend most Saturdays at work! Do know what you mean though.

Precis of article in the Guardian re cereal please?

Hope tomorrow doesn't drag out too much Saggars, and DD is ok. Hey, did you know that, allegedly, Trentham High parents are the most aspirational parents in the city ?

lol @ bee, that's soooo sweet

unknownrebelbang · 16/06/2008 22:01

I've got three little darlinks - all lads, 13, 11 and 9. Oh boy, it's loud in our house, lol.

  • Sunscreen yy.
  • No booze. Have found my achilles heel with alcohol - it's those rare occasions where we can walk home from wherever (I drive usually). As it's only about 3 times a year, I'm not worried, lol.
  • 2 mile hike plus, and the twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea. Positively tea-logged today.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - yy.
  • Go to bed early, midnightish.
  • Eat healthily. Yes.
  • Be happy. Not bad for a Monday, although the boys have irritated both of us enormously today.

The work situation from Friday is not resolved, but at least we have our deputy manager back at work. I don't usually whinge about managers, everyone has their job to do, but imo - and that of my colleagues - we were badly let down on Friday.

Prufrock · 16/06/2008 23:03

marina - so glad your Dad got through it. And part of the benefits of being old is being allowed to cheek the nurses
happy birthday to not so babyish minitortoise.

JJ - hospitalization of offspring is definitely good enough reason to fall off the wagon. Glad he's on the mend

www - is this the same bitch that you were going to see next Tuesday?

I've been feeling weird too - got all motivated and inspired by Richard Dawkins on my Ipod whilst walking the dogs this am (not quite the same as yours Marina), then had tears streaming down my face listening to a radio programme about letters written by dead soldiers, then hugely irritated at Hugo (my previously lovely new iMac) because he refuses to allow me to choose a dictionary in anything other than American English. If a bloody red line pops up under realise (There it is) one more time I will scream.

Prufrock · 16/06/2008 23:08

Sunscreen yes
No booze, gulping water as I type to get my 2l in
Long dog walk (even jogged some of it), session with Janice (only 2 to go before I have to stop - we boxed which made me feel better and her feel scared)
Body brushed, scrubbed and creamed. Hand cream and foot cream
Not in bed by 10:30
Granola and skimmed milk, 3 cups coffee, 2 cups peppermint tea.
Pasta salad and stuffed courgette for lunch - Carluccio's has just opened in town.
Apple
Lamb with pitta, houmous, peppers and pine nuts

bamamama · 17/06/2008 05:17

my my what a busy thread!

Marina - so glad all went well with your dad. Keep us updated on his progress.

Batters - happy anniversary, surely you're entitled to get rather plastered on such occasions?

JJ glad JJjnr is recovering well - are you due any good gifts if dh is in NY?

Enid - hope you had a great night out and feel a bit happier.

Fanella - hello there!

WWW - crying on the tube on Monday is not a good sign. Hope the rest of the week improves. It's not that long until December
Both myself and dh can get online at the same time now. This means our Saturday nights can be spent surfing/working...and to think we got rid of the TV to spend more 'quality time' together

Foo - nice to see you posting again.

DofNB - sorry to hear about your hip. Any better today?

Moonshine good luck on hardocre bootcamp (does that involve sticking to the rules? That would be pretty hardcore for most of us)

Sobernow - lol at misty eyed bee observations!

Well, I've put my back out so will be doing no walking or indeed exercising at all today. It's one of those lower back can't get comfy at all ones. Very annoying. Luckily, for the first time ever ds has put himself down for a nap so I get the chance to relax and finish off the banana bread. Also had half a bottle of wine with dh last night as he was back from his weekend jolly. I know we say this time and time again, but I can't believe how much better I feel without a glass of wine. You'd think I'd learn.

Anyway, will go off and do a bootcamp child tally now (as I was the one that asked)...

bamamama · 17/06/2008 05:28

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 17/06/2008 07:07

bootcamp children - yes to 2 DDs and 2 DSs - aged 6, 5, 3 & 3 weeks.

www - glad you had a nice evening.

sobernow - sorry about the emotional weepiness, perhaps you should go and drench your GP? You could offer a sou'wester to Doc to at least let them keep their hair dry.

My hip feels better this morning. DH despatched me to bed at 10pm. So I had a long, hot shower and then nearly 8 hours sleep and DH had Archie all night in another room. Separate bedrooms hardly counts as romantic but what woman wouldn't swoon at the Duke for that?

I now have an urgent appointment with the breast pump.

tortoiseSHELL · 17/06/2008 07:53

children - ds1 (7), dd (4), ds2 (2)

marina, hope your dad had a good night.x

DofNB - 8 hours sleep - wow! Glad your hip feels better.

www - hope you feel a bit more cheerful today, and no horrid work meetings!

unknownrebelbang -thank you!

Hello Fanella!

Marina · 17/06/2008 09:22

A Duke? Nay, a Prince amongst men! Glad you had a good night Duchess and that you are feeling better
Sobernow, I am definitely heading towards the Reichenbach Falls of my reproductive career too. It is making me ANGRY rather than sad at the moment - oh, no, sorry, that must be my life

Children - 1 ds and 1 dd, aged nearly nine and four respectively. We had a prematurely stillborn son in 2002, Tom.

Good bootcamp yesterday, lots of walking and water, generally good eating although towering PMS makes it shockingly hard to stick to my guns.

I LOVE Moonshine's Mantra: "couldn't give a f**k cos who cares about what the middle-aged woman who changes shape weekly wears". It's kind of a "Jesse's Fashion Tips" for bootcamp!

I too have been baring my calves (rotund but shapely) and my sanded and varnished toes in my lady librarian Clarks sandals, but as am cheapskate I am adorned with Dove gravy browning which does seem to work quite well. I even ventured into a large and blingy branch of New Look this morning but failed to spot the "No Old Trouts" sign on the door...

Have powerwalked today, am well stuck in to 1st litre of water, had welcome news that dad is sitting up in bed chugging tea and talking (a bit hoarsely), and even found time to scold a few students get some work done.

Thanks for all the support and interest in dad, it's been such a help

A good bootcamp to all today and hope all of us in the grip of looming sadness can dodge the clouds and stay in the sunlight (with appropriate SPF of course) today.

Iota · 17/06/2008 09:35

Day 12 of my captivity.

I am bored, lethargic and not sleeping well.

Gonna take the car round the block later and see how my ankle holds up.

Bootcamping - Null points

Happy bootcamping to the rest of you

and good news about your Dad, Marina and JJjnr getting his brain into gear

Happy vibes to Enid, WWW and anyone else who need them and a pox on all horrible/annoying work colleagues

Iota - is your ankle still troubling you? That's awful

Iota · 17/06/2008 09:41

Marina - only 30 days to go before I'm fixed - apparently

foothesnoo · 17/06/2008 09:57

Morning all - hard to keep up with this thread!

V virtuous yesterday, no wheat, no wine. Lots of salads and brown rice (which I adore, so doesn't feel like I am depriving myself at all). Feeling good today, partly because I stopped tinkering with work at the edges yesterday and threw myself into it, getting a lot done as a result.

Brilliant news about your Dad Marina - I lol at the blazer row - DH and I are having an ongoing skirmish re: a lost sweatshirt and school fleece...

Sobernow I have been laughing at you communing with nature - we have just got an allotment and have also started growning things in the garden and I LOVE it (but feel to admit it is the start of steady slide into horny-handed-daughter-of-soil status).

Am loving the sunny weather but hating finding appropriate clothing which treads that fine balance between mutton and over-cooked lamb.

Am at hairdressers later and am having hair cut SHORT! Attempt at gamine-ness, may end in tears......

I have two children by the way - ds 8 and dd5. Still think I could fit another in but DH tends to disappear into the garden to look soulfully at the shrubs when I mention this.

bundle · 17/06/2008 10:30

Enid · 17/06/2008 11:10

Sorry havent had time to read through this thread properly.

Marina - GREAT news about your dad
Sobernow - you perceptive old soul you . loving the Voltairean gardening.
www- hope you are feeling better today, more cheerful. Your thing about the crisps made me LOLOL.

I am having a WEIRD day - trying to sort out insurance after vile woman reversed into me in pub car park, wondering why someone has registered my details on Rightmove.com for houses in cornwall, feeling tired, expecting to feel miserable and low tonight when I am even more tired. Still, dd1 came third in the year 3 girl sprints in the local area athletics thing yesterday and she is on cloud 9 .

Drinking water - tick
body lotion - tick - have treated myself to Penhaligons Bluebell body lotion and the smell really cheers me up of a morning
Happy thoughts - plenty, but lots of sad ones too - feeling rather like someone has taken a layer of skin off - very vulnerable and weepy
exercise - non existent
feet buffing - non existent and needed

Food - ate lots last night, including lovely cheeseboard
