SOTD Penhaligon’s Cairo as I’m still working through my Trade Routes discovery set. Like the others, I’m reserving full judgment until I’ve had it on for an hour (only just put it on) but I have a feeling this set was made for me ❤️ I’m loving the warmth. Will report back on Cairo. Something to note on Halfeti from yesterday - I had a shower & REALLY scrubbed my wrists. I could still smell it 😂 it’s lucky I love it

Lurkingshark · 07/12/2024 13:02

Naxos by xerjoff (sp?). Reminds me of something else and smells expensive! And slightly sweet. I treated the rest of the supermarket to my lovely wafting fragrance 😁

QueefofSheena · 07/12/2024 13:03

Thanks for the new thread @fivebyfivebuffy

SOTD is PDM Delina. I wore it out last night too and I’d forgotten how much I liked it.

Howmanyroses · 07/12/2024 13:12

My samples from Small Aromas have arrived this morning, yay! I've just tried Gris Charnel and really like it :) I've also sprayed Ambre Maquis by Bastide on the other wrist and I think I am in love. It's so ambery and almost chocolatey and so very comforting.

Do you keep a list of all the perfumes you want to try then do a big sample order? What size samples do you get?

I track them on a spreadsheet and give each one a score out of 10, but considering keeping track on fragrantica or sniff, as recommended here. I am after the next signature scent, but at this rate I think it's going to end up more like a library! :) I just get 1-2ml samples - I know what I like or don't like after just a few sprays, but generally wouldn't buy anything more than 10ml unless I really love the fragrance

happytobemrsg · 07/12/2024 13:48

Well, Cairo is lovely. I can see this discovery set is going to bankrupt me. In order of preference so far:

Halfeti & Babylon tied
Cairo
Empressa

Babylon will 100% be my next buy

happytobemrsg · 07/12/2024 13:50

@Howmanyroses Do you know the notes etc that you already like? I suspect that would help narrow down what to buy samples of. Do you ever buy full bottles?

MiaN · 07/12/2024 13:57

Naxos imo is masterpiece

I know what i don't like, so oud and ambregris don't seem to agree with me. I don't like anything too cirtrus forward, aquatic or overly sweet. I tend to gravitate towards modern chypres, but not opposed to a gourmand fragrance if it's not too in your face iykwim. Tend to go for ambre, rose, patchouly, wood, vanilla and more recently tea and coffee notes. It definitely helps to narrow down what I may or may not like, but I often get surprises, so it's not a foolproof method

happytobemrsg · 07/12/2024 16:23

That’s really interesting @Howmanyroses

Mackemlass79 · 07/12/2024 16:25

I found u all again was wondering why I wasn't getting any notifications from the thread anymore. My SOTD Was some floral scent or other not even sure but I know it's from a small set I was given several yrs ago from fraganard

Notsosecrethistory · 07/12/2024 17:22

Thanks for the new thread!
SOTD - sample of Un Bois Vanille - I was so sure it would be perfect, but I don't like it on me at ALL. My perfect vanilla search continues.
Got a sample of Dear Polly and it reminds me so much of something, but I can't place what...

Lurkingshark · 07/12/2024 17:45

MiaN · 07/12/2024 13:57

It’s so interesting! I can smell complexity and it smells expensive IYSWIM. And long lasting. I remember you liked it @MiaN . The sweetness is one of the nicest dry down sweetness.

AprilLady · 07/12/2024 18:42

Thanks for the thread. SOTD is Ex Nihilo Brompton Immortals.

@Notsosecrethistory i like Une bois vanille a lot, but it’s certainly not a typical vanilla.

nearly61 · 07/12/2024 19:28

Thank you for the thread. SOTD is the absolutely gorgeous, for me anyway, Bibbi The Other Room. There is such division on this though on the Liberty thread, which makes for interesting reading. Most people, me included, pick up a powdery floral scent with a slightly woody background. I happen to adore that kind of scent but can also appreciate that others may not, it can veer into old lady territory quite easily (which should, given my user name, concern me but doesn't). Anyway, I'm really enjoying it, thank goodness.

paristotokyo · 07/12/2024 19:34

Thanks for new thread! Todays sotd is nest Madagascar vanilla. Keep the rollerball in my bag so it's for those days I don't want to think too much about it. An easy wear as it's not a very strong scent but quietly warm and comforting on a very grey day

OvaHere · 07/12/2024 19:44

Joining the new thread although I'm a bit rubbish at remembering to put perfume on. I need to up my game because I have a few larger bottles to get through and a load of sample sizes.

Today I did remember and I'm wearing the new Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmallow. I bought a 10ml size during BF week because I was curious. I like it a lot more than I thought I would and might consider getting a larger bottle at some point.

It's sweet but not too sweet and does manage to smell like real marshmallows not the overly artificial smell. It also has an undertone of something less sweet that balances it out a bit.

I have a sample of that in my maybe drawer.. sounds like I should give it a try.

IDontHateRainbows · 07/12/2024 21:34

Scent of the evening is Vyrao Witchywoo. Always been on the fence with this one and now decided I really don't like it.
Have ventured into the world of dupes, bought a mojave ghost inspired perfume oil for only ,£8.50 in an attempt to prolong the longevity of the edp. I thought even if its nothing like it , only £8.50 and if it's a bit similar it may help used alongside the edp.

I did try the real oil, but the rollerball was pretty crappy and barely any oil came out, and the scent was very weak. So it went back.

This thread is encouraging me to put perfume on every day, hopefully it does for you too!

Bourbonxo · 07/12/2024 22:00

Stayed in today because of the storm and am wanting to use up some of my older fragrances because I bought a few new ones during Black Friday. So I just wore Black Opium by YSL.
