New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

Agree the style of that dress is perfect for hot weather @OftenOrange . I have it in the brown (Alder) version. Just works so well and washes like a dream.

In my search for the perfect pull on and go ( but weather here poor) I’ve bought the crinkle blue (think it’s the one @ScottishMouse has) . Verrrrrrry generously sized but did some of you say it shrank? I think it’ll be in the next sale but I want something now. It’s the same style as a winter cashmere/wool dress years now I have and have got a lot of wear out of.

ScottishMouse · 06/08/2024 08:16

The shrinkage issue I queried recently was not with that dress @Countmeout but with the thicker double layered crinkle pinafore. I haven’t yet washed the blue check dress, I’m hoping it won’t have the same issue as very different fabric. But maybe someone else has washed theirs?

Countmeout · 06/08/2024 08:50

Thanks @ScottishMouse . I haven’t washed the pinafore yet. The dress is huge and has a bit of leeway for shrinkage especially lengthways. Just would prefer it not to shrink too much in the bust unless I manage to shrink myself.

How wearable is this stuff? It looks too shabby chic / Boho for work. Where do you actually wear this stuff?

WestCorkGal · 06/08/2024 09:01

Just scrolling here. First time on a thread about Toast. Seems like a lovely supportive community! Yet post after post mention..poor fit..disappointing colours..expensive..so tell me please why so loyal to this brand? I'm size 14 to 16 with a broad back and rediculous 38G knockers, always felt toast clothing would just not work for me. I can see the quality of course in the beautiful fabrics.
Anyone want to convince me that it's worth the investment?

mizu · 06/08/2024 09:08

Thanks @Theteapotsbrokenspout I'm still pondering 🤔 Grin

Bimblesalong · 06/08/2024 09:15

I will be stalking the seersucker dress in the sale - when is the next sale due? 🤣

OftenOrange · 06/08/2024 09:21

@Polarnight @WestCorkGal You either get it or you don’t surely?
Speaking for myself I can say that I’ve always disliked fitted ,smart clothing that looks ultra luxe and effortful . I especially dislike the glamorous look many aspire to , it often really grates .
I suppose I see the aesthetic as more Vanessa Bell than Victoria Beckham , anything Bloomsbury Group has my vote!

Also I find quality to be excellent, colours unusual and interesting, and don’t have problems with fit any more more than I would with any other label .
I used to live in Margaret Howell and still love her collections, in fact fabrication there is no better than Toast .

Polarnight · 06/08/2024 09:51

I haven't worn a pinafore since primary school. I guess if you have hundreds per item but it looks handmaid's tale esque

Thanks for reply. I do get the aesthetic and agree with your dislike of the high glam ultra femme look. The look is very pleasing and quiet luxury.
I was asking specifically about the fit in the context of my figure. None of the models are busty ( " the young and the breastless " i call it! Lucky them!) and that can change how the garments hang. It's hit and miss for me with dresses

Snowyowl78 · 06/08/2024 10:30

@Bimblesalong i think September.

has anyone got this in a size 12 they are waiting to send back that I can have instead by chance?! I’ve been waiting for ages to buy it, fear it may be gone forever.

whinsome · 06/08/2024 10:42

I am busty and broad shouldered. I have some dresses that fit beautifully - some I’ve tried are too tight or don’t suit me. Same as everywhere I guess. I do find the reviews from customers (and from here) really useful in helping me figure out what might work for me, as going to a shop is rarely practical for me due to distance.

whinsome · 06/08/2024 11:27

Though saying that some of the difference in cut between what should be the same size, of lack between difference sizes is frustrating. Occasional quality issues but I do find it difficult to find similar quality elsewhere.

OftenOrange · 06/08/2024 12:04

@WestCorkGal Sorry , your question was about fit , and I understand how frustrating it may be to shop Toast , I agree the shape of the models is unhelpful and in fact as has been discussed here previously the clothes look better on real women !
If you go to the Live section on the website there are short films showing some pieces on a variety of heights and body shapes .
I think they have only 4 or 5 basic dress shapes which recur with tweaks each season.
Best of all is to visit a store of course,

I realise why I’m committed to Toast is because by and large the stuff fits me well as opposed to other makes .

@Polarnight Sounds like you really don’t like Toast !!

faustina · 06/08/2024 14:54

@WestCorkGal if you follow the various Toast stores on Instagram, they often have real people wearing their clothes, that might you a better idea of what might suit your shape, they also do occasional videos with people of different sizes wearing things.

Rather surprisingly I got Kindred membership today! Anyone else?

peerie · 06/08/2024 16:32

Grid Check Cotton Linen Jacket
Anyone any thoughts on this jacket?

Snowyowl78 · 06/08/2024 17:28

There’s a total bargain on eBay if anyone is looking for this jacket in a size 8. Sadly too small for me!

OftenOrange · 06/08/2024 17:30

@peerie I really like it, though not sure about it with matching trousers. I’ve a short boxy cotton jacket in a similar grey which I bought at a sample sale because it seemed cheap , it’s proved to be really useful as I like stormy grey with ecru and denim in the Summer .

peerie · 06/08/2024 17:42

I don't think I could do the full suit thing, too wee but I thought this would be good with jeans/plain alix trousers or even a floaty dress. I've ordered it now anyway 😀

honeylou42 · 07/08/2024 15:26

As a newby to toast, please can I ask is their sizing generous. I'm a size 20 and wondering if an xl would fit?

ScottishMouse · 07/08/2024 16:40

I really like that shirt @Countmeout. But I have short arms, so would have to turn up the sleeves and lose the beautiful smocking detail, which seems kind of pointless. They look like full length sleeves rather than the bracelet length ones Toast sometimes do, I am a big fan of those for my short arms!

Countmeout · 08/08/2024 07:21

I the fullness of the sleeves (by dint of having the smocking) is too much for me @ScottishMouse .

@honeylou42 . Since the resizing of some items I believe some things are smaller. XL is not very XL as before. Someone who knows better than me might be along in a minute. I do think if you look at the garment measurements they can help judge which items might work.

OP posts:
lordloveadog · 08/08/2024 17:42

@honeylou42 the measurements of the XL clothes vary, partly depending on cut.

Which garments fit you will also depend on where you’re largest.

I have broad shoulders and large bust which rules out anything described as ‘neat’.

But other clothes can be quite generous on me, and I’m a generous 18.
