For a few years I've wanted these boots, but I've never justified the cost! Do I bit the bullet and buy them or find an alternative?

I wouldn’t. That style was on trend a few years ago but not so much now. However if you love them then you should buy them, your style is yours and nothing to do with anyone else.

DelphiniumBlue · 29/04/2023 00:44

Have you tried them on? For that money to be justified, they'd need to feel like walking on clouds, and IMO they don't look comfortable at all, they are definitely not everyday kinda boots. How much wear would you get out of them?
I am old and my advice to you is it's fine to spend mega bucks on things that you'll wear a lot ; a decent coat, boots you can walk all day in, the perfect jeans. But if you'd only wear them for rare special occasions, then it's not worth it.

BusterGonad · 29/04/2023 00:56

Leather soles are lethal when it rains.

Jellyheadbang · 29/04/2023 01:00

Rm Williams offer lifetime guarantee and repairs, much like Trigger's broom, I'm sure.
Plus most cobblers happy to put more durable sole atop a leather one.
If you love them a d can afford them it's an investment as long as you love the style

newfriend05 · 29/04/2023 01:03

You can get boots in that style for a must cheaper price .. I wouldn't pay that price

SweetBonanza · 29/04/2023 01:05

They look like so many other boots though. It's a common generic style. So no one would know they were special

Housenoob · 29/04/2023 01:08

I'm sorry they are awful and you can probably get similar elsewhere for under 50 quid.

As above really, I also definitely wouldn't.

They certainly don't look the money and the style and shape feel dated (to me). You could purchase a very similar pair (leather and non leather) for a fraction of the price.

Catsmere · 29/04/2023 01:29

Ridiculous amount of money for boots that will help ruin your feet and legs and don’t look any different from things you’d see in el cheapo shoe shops.

Morestrangerthings · 29/04/2023 01:33

they will most likely last forever. but have you tried these on? rm williams boots with the higher heel can be really heavy.

LuluBlakey1 · 29/04/2023 01:46

No they are dated and the heel is an awful shape.

readbooksdrinktea · 29/04/2023 01:51

They look like so many other boots that cost much, much less.

Itsanewnameeveryday · 29/04/2023 03:12

I’ve had similar from RM Williams.
They will last 30 years or more and if a popular size and style will sell for quite a bit if you decide to pass them on.
Mine we’re 20 years old and we’ll worn but a flat style and I got 70% of the cost back.

MysteryBelle · 29/04/2023 03:36

They don’t look worth that amount of money in the least. They look like a hundred other basic boots. Exaggeratedly pointy like witch’s boots. It’s a non for me.

MysteryBelle · 29/04/2023 03:38

And the heel shape is granny chic but ten years ago. Unattractive.

MysteryBelle · 29/04/2023 03:40

Pointy hat to match and a wart for the nose, on trend for granny witch chic.

givemecoffeenow · 29/04/2023 03:41

They don’t really look like anything special for the price they are.

But if you can afford it and if they will make you happy then I say buy them. Life is too short.

PollyPeptide · 29/04/2023 04:15

I've seen tons of boots like that for a tenth of the price. I think for that sort of money, you can do better.

Violasaremyfavourite · 29/04/2023 04:16

I am sure they are good quality and well made. The comfort point though is key. When I used to ride lots of people used to wear pull on short leather boots and swore they were comfortable. Both my son and I found them excruciatingly umcomfortable and literally painful. We didn't buy them.

rubydoobydoo · 29/04/2023 04:32

Normally I'd say if you really love something then go for it.
Then I clicked on the link! Don't do it. Nothing special about them at all, and you could get similar for about £30 I'm any high street shop!

Admit it - you've posted this on behalf of someone else in the hope of talking them out of it when they read the comments haven't you?

I knew they were expensive before I saw the price. You can tell from the photo that it's gorgeous leather. The finishing's good.

As it goes, I don't think they're very nice. I agree they look like they might be uncomfortable (there's something odd going on with the model's foot!) and it's a very generic style. But, despite the fact that I'm going through a rare polyester phase at the moment, I disagree almost 100% that cheap looks as good as quality.

Kvetching · 29/04/2023 04:48

I had boots that shape at least 10 years ago. I agree with others, they look very dated.

Username24680 · 29/04/2023 05:21

Not my style personally but they look like very well made boots @Hop27 😊 They’re definitely a good quality leather and the welted sole unit improves the life span of the boot.
Are you in Australia or is that just where the boots are from? Keep in mind that if you’re in the UK, leather soles aren’t the best given our weather. You need to look after them properly to make them last.

Paul Green made a similar style a few years ago with the western shaped heel. Retailed at less than £200 if I remember correctly! Loads of lovely choices of uppers too. If you’re not 100x convinced on the price then it may be worth a look to see if they still do similar as an alternative 😊

Username24680 · 29/04/2023 05:26

The Paul Green ones are lower than the ones you’ve posted but similar in shape 😊
