For a few years I've wanted these boots, but I've never justified the cost! Do I bit the bullet and buy them or find an alternative?

I really like them.

I love Witchery for blouses etc op but I'd never buy shoes from them. I just don't think of them for quality shoes.

Midas make nice boots. Have you looked at Midas or David Jones? RM Williams are lovely though, can't really go wrong.

Yes. Definitely you won’t regret it - fabulous and very very long lasting. I’ve lived in Aus for 11 years and promised myself a pair of RM Williams Millicent when I became a citizen. I bought mine on ebay for AUD225 and they still look as good as new.

user1478112490 · 01/05/2023 07:07

If you love them, can afford them and have wanted them for a long time then please buy them. If you get a cheaper alternative you will probably still want these one anyway. We are only here once so treat yourself and wear them with joy.

fyn · 01/05/2023 07:16

I was in a country outfitters the other day buying some other shoes and somebody had bought in two pairs of RM Williams where the leather upper had split. They were told that they couldn’t be repaired and wasn’t anything to be done, warranty didn’t cover it!

I also think that these wouldn’t be seen as dated in my friendship circle, although it’s very country with lots of farmers and people working in agricultural industries!

Ivebeenframed · 01/05/2023 08:55

How about these?

Ask yourself this.

how many pairs of those boots will you be able to buy and enjoy when you’re dead?

Rabbitheadlights · 01/05/2023 09:10

Why would you? They really are just generic black boots, there is nothing special about them at all.

Louiseandsophie · 01/05/2023 10:21

Save your money... That's a month's rent for someone...

Oh for God's sake! Why are people coming on to say 'save your money, that's a month's rent for someone'?

OP knows the price. She knows they're an investment buy & that she'll have them for years to come. Presumably she can afford them if she's contemplating them so it's utterly irrelevant to pipe up with 'it's a months rent' as long as its not OP's rent money that she's using. And really....can you rent for £350pm?

Has this been running long enough to have gone in to ‘Active’? That’s usually the point at which people who have no interest in, nothing at all to say, about the matter in hand, and just want to use a post as a vehicle for their own issue, arrive. So we now get the ‘why oh why, oh why; I’d never spend x on y crew’ upbraiding people for their choices. So very tiresome. They are probably now doing the same on the holiday board.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/05/2023 10:56

If you can afford it then sure. Just make sure you look after them so they do last!

They may not be hugely fashionable right now, but they have a distinct look and I can see why you might love them and how they could be really useful and used regularly. You will probably want to get grippy soles added.

That's irrelevant isn't it, if the OP can afford them.

They will last many many years if looked after. The boots you posted would be lucky to last a year, and won't look anywhere near as good.

At those prices those boots must have been made in a sweatshop in China. The OP's boots are made in Australia. I assume Australia is similar employment and health and safety rules as the UK and EU.

😂😂😂. They're not exactly comparable to the boots the OP is looking at! They don't look anything like them and aren't leather. I would love to know where the cost of the boots would pay your rent in a major Australian city. But surely the point is that the OP can clearly afford them or she wouldn't have been asking. They are lovely, really good quality boots and will last her for years.

RosyDawn · 01/05/2023 11:48

I’ve always thought of RM Williams as a quality brand but it’s worth checking they still are and not just trading off their name whilst knocking out cheaper stuff (looking at you Doc Marten).

If they are still good and you like the style then go for it. Life’s too short for cheap shoes. Also “buy cheap, buy twice”. Good quality footwear is better for your body and will last and last.

cobden28 · 01/05/2023 13:09

Nice stylish boots, but the price does seem rather high - not sure what the price conversion is from Australian dollars to sterling, as I'm in the UK. Quality leather footwear is expenseive here in the UK and especially so if it has leather soles; is this the sort of style you'd wear often, so you'd get your money's worth of wear out of such an expensive item of clothing?

midsomermurderess · 01/05/2023 13:18

It’s about £350.

petmad · 01/05/2023 13:23

I was expecting better for the price you can get good quality ones for less my daughter bought me a a pair 5 years ago still going strong 70.00 gbp

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 01/05/2023 13:29

That shape of shoe usually doesn't work with my foot and I personally don't like the style. They do look a bit outdated to me personally. I therefore wouldn't buy them.

If I you like them, find them comfortable and have the funds? Yes, why not.

Alondra · 01/05/2023 14:30

Cowboy boots are in a rage right now. They've always been "a classic" but are really in fashion now.

R M Williams are exceptionally made boots. There is a reason why they are expensive - they'll last decades and once you break them, it'll be like wearing slippers (they are so comfortable)

Good boots are expensive, and it's better to invest in good quality than cheaper versions that won't last and won't be as comfortable.

Do you seriously think those shitty boots are comparable?!

angela99999 · 01/05/2023 21:32

It seems like a lot of money for some pretty ordinary looking boots. And not really the season to buy them.

LaDamaDeElche · 01/05/2023 21:53

I thought you were going to show sone Jimmy Choo boots or something 😅 No, there're basic boots at an inflated price. You could get a pair like that for £100 that are good quality.
