I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

This morning was hard work! Received a sample of Artemisia from Penhaligon’s so I gave that a go. I hated it pretty much immediately. Not for me at all. Scrubbed that off.

So then I tried Constantinople. Loved the smell of this. I got fruity, candy notes despite it not containing any fruit 😂 But I got a headache quite quickly afterwards. It may have been the pink pepper as I had tried a Jo Malone Loves perfume with pink pepper which did the same thing. So I scrubbed that off too.

Then I went back to my Empressa sample. Going to my eldest’s Christmas concert so thought something light would be good. It’s very nice, just not love. Missing Halfeti from yesterday. Was feeling hormonal & it was very comforting.

Replaced with Etro Udaipur. This is warm spicy, hints of black tea and florals but relatively light and fresh. The PP looking for a summer oriental may like it.

Oooh I’ll have a look at this

SOTD is Hermés Ambre Narguile. Beautiful cosy scent of cinnamon, honey, caramel, rum, apparently some tobacco though it doesn’t really come through strongly for me. This has some similarities to Angels Share, though it was around long before it.

This sounds delicious!!

Ensconcedinvelvet · 11/12/2024 13:59

@hughiedoesntfight oooh i didn't realise they had a store in London! I just got mine online but I tried it on originally in this amazing store in Zurich full of old wooden framed glass cabinets that looked like it hadn't changed since the 1800's.
I also loved the smell of their korean pine one, something I would never usually prick my ears up about but the lady insisted I tried it and it was beautiful. I never bought it though.

paristotokyo · 11/12/2024 16:24

Veronica Gabai noire de mai. Always thought I didn't like rose in fragrances but then I come across something like this and it wins me over. Really nicely blended. A sexy grown up fragrance, perfect for date night.

CorneliaStreet · 11/12/2024 17:12

I’ve always wanted to try Amber Narguile, sounds right up my street.

SOTD was Kayali Vanilla 28. For the evening I’ve gone for Next Cashmere and it’s freezing here so I’ll probably put on something super gourmand at bedtime, maybe SDJ Cheirosa 71.

I love this perfume too - it's beautiful and very elegant!

YSL Babycat for me today

IDontHateRainbows · 11/12/2024 18:32

The sana jardin discovery set arrived, whilst I tried very hard to like the tiger by her side I don't think it's a keeper, I don't think Frankincense or patchouli are for me unfortunately.

OK to try as a sample, all part of the fun.
Will try vanilla nomad tomorrow as I'm going through a vanilla- curious phase.

Stowickthevast · 11/12/2024 19:06

I was wondering why I hadn't seen this thread and then realized there was a new one - bit slow on the uptake!

I've been enjoying the Serge Lutyens discovery set particularly Amber Sultan which is great on the cold weather and also Santal Majuscule. I'm saving some for Spring.

Not as impressed by the Space NK fragrance calendar - Spoilers ahead for anyone who is saving it for the 12 days of Christmas.

I've been opening it on alternate days and there have been so many skin scents - I'm really not a fan. Escentric molecules, Glossier You, Juliette has a gun and something I'd never heard of called Extra Milk by Dedcool. They do Nothing for me. Annoyingly I've sprayed them all once but maybe can sell as a used bundle on eBay. Hoping there will be at least one thing I like.

happytobemrsg · 11/12/2024 19:07

@IDontHateRainbows I got the dispatch email for my Sana Jardin discovery set today. I’m very excited to work through it!

Today confirmed that Empressa will not be on my “To Buy” list. It doesn’t last as long as the others on me & it just doesn’t draw me in.

fivebyfivebuffy · 11/12/2024 19:08

I've been sniffing in boots
Rock candy - meh. It's just not for me, I like the initial spray but not the dry down
No marshmallow to sniff
Ariana love notes - couldn't smell it! Handed the strip to the helpful assistant who said "no I can't either"
REM Ariana - LOVE. I really like this

@Stowickthevast despite finding it very hard to resist any fragrance calendars or kits, I didn’t get the SpaceNK one precisely because of all the skin scents. I am anosmic to ISO E Super and the like, so they do absolutely nothing for me.

Howmanyroses · 11/12/2024 21:14

I am working through the Penhaligon's bestsellers scent library and today trying on the Coveted Duchess Rose. Really nice fresh rose scent at the beginning, but no longevity, though interesting that when sprayed on skin it turned into a musky/woody scent, while on the jumper it remained a rose scent. I am not overly impressed with this set, because of the lack of longevity. The fragrances are quite nice, but nothing more than that. Halfeti being the possible exception, but seeing as I don't like oud, I think I won't be looking to purchase a full bottle from this brand

mdinbc · 11/12/2024 22:05

I'm a one bottle at a time person; my winter fragrance is Devotion by D&G. It's a soft vanilla/floral gourmand, which is cosy for this time of year.

happytobemrsg · 11/12/2024 22:43

@mdinbc That sounds lovely

@Howmanyroses I’ve been really impressed with the longevity of the fragrances in their Trade Routes discovery set but they all have a similar vibe to Halfeti so might not be for you. Maybe check out their scent profiles and see if there are enough without oud

Lurkingshark · 12/12/2024 03:53

@Stowickthevast I ended up choosing the HN over the Space NK partly for that. I also smelt all the dedcool stuff and not impressed! .

I have been opening SNK randomly and it’s been good. Generally I have sold some bits with a few sprays out of it quickly.

A colleague mentioned it to me. I didn’t know either. We have an office near St James square which is (according to colleague) not too far. I have an early meeting so going there then spending the rest of my day shopping.

hughiedoesntfight · 12/12/2024 07:00

I am going to get Ds off to school shortly then have a shower. So I have put on Simon’s nest campfire apples and lush turmeric latte on to see how they go together. I actually quite like it at the moment. Might get a bit sickly though.

I am wfh today so going to go cozy scent. Not sure whether it will be Blu indaco or angel dust. Or maybe vanilla 28. Depends on how I feel when I get out of the shower.

MiaN · 12/12/2024 07:56

Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit today

I understand that longevity is problem but generally speaking oud perfume will smell much longer then feshie. As I like freshies, accepting that they will not last as long is part of being able to enjoy them. I wouldn't pay 200 euro for perfume that lasts 1 hour, but some compromise like lasting 2/3 and lower cost

IDontHateRainbows · 12/12/2024 08:27

Tried the Sana Jardin Vanilla Nomad. Hmm not sure. It's got a herbal, almost medicinal vibe to it. Reminds me of those herbal cough sweets! Blended with vanilla of course. Only put it on a few mins ago so maybe it will grow on me on the dry down. But for now - interesting, but not a keeper.

IDontHateRainbows · 12/12/2024 09:06

I will say the sana jardin discovery kit is excellent value at £24 for 9 minis. I got it for 21 with code. Just hope I like a few of them!

MiaN · 12/12/2024 09:33

I didn't enjoy that sample kit myself, but want to test few in warmer weather. The one I kind of liked vanilla nomad made me feel off in few hours.

MiaN · 12/12/2024 10:28

Spoiler alert related to SpaceNK Fragrance.

I sold the bellow for the total of 108 euro. I love Mojave ghost but I already have few of the minis and 100 ml - the rest I did not like.
Glossier You Eau de Parfum 8ml, Maison Margiela Lazy Sunday Morning EDT 7ml, Dedcool Xtra Milk Eau de Parfum 50ml, DS & Durga I Don’t Know Perfume Oil 10ml, Byredo Mojave Ghost 8ml

Gifted two to a friend
Malin + Goetz Leather Eau de Parfum 50ml, Boy Smells Hinoki Fantome 10ml

Two to my son
Escentric Molecules Escentric 04 8.5ml, Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 8.5ml

Trying to figure out what to do with three more - not my vibe at all
Floral Street Wonderland Peony 10ml, Phlur Vanilla Skin Body Mist 88ml and Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume EDP 5ml

So what did I keep and how much did it cost me - I paid 167.23 euro as I had some points, I sold items worth 108 euro, I gifted few and I will get rid of few more.

All of the bellow cost me 59.23 euro

Happy with the candle and I will use the oil in room diffuser.

Happy with
Diptyque Eau Rose Eau de Toilette 7.5ml, Jo Loves Jo By Jo Loves A Fragrance Parfum 10ml, Vyrao Witchy Woo 7.5ml

Happy to try
Juliette Has a Gun Juliette EDP 5ml

30ml perfume candle and lovely oil for my diffuser - I don't feel hard done by at all. But my initial assessment was correct, this is not the advent for me and if it wasn't for sales and gifts not great purchase.

MiaN · 12/12/2024 10:35

Penhaligons advend was hit with only the ornament that went to the bin, out of the full 24 days we liked it. Shared by 3 of us.

For the others I have done similar analysis and in similar manner - with sales great deal, between 3 of us Harvey Nichols was favorite, Harrods very close to it and Space NK not much love but no regrets either.
