New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

Thanks @Countmeout

AFingerofFudge · 02/08/2024 07:56

Thanks @Countmeout - I got distracted and forgot about starting one!!

The only item I'm interested in so far in the new collection is the blouse underneath the hugely expensive pinafore, but it doesn't feature (yet) in its own right.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 02/08/2024 08:29

Thanks for the new thread @Countmeout . Not a lot in the new drop for me, I may buy the Chambray shirt as I do need a new basic shirt. Hopefully the easy fit means it won’t gape, although the buttons look widely spaced.

Chambray Cotton Shirt | Chambray

Chambray Cotton Shirt | Chambray

Our relaxed shirt is crafted in India from a cotton and linen chambray with a slubby texture. It is accented by large corozo buttons and cut to a swingy shape. Available in Chambray.

oddandelsewhere · 02/08/2024 09:08

Thank you @Countmeout . I've stayed away from here the last few days because I didn't want to be a grinch about the new drop! Sadly the colours aren't great for me and the seaweed cord dress which is a lovely colour would have to have longer sleeves. (I suppose a cord dress is for the autumn, but you couldn't wear a cardigan over those sleeves. )
Anyway, I bought a claret wool/lyocell top to wear under this season's black and white gingham crinkle dress in colder weather and I'm very pleased with it, and the bandana which came with it. Perhaps the next drop will have colours which work better for me.
@ScottishMouse did you iron your crinkle dress and did it work? I think they only become marginally less crinkly and definitely a better size/shape.

ScottishMouse · 02/08/2024 09:14

I did @oddandelsewhere. Just lightly as I was afraid of un-crinkling it. That didn’t happen, but I think it is still a touch smaller than before I washed it sadly. It was always neat on the bust but now it is a smidge too neat. I have packed it away for now, and will see how my gym going goes in the next while and decide whether it is worth hanging on to or whether to sell it on.

ScottishMouse · 02/08/2024 09:20

I am also in search of a plain shirt @Theteapotsbrokenspout but white/off-white. I recently ordered the stripe drawstring one (between sizes) and the Catrin Oxford easy shirt (the gathers on the shoulders make me look ridiculous). I am expecting the Elena tunic shirt and the linen oversized shirt in stone to arrive today. I worry that the Elena will be much too long on me (5’2”), and that the stone colour will wash me out. Does anyone have either?

faustina · 02/08/2024 10:02

So glad to see a new thread - thanks @Countmeout - no more waiting half an hour for the old one to load!

I think it's going to need to be a bit grey and cold before I can even start to imagine what I might need for the autumn

Bimblesalong · 02/08/2024 10:22

Thanks for the new thread @Countmeout

Thanks for the thread @Countmeout!

IlovePond · 02/08/2024 14:34

Thanks for the new thread @Countmeout

I am stuck in traffic on the way to Cornwall for a week. May not get to SM before closing at this rate. (DH and DDog are struggling to contain their disappointment!)

ScottishMouse · 02/08/2024 16:05

Hope you make it @IlovePond.

My order just arrived. The Elena shirt is even longer than I imagined. It comes to my knees at the back and looks ridiculous. The stone linen one is a good fit but the colour drains me. And, the navy Cleo tee I threw in is about 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the black & chalk ones I just bought. Why???

TosstTastic · 02/08/2024 17:05

Good timing @IlovePond , I'm just about to briefly leave Cornwall. You can waft around St Ives/Eden Project/Emmett Beach without fear of an outfit clash.

Spotted a tie apron dress in Morrisons Bude earlier....I was in Japanese workwear, embarrassment avoided.

QueenJaineApproximately · 02/08/2024 17:53

Thanks for the new thread @Countmeout 😀

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 02/08/2024 18:12

That’s a disappointment @ScottishMouse . It seems we’re all sending back more than we keep nowadays.

IlovePond · 02/08/2024 18:30

😹😹@TosstTastic

I made it @ScottishMouse but it was an awful journey! Now stuck behind yet another tractor on the way to Cornwall.

I bought a crinkle dress, (I think from the last sale). I really hope it doesn’t shrink on washing as it’s the right length now and a bit tight on the chest as it is. Does anyone have it? It’s the tiered crinkle cotton gauze dress. I would have sized up but they only had S or M and it was just too lovely to leave.

Stoic123 · 02/08/2024 18:34

@Countmeout - thanks for the new thread. Checking in.

Stoic123 · 02/08/2024 18:41

@MiracleToast - I remembered the Wool Cashmere Wrap discussion when I saw the two new colours. Pebble looks lovely but it isn't quite right for me - I am still holding out for a winter white.

I like the look of the Pumpkin one but, in the past, have been disappointed by orange-reds from Toast as, unlike the lovely bright blues, they always seem much more muted in real life.

Countmeout · 02/08/2024 19:26

@AFingerofFudge that blouse looks beautiful but likely to be £££££. The smocking is lovely. Toast seem to be doing some very stand out pieces, the embroidered waistcoat/jerkin is stand out. Slightly too memorable for me.

@Theteapotsbrokenspout yes that shirt may have some potential.

@Stoic123 I have the cashmere wrap in pumpkin from a few years ago. It was my first one. It’s probably what I would describe as rust but possibly one of my favourites. Agree the pebble is slightly too beige.

Thank you @Countmeout 🌻🌞

MiracleToast · 02/08/2024 22:52

@Stoic123 @Countmeout I will check out the pebble and hope that it works. Toast —winter white still desired please!

AvaGardens · 02/08/2024 22:59

@ScottishMouse I meant to reply to your question re boat neck items, but got distracted.
No answer sadly, the same thing happens to me too, they end up riding up over my neck.
I have 36c boobs and can only presume the wider neck opening allows for more movement and shifting instead of remaining in place!?
🤔

ScottishMouse · 03/08/2024 13:59

I dropped into the Edinburgh store this morning. Returned all my failed shirts, and bought the very overpriced linen cotton vneck tee with the buttons in cumin. It’s a great colour and a good fit for me, I hadn’t even looked at the price until I was at the till and then it was too late as I loved it.
But what I was really coming on to say is that I saw both colours of the new cashmere scarf being talked about. I was a bit disappointed by both, though I wasn’t looking to buy one. In contrast to the half sleeve cashmere jumper in burnt ember which has a depth to the colour, the pumpkin scarf felt a bit flat. Not as zingy as it could be. The pebble colour is actually a marled shade, which you can see when you zoom in closely online, but I thought that made it look a little cheap.

ScottishMouse · 03/08/2024 14:00

@AvaGardens I feel like for me it might be more to do with wide/rounded shoulders. It actually only happens with one boatneck tee I have, other boatnecks seem fine. But shirts are very frequently a disaster.

OftenOrange · 03/08/2024 14:01

@Countmeout Thanks for the new thread.
I thought the same about the embroidered waistcoat with vintage map (???) theme. Although I love the twist Toast give to basic items and the richness that the ethnic pieces bring to an outfit , the waistcoat is a bit too much of a good thing. And £££££ to boot !
