Ginger biscuit for me today

I'm eyeing up lush Chelsea morning, anyone tried it? I blind buy 95% of my scents and this seems like one I'll love!

I have. I didn’t like it. I found the butterscotch smell over powered it and was far too sweet and a bit cloying for my taste.

I found it a bit sickly.

Smelled in the shop and have same option

Thanks for the new thread.

Having a self care day, dying hair and using all my lotions and potions. SOTD - Angels Share again, it seems to be my favourite currently and feels very indulgent.

fivebyfivebuffy · 08/12/2024 14:52

Sickly and sweet is right up my street so that's helpful!
My manager says I smell like a bakery most of the time. I'm banned from wearing my golden syrup perfume as it makes him hungry BlushGrin

I track them on a spreadsheet and give each one a score out of 10, but considering keeping track on fragrantica or sniff, as recommended here. I am after the next signature scent, but at this rate I think it's going to end up more like a library! :) I just get 1-2ml samples - I know what I like or don't like after just a few sprays, but generally wouldn't buy anything more than 10ml unless I really love the fragrance

So organised 🙂 Which ones have you given 10 to so far ? Need some recommendations!

Ah it might be for you then.

I do like quite sweet ones and my current favourite is quite sweet and bakery like (Blu Indaco). But tend not to go for very very sweet. Which is why it might not be for me. But sounds like it could be something you would love!

That’s why I love talking about perfume. Something I don’t like might be a great recommendation for someone else. And vice versa!

happytobemrsg · 08/12/2024 15:21

SOTD is Constantinople. Doesn’t smell very special to me. I’m not getting much as I go through my day & I'm not wanting to sniff my wrist all the time. So this one is not for me. I find it a bit boring.

@IDontHateRainbows Ianthe Oud has arrived, thank you! Looking forward to trying that tomorrow 😬

DH has bought me another perfume for Christmas (basically to shut me up 😂) & I’ve promised him no more perfumes until the summer. So instead I’m going to focus on sampling & reaching warm weather fragrances.

Knowing that I love Halfeti, Babylon, JM Velvet Rose & Oud perfumes, spice, warmth & vanilla, are there any summery perfumes you’d recommend?

paristotokyo · 08/12/2024 15:54

So trying out Hera Reigns first and I really like this! @IDontHateRainbows I remember you loving this on the other thread. Definitely for someone who likes oud forward scents though. Was unsure about it initially due to the white florals but it's nicely blended. Actually think it will smell amazing on DH though so intrigued to get him to try.

Thank you :) MiaN is the real expert on this thread though.. Here is my top 6 so far -
Ambre Maquis Bastide Aix en Provence, 9.4
BDK Gris Charnel, 9
Parfums de Marly Delina 9.2
Byredo Lil Fleur 8.5
Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka 8.5
Hermes Barenia 8.4

As you can see, no 10s yet. I really love ambre, rose and vanilla but they have to be quite subtle. Perfume is so personal but that's the beauty of it - we are all so different, so my recommendations might not be the right ones for you

I have heard Tiger By Her Side but Sana Jardin fits that brief and have it on order so will update in a few days when it arrives. Dunno if it's summery but definitely spicy and warm.

I am not I have ever given a perfume a 10.

My best all round best performer is Burberry goddess. It’s in my top 5 for scent. But also lasts well. Gets compliments and isn’t that over powering i can’t wear it in the office. and I can wear it all year round.

My top perfumes change from season to season. Currently I am rotating Fuggazi Angel Dust, GDT Blu Indaco, Dior Vanilla Diorama, Kayali Vanilla 28 and in between trying all the samples I have.

Jovoy Remember me has moved onto my wish list though.

Tonight I am trying out goldfield and banks sunset hour.

I have a big meeting tomorrow and trying to work out what sort of perfume to go for. Light and airy? Or more something like diorama. It’s a male dominated industry and don’t like wearing anything to feminine at these board meetings. But also, I want to be able to smell myself over the Creed Aventus and Aqua do Parma haze, from men in there.

Hera Reigns always makes me feel sort of regal - maybe go for that kind of vibe?

CorneliaStreet · 08/12/2024 20:16

@hughiedoesntfight Good to hear that about Burberry Goddess, I’ve sampled it a few times and have been really tempted to get a bottle. I might wait until I’ve finished my current bottle of Mon Guerlain though, as they seem quite similar to me. I think it’s the lavender/vanilla combo, which is one of my favourites (I also love Lush Sleepy).

IDontHateRainbows · 08/12/2024 20:26

Scent of the evening is Laura Mercier ambre vanille. A new one for me, quite like it. I'm usually a spritzer but this was a rollerball, in the space nk gift set. So a slightly gentler application. Good bedtime scent.

@Howmanyroses have you tried this one? Given that you said you love amber and vanilla I thought it would be right up your street

It's in the mail! I am very excited to try it :) Will report back once I receive my bottle - it does sound like something that would be my cup of tea

Orangeslemon · 08/12/2024 21:07

Lancôme La Vie est Belle Elixir for me this evening. It’s very fruity and sweet, I get mainly raspberry and some violet. Nothing like the original LVEB to me! I’m getting a set of Lancôme miniature perfumes for Christmas so looking forward to trying more from them.

That’s a good idea. I really enjoyed wearing it the other day.

MiaN · 09/12/2024 05:28

Amber Vanille Laura Mercier is not typical amber vanilla imo. It's not what I would imagine when I hear amber at all. To my nose is soft/sweet gourmand with clean vibes. When I hear amber, rightfully or wrong I imagine little more complexity/oomph. I wouldn't see typical amber fragrance as suitable to wear at night, vs to me amber vanille is just the perfect clean, soft sweet comforting scent to signal to me time to rest. Little beachy even.

I think amber in nature does not have scent, in perfumery it's made up term to describe if amber had scent what would that scent be. There is also trend to move on from calling perfumes oriental and use the term amber instead.

MiaN · 09/12/2024 06:07

Rating 1 to 10 is interesting as what would I rate them on?
Versatility - Naxos is masterpiece but also not crowd pleaser. I smell something different every time I smell it - sweet, smokey, citrus, medicinal - I have limited use for such perfume and wearing it is more experience than signature scent.
Longevity - Orange Sanguine - is fantastic fresh cut orange but longevity is poor.
Seasons - Bal D'afrique - if I can save only one from my collection this is the one I will be saving, but it is little too little when it's under 5 degrees out and I am spending time outdoors.

I tried to narrow down to 5 current favourites in my collection but can't. My favourite 10 if I must own only 10 and I feel if I can have 20 full size I can have perfect size collection. I have bit more than that and there is some repetition/redundancy in the citrus category.

1&2 Easy reach versatile for spring summer/Bal D'Afrique and fall winter - Gris Charnel. They will both work for me day and night in the relevant season.

3&4 Take me places picks - PDM Athalia/incense takes me to yoga studio. Oaui hair st Barts and body spray - takes me on beach vacation. I love yoga and the beach.

5&6 Fresh and clean - Arizona Bloom Floral Street (like warm skin after sea water swim, salty, slightly coconutty, so good) & Frederic Malle Acne Studios - shower fresh, laundry vibes at time.

7&8 citrus - Orange Sanguine Atelier Cologne - for fresh but sweet citrus & maybe Ingenious Ginger as it's my latest purchase. Ingenious Ginger that's bit ambery to my nose, it may appeal to someone who likes ambers but wants something for heat/warm weather. It has abit of a bite form ginger & amber notes.

9&10 shampoo fresh - Mojave Ghost, Chanel Change eau Tendre - soft fruity florals, I enjoy them and they tend to be more crowd pleasers then Acne Studios for example which can lean too clean.

I will be very sad leaving behind Clean Reserve clean, PDM Delina Rosee, Xerjoff LIra, Kayali Burning Cherry, Queen of the Night Merchant of Venice, Sea Salt and Wood Sage Jo Malone, BDK Vanille Leather and all atelier cologne perfume. But in reality the first 10 will suit my preferance and lifestyle. So while I venture to vanillas/gourmands in the coldest months I naturally gravitate to soft clean and fresh scents.

I am really surprised I didn't feel the need to include single Givenchy L'Interdit, considering I have most of the flankers.

@AprilLady could you narrow your top favourites to 10? you have fab collection of great perfumes I am curious to know.

MiaN · 09/12/2024 06:25

And it's not that I don't view Babylon, Naxos etc as fantastic - but they are bit like fancy hotel I visit and enjoy for limited period of time but isn't home. 10ml will do for them. I think buying sample first, 10ml after is great way to ensure you don't end up with too many perfumes you like and very few you love.

Anway, I am supposed to be out the door already but instead of this I am drinking coffee and chatting nonsense. :) I am going with PDM Delina La Rosee today - much to my surprise I feel like something fresh and pretty.

MiaN · 09/12/2024 06:33

I am thinking of swapping one of the shampoo fresh for either Wood Sage and Sea Salt Jo Malone for Goldfield and Banks Pacific Rock Moss. Or maybe taking out Arizona Bloom and taking in Pacific Rock moss. Pacific Rock Moss has potential to get in my top 10 but it's too new to my collection to be sure. Tough choice between having two salty fresh fragrances vs having two shampoo fresh fruity florals. Or maybe take out Chanel Chance eau tendre and take in PDM Delina Rosee. This time less redundancy, I will have floral fresh perfume in.

Choosing only 10 was though but I feel if I need to save 10, I have a plan for action.

MiaN · 09/12/2024 07:00

When I said amber not suitable at night I meant bed time. Its perfect for night out which I clearly need more of:)

For male dominated work meeting I would go something that is not too soft unisex like Gris Charnel, or salty fresh like Wood Sage Sea Salt JM or don't mess with me, I am strong type of like Le Labo 33.

IDontHateRainbows · 09/12/2024 07:42

Mojave ghost absolu for me today, over MG body lotion. This one is a grower for sure. Scented samples are doing decent sized samples of it, I can't afford the whole bottle and apart from the 2ml samples, byredo aren't offering it in anything smaller.

QueefofSheena · 09/12/2024 11:09

I wore Naxos on Saturday night. I enjoyed it, and there was something comforting about it while the wind was howling. I did find it quite strong so I’d have to pick my moments.

SOTD is Molecule 01 + patchouli from the CB Haul of Fame box. I like it more than I thought I would. I have memories of my sister smelling of patchouli and Afghan coats in the 70’s, this is much softer 😁

happytobemrsg · 09/12/2024 12:34

@MiaN whats your favourite floral summer fragrance?

SOTD is Halfeti Leather. The sun was shining when I woke up today & although I wanted something lighter I realised I don’t have many lighter perfumes that I loved. Ended up picking Halfeti Leather from my discovery set as I liked the description but it was a mistake I think. It’s too strong. I know it’s the same vibe as Halfeti but for me it’s missing the smooth spicy warmth in the dry down which makes me want to sniff it all day. DH liked HL but said it’s much too strong. Wondering if I can wash this one off (Penhaligon fragrances usually last forever on me) & go for Empressa again. This is the lightest in this collection so far.

I got mixed up yesterday. I was wearing (& not loving) Legacy of Petra, NOT Constantinople. I’m yet to try that one.

Please can someone recommend a lighter discovery set? I’m looking for longevity (Penhaligon’s have spoiled me), something floral/sweet but not sickly sweet which I can wear on a sunny winter or spring day.
