New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

Shoulders are usually the limiting factor for me, so if you’re a reasonably small-framed 20, or just aren’t built like you did a lot of swimming and rugby in your youth, lots of XL/18 probably worth trying. I send back clothes for being too big sometimes. Usually too big everywhere except shoulders/boobs.

IlovePond · 09/08/2024 19:01

Hi all, I popped into Shepton Mallet this pm. If anyone was after the Olive Apron dress in M, they have one in stock, likewise the Chore jacket in sizes 10&12. They had a lot more in than on my last visit, but I restrained myself as I had bought a dress there last week.

Here are some pics in case anyone is interested x

Thanks for the new thread @Countmeout Sorry I'm running a bit late - I've been away in North Norfolk for a week or so and there was no 4/5G whenever I thought to look at my phone and the wifi was laughable for the most part.

Off to look at the new items...

ScottishMouse · 12/08/2024 14:33

It’s quiet here. Hope everyone is enjoying some sun.
Summer holidays are over this week in Scotland, and the start of a new term always makes me feel the autumn vibes (this is my “new year” having worked in schools or academia all my working life). Has anyone tried the wool cashmere half sleeve sweater? Reviews suggest sizing up, but is this sizing up from old sizing or is it sizing up even in new sizing I wonder.
I have realised that when I started buying Toast sometimes even the smallest size was too big. Thanks to perimenopause, life, and Toast’s sizing shifts, I am now often buying the second largest size. 😮

Popplebop · 12/08/2024 17:08

@ScottishMouse not sure on the sizing but I am also eyeing up these jumpers - they look lovely. Even thought about them as I was lying in bed last night 🤣🤣. The problem I have is that for me to actually wear a wool cashmere top I need to be chilly... and these are half sleeves so would probably need a long sleeve under. (And if I was warm I might not want the high neckline. ) I have spent too much time thinking about them!

ScottishMouse · 12/08/2024 17:23

They do look great @Popplebop. I like all 3 colours but would probably go for navy as most wearable for me. I don’t mind the half sleeve, I always have my sleeves pushed up and can’t stand having things around my wrists, so I think I could make these work. Might have to try one soon.

Popplebop · 12/08/2024 17:35

@ScottishMouse I also like all three colours unfortunately my bank balance won't (at all). I am still thinking - do let us know if you buy one!

Snowyowl78 · 12/08/2024 17:43

@ScottishMouse @Popplebop i think they look smallish. I am also thinking about them and I would go for a Large. Usually a 12 in Toast. I think the half sleeve would work for me because I am never too cold, and they look thin to me. Tempted by the orange because I think it will look great with indigo. I also have a large number of blue jumpers so it would make them redundant if I got the Navy. Less wearable, but I’d wear it for the wow factor!

Snowyowl78 · 12/08/2024 17:56

@ScottishMouse @Popplebop theres some pictures on the Toast Harrogate Instagram of the orange one

ScottishMouse · 12/08/2024 20:48

I think I might also go for a L @Snowyowl78. I have a couple of the neat cashmere sweaters in M, but I wear them underneath shirts & pinafores and if I were to wear them on their own I would want them bigger. I’m guessing this may be a similar fit. If I am near the Edinburgh store this week, I will pop in and try one and report back.
The orange looks lovely in those pics. I saw it in store a while ago and it was a great shade of orange. I am a big fan of orange generally, but I have an orange sweater from years ago that still looks good, so I don’t need another. Navy, on the other hand, I can never have enough of.

ScottishMouse · 14/08/2024 15:37

@Snowyowl78 and @Popplebop i bought the navy half sleeve cashmere sweater in L. I tried the M but it felt a little too fitted, the L is a little roomy but not loose. I love the sleeve length and the neck. I wanted the navy to be deeper, but it is still great.

Stoic123 · 04/08/2024 11:02

@Zooeyzebra - not those ones. Have the Babbi Charentaise Slippers and they are my favourites of all time.

Many, many moons ago - maybe 15-20 years? - I had some Toast slippers that I truly loved. Super soft oxidated silver colour leather, with dark blue velvet inside, and they had a ballerina shape. I wore them to pieces, and have not seen any similar since then. Does anyone know if something like that exist anymore?

Snowyowl78 · 14/08/2024 15:54

@ScottishMouse thanks for the intel! I’m wondering if I might need the extra large! Glad you’re pleased with the Navy.

ScottishMouse · 14/08/2024 15:57

@Snowyowl78 i am generally 12 or M in new sizing if that helps. Though I have also bought/tried some tees in L lately - they seem very small in the last while.

Snowyowl78 · 14/08/2024 16:00

@ScottishMouse possibly the same as me then! I have also bought L’s in the T-shirts recently. Not in dresses or jumpsuits though where I have been a 12 or a M! I really don’t want a tight jumper. The only thing with me might be the shoulders might be half way down my arm in the XL. Perhaps I will try the large. I have moved countries now so I can’t do the multiple sizes dance!! Is it quite thin?

BettinaInDenmark · 14/08/2024 16:00

honeylou42 · 07/08/2024 15:26

As a newby to toast, please can I ask is their sizing generous. I'm a size 20 and wondering if an xl would fit?

Depends on your body type...

I'm mostly a size 20, and quite short. Apple shape and top heavy.

Toast trousers in size 18 fits me, and if the waist is elasticated, I take a size 16/L. Mostly, my problem is what to do with all the excess material around my missing hips. I'm the type who never opens my trousers to pull them up ;)

A lot of Toast dresses are large on top, and will fit me well.

Shirts are a hit-and-miss. Oversized XL are good for me.

I have a gazillion Toast sweaters. Most of them are quite large in XL. Vests are not.

ScottishMouse · 14/08/2024 16:41

Yes it is quite thin @Snowyowl78 . More spring/autumn than winter I think.

MsDastardley · 14/08/2024 21:17

I’ve just bought a replacement for my patch pocket denim skirt. I bought a size up as it was a bit snug when I got it, and at the time the bigger size was out of stock. I think it’s also shrunk a bit too! A lot of the reviews mentioned the poor finish on top buttonhole, which I agree wasn’t good. The waist now fastens with two internal buttons, which are a bit tricky to fasten. I love that skirt, and wore it loads last winter.

I am a sucker for a nice denim skirt, and also bought the wrap round skirt in black. I like this a lot too. It’s neater in the waist than the patch pocket skirt, so might have to move the button slightly. Not a fan of wrap round usually, but this feels very secure. I like the slightly asymmetric front panel. It does feel very heavy though.

Unless there’s something new that catches my eye, that’s me done for this year…. I’ve got more stuff than I can wear.

mizu · 15/08/2024 08:39

@MsDastardley I'm going to take a look at that skirt in store. I too love a TOAST denim skirt, anything denim from there really. I have the patch pocket A line skirt which I wear loads at work.

I have had so many compliments about the patch pocket skirt. I think in terms of cost per wear, it's been a really good buy. My old one is in excellent condition, just a bit too snug now.

mizu · 15/08/2024 12:34

I tend to have to size up in TOAST skirts generally.

AvaGardens · 15/08/2024 23:10

@BettinaInDenmark ooh those slippers sound lovely, I do hope someone knows where to find similar, I'd like to know too.
After years and years of utility wear I'm interested in adding some softer, pretty pieces in interesting textiles, just to add a little more personality to the 'uniform'!
I recently took off the pockets of a Toast chore jacket for my daughter and replaced them with slightly distressed silk velvet, ready for autumn.
Very pleased with the result, will do one for me now.

IlovePond · 16/08/2024 11:58

Hi all,

Toast have put the dates for Exchange dates on their site for September-November. Unfortunately, all but one are on midweek evenings, (mostly Thursdays). I think there’s one in Llandeilo on a Saturday.

Also, you now have to book via Eventbrite in advance, (although who knows whether staff will bother checking), and there’s a ‘welcome drink’, (no doubt cucumber water or similar).

I understand Toast being more flexible with timings, but why put all these events on weekday evenings? (I wouldn’t have minded if they’d included a few late weekend times as well.)

I used to really like going to swapping events, (having only recently discovered them), but I can’t do weekday evenings in central London. I am quite fed up 😿

Off to eBay I go with my two lovely items I had been saving for the next swap…

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/08/2024 15:16

Sharing a bit of positivity for Toast customer services here. In May 2024 I bought some Leach Pottery mixing bowls for DH to give me as part of my birthday which is end of July. I didn’t check them when they arrived, just stashed them away for the big day in the box they came in.

On opening them on my birthday, two of the three bowls were badly cracked, only the smallest bowl remaining intact. I contacted Customer Services with photos and they promptly refunded and apologised so that I could buy them again (which I did): excellent and prompt customer services.

I thoroughly recommend the bowls, they are a work of art and look absolutely fab.

mizu · 17/08/2024 21:33

@IlovePond that's really annoying re the evenings. I'm going to google and check it out.

@ScottishMouse thank you so much for the Edinburgh info you gave last month on here. I'm currently here having driven DD1 up yesterday (a mere 7 hours)! I have thoroughly enjoyed moseying around today and spent some time down by TOAST around there.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I did not buy anything TOAST but enjoyed having a look around, the Cheltenham TOAST still not open but hoping for September.

I have walked almost 30,000 steps today!
