For a few years I've wanted these boots, but I've never justified the cost! Do I bit the bullet and buy them or find an alternative?

Is a no from me.

I also thought they looked dated but all the boots on this site look similar so it must be their thing. Maybe it’s a recognisable brand and style in Australia and us Brits don’t appreciate them the same 🤷‍♀️

MsDastardley · 29/04/2023 05:43

I like them. Don’t agree that they are dated, and you definitely wouldn’t find a comparable pair in high street for a few quid. Russell and Bromley have a similar pair around same price https://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/nashville/241034. I wouldn’t order from UK though as wouldn’t want to pay import duties

I'm not bothered if they are 'dated' just want a well made classic boot, with a leather sole. Not a cheap Knock off for $50...

These are an alternative

I have some similar but more classic and timeless from Burberry which were not that much more. They are exquisite

produ · 29/04/2023 06:26

Western boots are actually back in to those saying they are dated.

At that price I would want them to be super comfortable

produ · 29/04/2023 06:28

I also think you can tell the difference between leather expensive boots & the £40 version from cheap shops

Totalwasteofpaper · 29/04/2023 06:30

Personally...if

  • you love them and have want them for a long time
  • can afford them
  • they bring you joy

Crack on and buy them.

Marchintospring · 29/04/2023 06:36

Nope. You will be disappointed. There’s a reason you haven’t bought them already.

Hongkongsuey · 29/04/2023 06:36

The second boots are much nicer.

VegemiteSammich · 29/04/2023 06:37

RMs are worn predominantly by farmers and country people here because they’ll last for decades, are crazy durable and comfortable once broken in, like all shoes.

I agree. Cheap shoes/boots are just that. I wouldn't pay the price you're paying (I couldn't afford to), but I always get real leather and get the best I can afford. Usually ones I like discounted etc.

lozengeoflove · 29/04/2023 07:06

Absolutely! They are gorgeous!
Definitely not dated, rather a classic western style boot.

Buying cheap boots is false economy. If you can afford these beauties, get them. You’ll never regret having a well made boot!

JandalsAlways · 29/04/2023 07:09

Get them. You've been wanting then for years!

Doingmybest12 · 29/04/2023 07:21

They look like a classic style to me and if you can afford them , they are well made and you know you'll love them for a long time then buy them.

FabFitFifties · 29/04/2023 07:25

The second pair are the best by far.

Rm Williams offer lifetime guarantee and repairs, much like Trigger's broom, I'm sure.
Plus most cobblers happy to put more durable sole atop a leather one.
If you love them a d can afford them it's an investment as long as you love the style

RM William's didn't follow through on the lifetime guarantee for two pairs of boots we owned (different issues with the leather upper).

wheresmyshoe · 29/04/2023 07:49

I love my flat RM Williams, exceptional quality and craftsmanship. I got rubber soles put on for grip. I've had them 10 years and they're like these men's ones: www.rmwilliams.com.au/comfort-craftsman-boot-chestnut-yearling-leather.html?lang=en_AU

Magn · 29/04/2023 08:10

I also have the flat version with the rubber soles. Favourite pair of shoes and, despite wearing them a LOT, they look great still. I thought about them for months and what swung it for me was the guarantee because I could do the cost per wear. Also future proofs rubber soles.

So definitely yes to a pair but maybe not that exact pair. Try on the options before you decide.

Topee · 29/04/2023 08:12

So many posts suggesting that you shouldn’t purchase because they wouldn’t be deemed fashionable or be recognised as something other than cheap.

I buy things for me, because I like them. If they’re expensive I don’t care if others recognise that or not and taste is subjective. We don’t all like the same look and that’s a good thing!

Our planet would be in better shape if people moved away from fast, cheap fashion and bought quality, classic, longer lasting items.

Buy the boots OP, they’re to make you happy, not others.

Crabbity · 29/04/2023 08:43

Buy them OP - my husband has had a pair of RM William for 20 years and they’re still great. He loves them.

The first pair are much nicer than the second, but either way, go for the ones you really want rather than which are ‘on trend’ - which is utterly irrelevant if you’ll have them for decades.

They’re also a much more sustainable purchase.

poppysockies · 29/04/2023 08:53

RM Williams are absolutely iconic - they can be re-soled/repaired and last for decades.
That said, personally I'd buy a style with a smaller heel- the Yearlings or Adelaide, for example.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 29/04/2023 09:11

They're like a more elegant Acne Star boot. The boot you've linked to are such a classic style they won't date. Far better, both aesthetically and quality-wise than anything the other posters have suggested too. At around £350, they're well-priced.

Ignore the detractors on here and buy them - I wish you well to wear them.
