For a few years I've wanted these boots, but I've never justified the cost! Do I bit the bullet and buy them or find an alternative?

Yes, if you can afford them get them!

I don’t think they’re dated, they’re a fairly classic style are they not.

Those are horrible, look quite cheap and aren’t a patch on the boots the OP is looking at in terms of style or quality. And people saying, there are lots of cheaper boots in the same style, are entirely overlooking the quality here.

They’re the same price bar about £30. I prefer the Russell & Bromley ones. I don’t think the OP’s choice has done itself any favours by being modelled with those truly awful jeans 😯

midsomermurderess · 29/04/2023 12:33

They are about the same price, but I prefer the ones the OP posted. How they are styled on the website doesn’t matter, in fact it properly lets you see them. And all this, buy a pair for £50, you’d be buying plastic rubbish. Quality is clearly wasted on some people. Buy cheap, buy, at least, twice.

newfriend05 · 29/04/2023 01:03

You can get boots in that style for a must cheaper price .. I wouldn't pay that price

Same. Plus they are very 90s and a bit dated now

FixItDuck · 29/04/2023 12:57

I really don't like the shape of them. It's like they're trying to be all the different boots at once- a heel and a chelsea boot and a cowboy boot.

For that money, I'd go for a classic chelsea boot. More useful and less dated.

ShinyShinyShinyBootsOfLeather · 29/04/2023 13:23

I have to say I really don't object to the price and quality (I think buying less but higher quality is a good thing), but I don't think they look very nice. They're neither in style nor classic.

But if op loves them and will wear them forever then that's up to her really.

If the qu

ShinyShinyShinyBootsOfLeather · 29/04/2023 13:23

...question is just about price and quality then I don't think it's unreasonable to pay this much for decent quality boots.

I wouldn't choose those ones but they aren't going on my feet

No not unless u r going for the aging cowboy look.

Cowboy boots

I love these authoritative statements on MN and the declarations of what is "dated"

Possibly, as in politics, a week is a long time in fashion but in August 2022 Harriet Walker , The Times fashion columnist, Isabel Marant and Annie of Annie's Ibiza were all promoting cowboy boots and boots with this style of heel.

If I were going to pay attention to what is or isn't dated I think I be swayed more by Harriet et al.

On the OP's boots, they probably are good quality and will last forever. As for being "dated" it's a fairly basic, been around forever style which from time to time will be back in the limelight. I wouldn't buy them because I think block heels are ugly.

Cowboy boots are back — here are the best styles for summer

There’s no need to look like you’re in fancy dress. Saddle up and follow my advice, says Harriet Walker

Er 90s is totally on trend rn

slowquickstep · 29/04/2023 14:53

Buy them, they will last decades.

JusthereforXmas · 29/04/2023 15:38

I own a pair of boots that look like that that where £10 in a charity shop... thats insane money for generic shoes.

bpirockin · 29/04/2023 15:43

I would! Love the style, boots are so very wearable and such lovely quality ones will last for years.

Blossomtoes · 29/04/2023 16:04

speakout · 29/04/2023 10:37

Not to my taste- but if you like them and can afford them then go for it.

Personally I would never pay this much for footwear.

I am also very protective of my back and foot health.

I never wear heels, I think they are unhealthy for foot and lower back.
I also would never wear shoes, with triangular or pointed fronts, particulary if they have heels which push the foot forward- it is a recipe for bunions.

I am in my 60s and my feet are perfect. I have cared for them really well over my life, and have no bunions, hammer toes, no callouses, no corns, no ingrown toenails,no deformities many of theseare caused by bad shoes.
I see other women's feet regularly, and most women my age seem to have bunions.

My face may give away my age, but my feet don't. I have the feet of a 14 year old and they serve me very well.

My feet are also perfect. I’m 70 this year. I’ve worn stilettos, kitten heels, pointed toes, the whole lot in my life to no ill effect. The crucial thing is never wearing anything that hurts. If it hurts it’s going to damage your feet, if it doesn’t it won’t.

I like your first pair @Hop27. They’re a classic western boot that oozes quality and you’ll wear them for decades. It’s a good idea to put a rubber sole on before you wear them because they will slip.

CaptainMarvelle · 29/04/2023 16:13

If I was going to spend that much money on boots I’d get them from here - they are designed by a podiatrist and won’t destroy your feet. https://baredfootwear.com/uk/collections/womens-boots

If your not into what is currently fashionable and you have the money then go for it.

I'm 63 but same here and I've got lovely feet. Agree with never wear anything that hurts and I think wearing different styles and heights of heels.

They aren't like the ones in the op at all. I don't see any wee pointy, sticky up toe on those. And anyway, if op wants classic, she shouldn't be governed by what The Times tells her is 'in'. So not sure this article convinces me to like the op boots

My point wasn't whether the boots are "out" or "in" or to make you or anyone else like the boots. (I don't like them)

My point is that MN authoritative proclamations of what is "out" or "in" or "dated" are usually highly suspect.

That’s about £350.00 sterling? I’d just buy them, you have thought long and hard. Buy, try them walking around house, if comfortable keep.

Enjoy your new boots!!

Blossomtoes · 29/04/2023 18:01

Fashion is so diverse at the moment I don’t think whether something’s “in”, “out” or “dated” is really a consideration. What really matters is whether you like something and it’s your style.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 29/04/2023 19:09

Not for that price no very expensive, shop around and wear what you like and don't worry what others say. I wear what I find nice and comfy and not what others think is in fashion or what you have to wear. But that price is crazy.

Shawaddywaddeee · 29/04/2023 19:11

Def find an alternative.. I got very similar from new look real leather for £50 few years back. This style could easily be found elsewhere x

midsomermurderess · 29/04/2023 19:31

A £50 pair of boots from New Look and you think they are like these ones? It’s nonsense, there is no way, other than at a superficial glance, they’d be anything like them. It’s not just about the style, it’s the quality of the materials and the workmanship.

MelsMoneyTree · 29/04/2023 20:08

They're not dated. That style is having a revival. But I wouldn't pay that amount of money for them. You could get a similar pair of a similar quality for much cheaper. There is nothing (either for the wearer or for someone looking at them) that justifies that price tag.

RampantIvy · 29/04/2023 20:10

Not at that price, no.
