I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

Gris Charnel is my newest favourite go to for winter months. Yes I do think it's like milky slightly sweet spicy tea, and I really like that somehow remains to feel fresh.

I am not sure which one will be my favourite winter/grown up vanillas yet.
I had 9ml of Ginger Biscuit last year- I thought once I am done I am done but i end up getting full bottle. Sometimes I put perfume on, I love the first hour but can't handle it after 5. This one, I appreciated more with time as I enjoy for the full day and it never feels too much (I don't overspray).

BDK Amber Vanille - I have not had many full days, need to test more. It has some floral notes, feels little powdery. I will likely warr this longer part of the year, vs Ginger Biscuit has bit of October to Christmas vibes. I have 10ml. I only discovered it from sample set so the 10ml is next step.

Penhaligon's Babylon - so good! I have 10ml from advent and as of now, don't plan to buy full bottle but it has the potential. I have used 30% already and I only have it month or two so it gets love.

Queen of The Night The Merchant of Venice - I have 10ml from Harrods advent and it is my favourite from the advent. It has date night vibe to my nose, the 10ml will last me long time. It's slightly incensy, deep vanilla that I also need to wear morem before deciding.

I like having the 4, I don't need 4 full bottles. I feel when it comes to deep winter vanillas - either of the above 4 may end up my favourite, I need more time to decide.

Babycat is one that is very hyped but I did not like as much but if you are after that type you may want to sniff test.

happytobemrsg · 10/12/2024 13:42

@MiaN I can see why you don’t need any full bottles when you have 4 in rotation. I tend to only have one or two for the whole year! But I’m enjoying having a bit of variety at the moment. I’m finding it really easy to decide- yes I like that, but I’m happy with a sample size.

Bourbonxo · 10/12/2024 14:36

I finally used up Black Opium so I've opened one of the newer ones I bought recently - Diptyque Orpheon. It's a powdery woody sort of scent with some juniper berries. At first I didn't understand it but I sampled it a few times and it really grew on me to the point I couldn't get enough. Doesn't really smell like anything I have sampled before.

paristotokyo · 10/12/2024 15:56

Escentric molecules 01. I know this one's a bit contentious given some people can't smell it but it's really lovely on me. Really hard to describe but I'd say slightly sweet and woody. It's not over powering at all and at times I think it's faded but then randomly I'll catch a waft of it on myself. The ultimate skin scent. I have a tiny sample of the 01+mandarin but wasn't as keen on it. I tested 05 in the shop and liked that one even more, but no more purchases for me for now.

Ensconcedinvelvet · 10/12/2024 16:25

I just wanted to chime in as a newbue because I am seeing a number of vanilla recommendations but none with my SOTD on which is a vanilla-y beaut. It's Tobacco Toscano from Santa Maria Novella. It is so warm, luxe and classic. We've got tobacco and leather and that lovely sweetness!

Magpiecomplex · 10/12/2024 17:31

Ã…nd BÃ¥re today. I love the gourmand quality of what should by rights smell of loo cleaner, but really doesn't!

Lurkingshark · 10/12/2024 18:19

I’m in an airport snd been smelling everything! Any airport only recommendations?

IDontHateRainbows · 10/12/2024 19:17

SOT evening is byredo mojave ghost absolu. This has definitely grown on me and my 5ml from Scented Samples is nearly gone. I have another sample on its way. Wasn't sure about the fruity/ sweetness of it before but there's something addictive about it that means I can't stop sniffing it.
Damn you Byredo! Up there with drug pushers!

TheLongRider · 10/12/2024 19:33

Nasomotto Duro - definitely masculine, someone on Fragrantica said it evokes calm mafia boss. It's woody, spicy leathery, quite wearable but strong enough, do not overspray! I like it but I wouldn't buy a full bottle.

fivebyfivebuffy · 10/12/2024 20:26

Zara - a pastry in Paris today. Smells like lemon tart with sugar

SOTD was Verticaloud, a small bottle from an edit. I liked it once it had dried down but wouldn’t purchase. This evening it’s Ylang Ylang Nosy Be, which I’m loving so far. I’ve only got a 2ml so I’ll be using it sparingly.

happytobemrsg · 10/12/2024 11:41

@MiaN Thats exactly whet I did before I bought Halfeti. I sprayed it on in store then carried on shopping. I went back a couple of hours to buy it after I knew for sure that I loved it. Regarding your vanillas, I absolutely LOVED Babylon. After the first hour, the warm vanilla really came through for me and it was really comforting. Do you prefer the one you are wearing today (BDK)? Why is that? I might put it on my list of samples to try.

@IDontHateRainbows I’ve heard Gris Charnel mentioned quite a lot on this thread. Seems very popular! Is it one of your favourites?

@Howmanyroses funny how some perfumes need a few wears! Is the ginger really strong? Is that the main note? I don’t like eating ginger biscuits so I don’t know if that would put me off 😂

SOTD - Halfeti. After wearing a few others in my Trade Routes set I missed this one. It already feels signature scent worthy to me. Like coming home. Can I ask - do you think it can be worn all year round? Or cold weather only?

Ginger biscuit smells just like gingerbread at first, but settles into a more warming buttery caramel scent with some vanilla. It's hard to describe, it reminds me a bit of chai as well because of the spice. It's a very nice perfume, but wouldn't recommend blind buying a full bottle

Howmanyroses · 10/12/2024 21:27

This thread is going to bankrupt me! there are so many great recommendations I am tempted by

IDontHateRainbows · 10/12/2024 21:35

Lots of Gris charnel 10ml sprays on ebay at the moment as it was in one of the ACs, think HN, if anyone is interested in trying it. Seen them for £20 -25. Reasonable considering the price of the full bottle.

OvaHere · 10/12/2024 21:36

Today's scent was Kayali Invite Only Amber. This is my favourite Kayali scent but I'm using it sparingly as I only have 10ml and it's been out of stock everywhere for a while.

CorneliaStreet · 10/12/2024 21:55

SOTD was Shay & Blue Tallulah’s Camellia. It’s an easy to wear white floral but, like all the Shay & Blue fragrances I’ve tried, the longevity isn’t good.

This evening I’m wearing Phlur Vanilla Skin body mist.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/12/2024 06:54

Has anyone tried Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder? Got it in liberty scent.kit and was going to try it out but very mixed reviews so now thinking to sell it, but wondering if anyone on here is familiar with it.

Debating my SOTD, the most exciting part of getting ready in the morning!

MiaN · 11/12/2024 07:05

Me too, re debating the scent of the day. I am busy in work and really moody and I need something that feels fresh and uplifting

MiaN · 11/12/2024 07:07

I have not tried vanilla powder but the notes are interesting. I recall smelling it in store and I thought much nicer then I expected bit I only smelled it from the bottle and I remember going off coconut on it

IDontHateRainbows · 11/12/2024 07:31

Sotd today is a flop... tried Hermetica Verticloud and I think I'm gonna have to wash it off, not my thing at all.

Ah well I'm still relatively new to all this and working out what I like/ don't like and experimentation is part of the game. This was only a small sample from a kit so no great loss.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/12/2024 07:34

Replaced with Etro Udaipur. This is warm spicy, hints of black tea and florals but relatively light and fresh. The PP looking for a summer oriental may like it.

MiaN · 11/12/2024 08:43

Bal D'Afrique for me today. I need it

IDontHateRainbows · 11/12/2024 09:05

Maybe I need to try it in store. Apparently it lasts forever, so difficult to get rid of/ wash off if you don't like it.

AprilLady · 11/12/2024 09:46

SOTD is Hermés Ambre Narguile. Beautiful cosy scent of cinnamon, honey, caramel, rum, apparently some tobacco though it doesn’t really come through strongly for me. This has some similarities to Angels Share, though it was around long before it.

I am planning a stop at their store in London when I go next month. I will be sure to try this one.

@IDontHateRainbows vanilla poster is a power house. It stuck to dp even after a shower. It’s nice. But, in all honesty I think it smells more lemony and coconutty than vanilla. Still undecided on it. But not had chance to wear test it, myself, yet.
