I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

@Millymollymine I’d be interested in the others. I resold xerjoff Naxos from a calendar- it was too intense and big for me and reminded my husband of Joop. I keep meaning to go smell others.

SOTD will be Meno Irish leather or Black Saffron aby byredo. The latter was my choice from the discovery box which had a voucher. I’m convinced it less long lasting than the sample.

TheLongRider · 15/02/2025 07:53

I tried BDK Velvet Tonka yesterday. I wanted almond marzipan and it certainly delivers, but all but disappeared 3 hours later. I'm not usually one for respraying. I'm not sure it's full bottle worthy.

It would work well on top of L'Occitane's almond shower oil and body cream as a matching scent to extend its wear.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/02/2025 08:14

I love Velvet Tonka. It's strong at first but yes may need reapplying although they all do on me. BDK is an amazing house. 312 St Honore and Rouge Smoking are fantastic too.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/02/2025 10:29

SOTD is Versace Bright Crystal. Didn't expect to like this but it's very uplifting.

MiaN · 15/02/2025 15:55

I have Lira, love it

fromthevault · 15/02/2025 16:42

Serge Lutens 5 o click au gingembre today. I have a cold and it's v comforting!

potplantsinparadise · 15/02/2025 21:11

Jo Malone Hinoki and Cedarwood. SO LOVELY. Like being inside a big cedar chest with a blanket.

MiaN · 16/02/2025 14:21

Zara apple juice intense. Lovely but bit very lasting. another hair care type soft fuity floral. I like it

TheLongRider · 16/02/2025 14:50

Matiere Premiere Radical Rose. Rose-chouli with jammy dark rose scent. I don't like Portrait of a Lady but I do like rose but somehow this isn't scratching my rose itch. The rose seems to be too forward and I could do with a touch more incense that's supposed to be in there. It's certainly long lasting but my rose hating husband would probably object to it being a daily scent.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/02/2025 19:23

With you on the matiere premiere tonight @TheLongRider - this time for me it's Bois D'Ebene. I'm in love - this is all I want in a fragrance - woody, slightly spicy but not harsh. Dammit I don't need yet another matiere premiere to fall in love with but here I am. This is fast becoming my fave house - not as predictable as BDK and I find the scents quite polarising, some I love love love others I can't stand. But on the 'love' list is vanilla powder, parisian musc, crystal saffron (sometimes!) and now this.

As for radical rose, I tried it but I don't generally like rose fragrances so my lack of appreciation for it is probably more me than the scent. I couldn't stand french flower, so don't think I'm a fan of Aurelien's florals. The vanilla and more spicy ones I adore though.

TheLongRider · 16/02/2025 19:39

@IDontHateRainbows I've had a shower and now I have BDK Wood Jasmine in my other wrist. I think DD might be the beneficiary of the Radical Rose sample.

Wood Jasmine seems to be either love or hate according to the reviews on Fragrantica. I did a curious one spray and thankfully the jasmine isn't too prominent but so far it's dried down to a pleasant woody perfume. I'll try it again over the next few days.

IDontHateRainbows · 17/02/2025 08:46

Spicy, oudy day for me today - Byredo Mumbai Noise with Montale Rendez Vous Chez Harrods. The latter is a bit sweeter, to balance out the mumbai noise.

Lurkingshark · 17/02/2025 12:01

SOTD Aldi dupe blackberry and bay by Jo malone. About as long lasting but not quite so well done. Something off on the bay / Woodsy note.

MiaN · 17/02/2025 14:51

Elegantly Tokyo. I have not felt like wearing this for at least year and I am not sure I like it but for some reason hesitant to get rid of it. There is something spring like that I like but maybe the oud is bothering me.

IDontHateRainbows · 17/02/2025 22:05

Mat Prem Parisian Musc this evening, blended with DS and Durga Debaser.
Works well together. Figgy, but creamy

IDontHateRainbows · 18/02/2025 08:28

Another blend this morning - DS Durga Radio Bombay with Floral Street sweet almond blossom. I forgot I had the almond blossom on and then sprayed myself liberally with the radio bombay and it works well together.

We are nearly at the end of 40 pages time for a new thread?

Magpiecomplex · 18/02/2025 08:59

BDK Velvet Tonka sample today. I like it on paper but on me I'm getting pure newly opened pot of plasticine.

Magpiecomplex · 18/02/2025 09:26

Sorry, Play-doh, not plasticine! Same difference.

IDontHateRainbows · 19/02/2025 08:00

My nose has inexplicably swapped from craving spicy deep gourmands to fresh citrussy scents....a sign that spring is approaching?

Bal d'afrique today, I also have a sample of Gypsy Water which I may try later.

IDontHateRainbows · 19/02/2025 10:38

Loving the Gypsy Water. Strange as when I tried it before I found it too astringent. I was into the heavy gourmands then though. This is why it never makes sense for me to buy a full bottle. I'm far too fickle.

I'll start a new thread as this one is full

OvaHere · 19/02/2025 11:12

Tried Kayali Deja Vu White Flower to work yesterday. First time using it from the edit I bought last year. Was pleasantly surprised, it's a nice office friendly scent and lasted well for Kayali as they can be hit and miss with longevity.

MiaN · 24/02/2025 07:12

I am loving Penhaligon's The Favorite this time of the year. My only problem is the longevity (and price!). I have 10 ml from their advent, and plan to use it few days this week.

I read somewhere - spring florals, summer citruses, fall fruit, winter vanilla/oud/wood and I kind of get it. Of course there are many that can be worn all year round, and anyone can wear whatever you feel like - but February/March I love fresh/springy floral with little bit of green hint.

IDontHateRainbows · 24/02/2025 08:18

I'm sad to announce that due to overspraying / over use of perfume I seem to have given myself dermatitis - getting very sore and itchy patches on my hands where I usually spray so it's time for a re set I think! I never thought being into perfume would have health implications as such , I thought it was a pretty benign addiction but I was wrong. Never had problems with my skin before but I seem to have some sort of reaction going on and it's very very itchy! Going to give it a rest for a while, or maybe just spray on clothing/cloth if I get withdrawal symptoms.

TheLongRider · 24/02/2025 15:32

@IDontHateRainbows I have the same issue with some perfumes, usually very floral perfumes bring me out in a rash. In my case it can last for up to two weeks before it disappears. Using a small amount of hydrocortisone cream helps with the itch and sometimes taking an antihistamine. I usually try new perfumes with extreme caution and will only test on skin rather than paper. My skin is not picky as to whether a perfume is cheap or expensive, Zara perfumes cause reactions in the same way as Penhaligons.
