What would you think if someone wore a bikini with this scarring?

Approximately 4 months out and it's still red it will be another 4 months before I go on holiday . I'm wondering whether to wear a bikini even if it's not fully white or will people ask me questions etc?

OP posts:
lifeissweet · 29/03/2023 12:38

I have a similar scar from a laparotomy.
It's white now, but even when it wasn't, I never really gave it a second thought. No one else does either.

I'm far more self conscious about my psoriasis, as it looks like it might be contagious and is a bit more unpleasant.

The scar just looks like you had surgery. No biggie!

GastonHaugh · 29/03/2023 12:38

Wouldn’t even register with me. I’d be too busy thinking about my own wobbly bits.

WashableVelvet · 29/03/2023 12:39

I’d be envious of your amazing waist, and wouldn’t really clock the scar tbh. I tend to take in overall impressions not focus on details. Particularly as - unlike in that photo - you’d be in 3D and have shoulders legs and a head!

fwiw my CS scar faded quite a bit between 4m and 8m. Not to white but to paler pink.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 29/03/2023 12:40

Be envious.

DustyLee123 · 29/03/2023 12:41

I’d think ‘good for you’.

annonymousse · 29/03/2023 12:23

I might or might not notice it. If I thought anything at all it would be sympathy for the past surgery and admiration for coming through it and not hiding it. Also envy of your figure 😊

This.

Hop27 · 29/03/2023 12:42

Honestly I'd be too busy enjoying my holiday to notice. But if, and I mean IF you want to cover it I'll send you details on amazing scar tape. It helps the healing, is completely waterproof and blends with your skin tone.
I shower with mine on a couple of times a day and it survives a hard training session.
I have a horrible scar on my arm, plastic team recommended it - and it stopped all the questions from idiots at work. It's extremely cheap too.
Plus, from a healing pov, don't expose fragile skin to sun!!!!!
Have a fabulous holiday OP (wear lots of sunscreen or zinc if you do expose it to
UV, there are skin coloured zincs too)

I'd think nothing. Genuinely. I'd observe that you'd had surgery, puck my book up and have another sip of my cocktail.

I'd think "wow, a warrior!" and be totally jealous in awe of your great body.

This 👆🙌

momager1 · 29/03/2023 12:45

I have a large scar on my stomach after major emerg surgery last april 1. mine looks like a smile and goes beside and under my belly button. picture my belly button as a nose with a very large smile under it. I wore a bikini in January without an issue HOWEVER Lots of sunscreen is needed. Also mine was faded to white by about 6 months but after all the dressings were off and the staples removed, I applied bio oil 3x a day and I believe that stuff is magic!!
Don't worry. No one will bat an eye!!!

LoveLabradors · 29/03/2023 12:45

I would simply briefly notice that you’ve had surgery and think you have a great figure too. Please be careful with the sun on your scar though as it looks quite new. Absolutely wear a bikini. I have old scars on my stomach from operations and have always worn a bikini - never occurred to me not to! Much prefer them to a one piece.

mac1974 · 29/03/2023 12:46

I would think survivor.

I've finally come to the conclusion that although my body isn't perfect it's healthy and has served me well & grown 2 kids. Nothing dramatic has happened to me....I've been very lucky.....but we should be proud of what our bodies have been through and stop being self conscious of them. How many times to we go on holiday & actually see the insta perfect bodies? Not that often in my experience

Have a fabulous holiday x

TheNine · 29/03/2023 12:47

I would think wow, she looks absolutely amazing ♥️ just make sure you use a good waterproof factor 50+ on the healing area. Have a brilliant holiday!

ThePurpleOctopus · 29/03/2023 12:49

I know it's not AIBU, but I think YABU for featuring a photo where you're the main star and not your cat, who I can only see slightly.

I'm far more interested in your cat than your scar Grin

ditalini · 29/03/2023 12:49

Yes there are some people who will look and ask questions - a very small minority, but there's no point pretending that they don't exist. Most people will clock it and ignore, some people won't even notice.

If it would bother you for people to ask about it, or you think you'll be on edge waiting for someone to ask or openly stare, then just chuck on a top when you're out of the water.

If it wouldn't bother you to catch the odd person staring or for someone to maybe say "what happened to you then?", then go for it (but yes, sunblock if you have a new scar is a must).

Gincan · 29/03/2023 12:49

I might not even notice but if I did I'd think "wow that's impressively long, she must be tough as nails"
I would never ask you about it, it's none of my business! If any one does just tell them you don't want to talk about it. Or tell them you were abducted by aliens... or you got it in the Vietnam war.

You have a great figure and will look amazing. Enjoy your holiday

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 29/03/2023 12:50

I have the same scar (2 weeks post op), and will be wearing a bikini on holiday.

I don't care what people think and neither should you

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/03/2023 12:51

I'd think, wow, she had an amazing figure Wink

Robotik · 29/03/2023 12:53

I’d not notice, but if I did I’d think ooh I wonder what happened, I hope she’s ok now. That’s it.

i Would tell anyone who asked that I was bitten by a shark or something daft.

LadyKenya · 29/03/2023 12:54

I would wonder what surgery you had undergone. But that is it. I would not come up to you to inquire about it though.

Veenah · 29/03/2023 12:55

I have a large and unusual scar and was nervous of wearing a bikini for the first time after the surgery. After the first time, I haven't given it a second thought. No one's ever commented on it. As others have said, be careful of it in the sun on it.

stevalnamechanger · 29/03/2023 12:57

Well from a scarring perspective UV isn't great for scars so you'd be best to cover it

But you look amazing and I fully sport everyone to wear what they want

Daftasabroom · 29/03/2023 12:58

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/03/2023 12:19

I wouldn't wear a bikini only as you should be careful getting sun on recent scars.

Hoppinggreen · 29/03/2023 12:58

Anyone who stares or who asks questions is a Dick and therefore their opinions dint count
