What would you think if someone wore a bikini with this scarring?

Approximately 4 months out and it's still red it will be another 4 months before I go on holiday . I'm wondering whether to wear a bikini even if it's not fully white or will people ask me questions etc?

OP posts:

Wear whatever you’re comfortable wearing. You have a great figure - be proud of it!

i can’t imagine people would ask questions but if someone did, would you be comfortable answering them?

elizabethdraper · 29/03/2023 12:18

I wouldnt think a thing tbh
Probably wouldnt notice

Baldieheid · 29/03/2023 12:18

I'd think nothing. Genuinely. I'd observe that you'd had surgery, puck my book up and have another sip of my cocktail.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/03/2023 12:19

I wouldn't wear a bikini only as you should be careful getting sun on recent scars.

BreadPittt · 29/03/2023 12:19

My only question to you is will you put plenty of sun block on? The scar is new skin, so please be careful.

Spkat · 29/03/2023 12:19

I don't think it will be white by then.

Depends how you feel about it as to whether you mind looks/questions. People may look without meaning to be rude.

Frenchfancy · 29/03/2023 12:20

Just wear a bikini. No one will care

JamSandle · 29/03/2023 12:21

If you want to wear a bikini please do.

My mum had a big scar down her middle from cancer surgery. At first she was very self conscious but in the end she found it liberating as the scar was part of the reason why she was still here!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 29/03/2023 12:21

I might register that there's a scar but I'd think nothing of it. In your case though, OP, I'd think that it was extremely neatly done and that your surgeon was excellent.

Wear your bikini with pride. Thanks

Beldam · 29/03/2023 12:21

I wouldn’t ever ask a stranger a question about it in real life and I don’t suppose many others would either.

privately I’d think wow that’s a big scar and I wonder what happened. But I’d also be thinking how great you look and how body positive you are

Timeforabiscuit · 29/03/2023 12:22

What an amazing figure! you'll look stunning what ever you wear.

Wouldn't really register the scar as such at a glance as it's very straight, but wear what you feel comfortable in, the only slight concern would be sun damage on delicate new skin, but you've probably got all the advice on that.

FriedEggChocolate · 29/03/2023 12:23

Practice "you ought to see the other guy!" and a wink. You'll be fine. Chin up and ignore the looks.

annonymousse · 29/03/2023 12:23

I might or might not notice it. If I thought anything at all it would be sympathy for the past surgery and admiration for coming through it and not hiding it. Also envy of your figure 😊

mumwheresmyribena · 29/03/2023 12:23

I'd think "wow, a warrior!" and be totally jealous in awe of your great body.

andymary · 29/03/2023 12:26

Hopefully the scar wasn't due to anything life threatening and you're all recovered now.
But that is one mean looking scar (in a good way) and you should just rock it, as you'll no doubt look bad ass on the beach 👌
Be proud of whatever it was that you had to overcome, and if you want to wear a bikini, do so.

EyesOnThePies · 29/03/2023 12:26

I would mind my own damn business! Or probably not actually notice.

People on beaches and round pools come in the full range of everything! Prosthetic limbs, slim and fit, birth marks, Dad Bods, body builders, Mum Tums, fat, thin, old and weathered skin, young and blooming.... who cares, they are there to relax and enjoy themselves.

However, not sure sun on recent scars is advisable.

Notegoat · 29/03/2023 12:26

I wouldn’t blink at the scar but as others have said you need to use really strong sun block on it for the first 18 months.

JaneJeffer · 29/03/2023 12:28

I would think I wonder what happened to her

WhoDatWhoDere · 29/03/2023 12:29

I would assume you've had a tummy tuck and think you look fantastic and be jealous that I can't afford one 😂

tribpot · 29/03/2023 12:30

Totally agree - if you want to wear a bikini, do so, just be super careful about the sun. If you think people might look, try to give off vibes like it's a combat wound and you're an elite Navy SEAL, that should do the job.

Seriously, though - you've obviously been through the wars, even if not a literal one. The main thing is to enjoy your holiday.

WonkyFeelings · 29/03/2023 12:30

I would think nothing of it but I echo the voices saying plenty of sunscreen!

Falifornia · 29/03/2023 12:31

Cross posting with @mumwheresmyribena
I'd think "Good her her, she's a survivor"
Closely followed by "I wish my waist was that slim" . . . .

daretodenim · 29/03/2023 12:33

I'd obviously see it but that's literally it. Maybe I'd hope you were ok? I wouldn't think anything though. I'd be more likely to pay attention to whether or not I liked the bikini!

I hope you are ok though and whatever you choose to wear, I hope you choose something you're comfortable in so you can have fun and not be self-conscious.

Caspianberg · 29/03/2023 12:36

I would. But as others said, sun on new scars isn’t good. So maybe take bikini for when you can lather thick sun cream on regularly and recover after. or to wear in indoor pool.
And take a full swim suit or longer rash vest for if your outside or in sea a lot to help protect skin.

CarPoor · 29/03/2023 12:36

I would think nothing, I doubt I would even process it tbh.

I certainly wouldn't feel the need to ask you any questions, its fairly obvious you've had some sort of significant surgery, I don't go around asking people or caring about their medical history on holiday

Wear what you like and feel comfortable in. But make sure that you put plenty of SPF on and I would take a cover up so you aren't spending too long with it in the sun
