What would you think if someone wore a bikini with this scarring?

Fifi1010 · 29/03/2023 12:14

Approximately 4 months out and it's still red it will be another 4 months before I go on holiday . I'm wondering whether to wear a bikini even if it's not fully white or will people ask me questions etc?

My only negative thought would be worrying about the scar being exposed to the sun. Even years on you need to be extra careful with scars.

I'd think "wow, a warrior!" and be totally jealous in awe of your great body.

This.

you’ve already had loads of people say this - but 50 factor sun block. My daughter had surgery on her face aged 11, we were so careful for 2 years- factor 50 sunhat sunglasses even in school (not the glasses) but totally covered up - lots of bio oil and also a cream for scars - she’s 16 now but honestly it disappeared after 12 months.

however scars are our history and I’d look at that and think warrior queen - just like I look at my c section scars and go - I did that

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 29/03/2023 13:26

If I noticed, I'd probably wonder what surgery you'd had. Because I'm nosy.

I wouldn't be bothered with it and I wouldn't ask you about it. My kids are old enough to hold their tongues, but if they were younger and asked I'd just tell them you'd probably had an operation of some sort.

Mintyt · 29/03/2023 13:27

I would be amazed at how amazing bodies are. And I would wonder what caused the scar and how neat it is

Badger1970 · 29/03/2023 13:30

I'd see it and think "please cover that up, you'll damage your scar!". DD had a scar on her face that took a few years to really fade, and we used silicone gel/sunblock for that time.

Chowtime · 29/03/2023 13:32

I would wonder whether you had lost a lot of weight recently and had loose skin/tummy tuck type surgery.

Then I'd go down the gym lol.

Riverlee · 29/03/2023 13:34

Fluffodils · 29/03/2023 13:08

As someone with a scar that attracts attention please don't do that

Ok, advice taken on board.

Capreedan · 29/03/2023 13:35

If anyone asks you simply say none of your business, because it isn't anyone's business but your own.

Sunscreen wise it depends what you usually wear. I had surgery on my face for basal cell carcinoma but I usually wear all day factor 50 anyway so just wore that in the US on holiday.

FloydPepper · 29/03/2023 13:37

I think I’d think “good on you for wearing whatever you like” I wouldn’t dream of asking anything though.

Salonselectives · 29/03/2023 13:39

I'd be distracted by your amazing waist. If I noticed the scar I'd wonder about the story behind it.

Your scar is amazingly neat though, very central, straight and clean. If you keep it out of the sun for the first 12 months you'll give it the best chance to fully heal.

Could a swimsuit similar to https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1050247003.html this work?

Not sure how you're maintaining it but I have a bad facial scar and these have been really effective:
silicone scar tape or sheets (cheap and reusable from Amazon) or
IS Clinical Sheald Recovery Balm (expensive).

Pheefifofuckthisshit · 29/03/2023 13:39

I'd not think anything at all.

I have a massive skin graft scar. I wear a costume at the local pool and a bikini on holiday. Wear whatever you'd have worn before!

Scars are the signs of a survivor. Nothing more.

Carlycat · 29/03/2023 13:40

No one will care. Just wear sunblock along the incision

Lwrenagain · 29/03/2023 13:43

I dont have a bikini figure, unlike you who has an amazing one, but I do have surgery scars and I wouldn't really want to be asked about them.
Only because its triggering for me why I had the surgery. If I wasn't still upset by it, I'd have no problems!
If you're not bothered about questions you 100% should because you look amazing and your scar is really neat.
Also, my scars aren't as red anymore, took a while but they have faded.
But you'd look stunning in a bikini and have a wonderful holiday!

Also, when people do ask questions, I don't think it'll be from a place of malice, just genuine interest. If you're not comfortable disclosing why as I wouldn't be, especially on holiday and you don't want to have to tell someone to mind their own, make up a story.
Youre on hols, make out you're a international spy who was captured or something wild, have some fun!

Snugglemonkey · 29/03/2023 13:44

Anyone asking anything would be very rude! You wear what you like!

RosesInWater · 29/03/2023 13:57

To protect from UV potential damage, could you source a swimsuit that has a slim panel like thing down the front between top and bottoms. Sorry I am not explaining well, but it would show off your figure and protect your scar. I think they are called monokini.

CantGetDecentNickname · 29/03/2023 13:58

Good call OP, to give it time to heal. I recommend scar reduction patches. They make it more red to start with but then it really does fade. How about a cutaway swimsuit for this year?

If people ever dare to ask you questions, you can just say "how rude you are" to them. None of their business and decent people won't comment.

Have a great holiday!

HumourReplacementTherapy · 29/03/2023 14:08

If anything at all I'd genuinely think "wow she's been through it and bravo to her!" You have a lovely figure
But yes, do watch out in the sun & enjoy your hols. Smile
(I wear an insulin pump so have tgat attached to me 24/7 via a cannula as well as wearing a continuous glucose monitor.... I give no shits and people are lovely about it, some ask questions which I don't mind, others flash theirs back at me in T1 solidarity 😊

Xarrie · 29/03/2023 14:09

If I noticed, I'd think you'd had a tummy tick and I'd be envious of your cracking figure.

Then I'd go back to my book.

Nottodayicant · 29/03/2023 14:12

I would look at you alright and admire that fab figure! The scar wouldn't even pique my interest.

megletthesecond · 29/03/2023 14:13

I'd wonder what it was for then carry on squinnying about how cold the water is even though I'm in a wetsuit
Just don't frazzle it in the sun while it heals.

Milkhoney · 29/03/2023 14:15

I would think to myself, Wow, that woman has been through it. And then I'd think of what I was going to eat next.
Myself and my husband both have some pretty large, obvious scars that are on show in swimwear and I've rarely caught anyone staring - though I wouldn't care if they did, I am proud we've come through the cause of the scars. Never had anyone comment on them to either of us.

brainexplorer · 29/03/2023 14:17

I have an almost identical scar! But 7 yrs old and very faded/silver now apart from some keloid scarring at the top. I wouldn’t have worn a bikini early in because I would have been sensitive about curiosity and it is an unusual thing to see. I couldn't blame a child or childish adult for asking questions. However now I’m more comfortable talking about it I would. So it’s not the scar fading as much as my social discomfort if that makes sense. If you’re ready to acknowledge it then it doesn’t matter who sees it!

MrMarkham · 29/03/2023 14:19

I would think, wow she's got an amazing figure. While probably stuffing myself with wine and snacks and bemoaning my lardy stomach.

Mrsjayy · 29/03/2023 14:19

Wear your bikini it doesn't matter what people think not a jot. As pp said remember your sun cream scarring is delicate .

I would assume you've had a tummy tuck and think you look fantastic and be jealous that I can't afford one 😂

But that's not a tummy tuck scar
