Do I bite the bullet and buy these boots?

For a few years I've wanted these boots, but I've never justified the cost! Do I bit the bullet and buy them or find an alternative?

They are pretty generic boots.

ShinyShinyShinyBootsOfLeather · 29/04/2023 09:17

Totally agree you should buy a classic pair of boots and invest in them. But, are they classic? I think the little upturned, pointy toe is a bit of a style (and not one I like)

Christmascracker0 · 29/04/2023 09:35

Another vote to buy the boots!

If you love them then you’ll wear them regardless of trends. They look well made and lovely leather.

Some people on here seem to think you can compare a £40 shoe to a £350 shoe 🥲

mummydoris2006 · 29/04/2023 09:42

Unless people are familiar with the brand and other similar country brands they will always seem very expensive. Have others have said though the quality and lifespan of the boots is the reason for the price tag.
Vinted has lots of RM Williams on if you don't want to pay so much to begin with

midsomermurderess · 29/04/2023 09:46

MsDastardley · 29/04/2023 05:43

I like them. Don’t agree that they are dated, and you definitely wouldn’t find a comparable pair in high street for a few quid. Russell and Bromley have a similar pair around same price https://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/nashville/241034. I wouldn’t order from UK though as wouldn’t want to pay import duties

Those are horrible, look quite cheap and aren’t a patch on the boots the OP is looking at in terms of style or quality. And people saying, there are lots of cheaper boots in the same style, are entirely overlooking the quality here.

pictoosh · 29/04/2023 09:49

Was all prepared to say YES but having clicked on the link...no.
They're wholly unremarkable for the high price. It's a mum boot.

YukoandHiro · 29/04/2023 09:50

I don't think they're worth the cost because they aren't quite special enough.

Eg years ago when those Chloe boots were popular you could tell the real ones from the rip offs a mile off. For this pair? Not so much. You'll get just a good a pair for half the price or less.

Skybluepinky · 29/04/2023 09:53

No not unless u r going for the aging cowboy look.

1035tg · 29/04/2023 10:19

I know RM Williams are a thing, however I have a very similar pair from Jo Mercer OP, they were around $300 last season. Most importantly they have a zip at the back (same style but with an almost invisible zip to help get them on). Also, leather soles wear very quickly, you will need to replace them often if you wear them say weekly. But I know many rave about RMW, so if you've tried them on and they are comfortable, go for it.

willWillSmithsmith · 29/04/2023 10:20

They’re nice enough boots but a very common style that could be £50/£75 (or dollars). It’s up to you of course if you want them. Perhaps they’re really really comfy to justify the price?

MyStarBoy · 29/04/2023 10:23

They look really classy.
If you wear them they will be worth their weight in gold. That's if you can afford them of course.
As long as they are also as comfortable and you know you will definitely wear them.

I've bought cheap rubbish and can't wear it - so end up wasting loads of money that way and then end up buying what i really wanted in the first place.

My max is about 150.00 gbp though, but it's all relative with what you earn or how much money you have.

willWillSmithsmith · 29/04/2023 10:26

The most expensive ankle boots I’ve ever bought were £250. They were really comfy and the leather was really soft. They were a more unique style though. Unfortunately my dog chewed them up when she was a puppy 😢

LlynTegid · 29/04/2023 10:27

I couldn't justify the cost.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 29/04/2023 10:34

They're not that expensive if you're going to wear them a lot.

However, before buying them, I'd be googling to see what they look like once they are worn in; given the lifespan of the boot, most of the wearing will take place in the "worn in" stage. Do they age well?

I disagree with PP recommending cheaper copies: They never look as good after a few wears

speakout · 29/04/2023 10:37

Not to my taste- but if you like them and can afford them then go for it.

Personally I would never pay this much for footwear.

I am also very protective of my back and foot health.

I never wear heels, I think they are unhealthy for foot and lower back.
I also would never wear shoes, with triangular or pointed fronts, particulary if they have heels which push the foot forward- it is a recipe for bunions.

I am in my 60s and my feet are perfect. I have cared for them really well over my life, and have no bunions, hammer toes, no callouses, no corns, no ingrown toenails,no deformities many of theseare caused by bad shoes.
I see other women's feet regularly, and most women my age seem to have bunions.

My face may give away my age, but my feet don't. I have the feet of a 14 year old and they serve me very well.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 29/04/2023 10:38

I'm feeling feet-guilt now.

OldHouseLover · 29/04/2023 10:42

If you've loved them for years then buy them & wear them & enjoy them!

I am not a fan of cheap shoes/ boots & despite what people say on here you can 100% tell the difference in quality.

The price is in Australian dollars so its about £350 . Which over a lifetime is not bad.

I have Isabel Marant boots that are a somewhat similar style but snakeskin & they were €600 about 5 years ago & I will have them forever.

I also have red leather Paul Green Western ankle boots & they were about €300. Again ill have them for years

That style of boot is classic & brands lily Acne, All Saints, Zadig & Voltaire, ba&sh, The Kooples all regularly stock similar styles.

swearymad · 29/04/2023 10:46

Order them and if you love them, keep them. Any doubts, return them. That's my rule when I'm ordering something online that I've fallen in love with without seeing in real life. Works for me.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhnow · 29/04/2023 11:20

Bit dated now sadly.

I have Acne pistol boots which were very on trend some years ago and now they just look really old fashioned. They're very very similar to the boots you've linked and you'll be able to pick up a second hand bargain quite cheaply so I'd look at that if your heart is set on these

Softoprider · 29/04/2023 11:21

If you must buy them please wear jeans that are long enough unlike the awful photo on the link

Hoppinggreen · 29/04/2023 11:22

I usually tell people to go for it in posts like this but I just don’t see why those would be so expensive, they are t particularly special

Softoprider · 29/04/2023 11:23

I am 68 in May and wear heels from time to time. In fact I wear what I like and do not have bunions either @speakout

Mythicalcreatures · 29/04/2023 11:27

If you love them and can afford them get them. They are not my cup of tea but who cares? I have paid a similar amount for boots in the past and I still love them and get comments on them. I got my leather soles soled

pfftt · 29/04/2023 11:48

@midsomermurderess I agree. It's cringe how many people suggest some god awful cheap looking alternative. OP don't take advice from people who can't tell the difference. Some people genuinely can not see quality.

pfftt · 29/04/2023 11:48

pictoosh · 29/04/2023 09:49

It is not a mum boot. If you knew the brand you would know they are not even close to a mum boot. They are tough boots.
