What would you think if someone wore a bikini with this scarring?

Approximately 4 months out and it's still red it will be another 4 months before I go on holiday . I'm wondering whether to wear a bikini even if it's not fully white or will people ask me questions etc?

Id think : good for you, and haven't you got a fantastic waistline. Go for it.

Kanaloa · 29/03/2023 22:20

I have a scar just like yours! Mine has gone white in some parts but even years on is still pink at the top, so I wouldn’t say it will definitely go white. I would wear the bikini - people care sooo much less than you think they do. You’ll look great, you just have a scar too. Although I will say be careful of the sun! But then that goes for the whole body too.

Kanaloa · 29/03/2023 22:23

Although I will say my scar is not quite so neat as yours! You look like you were stitched up by my old home economics teacher. She really thought anyone who couldn’t sew in a straight line wasn’t worth the air they were breathing.

I don’t overly worry about fading mine either. I like it - I wouldn’t want it to fade away! But I also wouldn’t want to hurt my skin which is why I mention watching out for the sun. Sometimes it is more powerful than it feels, I got burned last year in the garden with the kids - it didn’t even feel warm at all. But it obviously was enough to burn me.

I'd just make sure you have an answer ready for the random 6 year olds who'll ask

"I had a fight with a dinosaur" should do it

Campervangirl · 29/03/2023 22:35

If I even noticed I'd think you were a warrior and that was your battle wound, the sign of a true survivor ❤️

Like it! 🙂

AbsolutePixels · 30/03/2023 09:24

Just put on some fake tan and a load of sunscreen to protect the scar. You'll look great.

AbsolutePixels · 30/03/2023 09:27

I haven't RTFT, so apologies if this has already been suggested: you can take a high-dose vitamin C supplement and use silicone pads to accelerate healing and improve the cosmetic outcome.

Penguinsmum · 30/03/2023 10:31

I'd think you have a lovely slim figure 😻

Lemursandions · 30/03/2023 10:36

I have had significant surgery scars since my late teens ( mainly on legs though and non surgery scar on face). Have to say no one has ever asked me about them!

I agree you will need a really strong sun block though to prevent burning. Not all of mine have faded to white - some remain pink 25 years on.

THisbackwithavengeance · 30/03/2023 12:49

I wouldn't notice your scar as I would be admiring your slim waist and lovely figure.

FartSock5000 · 30/03/2023 12:57

@Fifi1010 not only is your figure stunning but you should rock a bikini IF you feel good doing so.

That line could be a tattoo from a distance. Sure, some may stare because they can't work out what it is but you can't live your life afraid of how others think or feel.

You wear what makes you feel good.

BUT i'd also check with your surgeon on sun tanning with a fresh scar as you wouldn't want to hinder healing or have the suns rays react with any oils or creams you may be using to help the healing process.

Enjoy your holiday!

NotCopingWell1 · 30/03/2023 12:59

I'd think gosh that person must have had really serous surgery I hope they're OK. But nothing negative.

On a side note, have you tried kelo cote silicone gel? Silicone is great for healing scars. As well as helping improve their appearance massaging it in can reduce the risk of keloids forming too. I used it on my c section scar.

StarlightLady · 30/03/2023 13:10

Sensible people would think that you've had surgery and survived. Daft people are not worth thinking about.

I saw a woman on the beach last summer who was topless and had a mastectomy. I take my hat off to her (and my bikini top!). More power to her I say.

Take care OP and I hope you stay healthy x

hashisucks · 30/03/2023 15:20

I will also have scars (different place but similarly extensive) of around the same stage when I go on holiday this year. I wouldn't worry at all about what people think but my surgeon has been VERY emphatic that I should wear a spf50 rash guard over sunblock unless I want them to stay pink! (as lots of folk have already mentioned :-)

tobi21 · 30/03/2023 16:02

I wouldn't think of the scar at all I'd be thinking what an amazing figure you have!! Go for it Smile

MsDastardley · 30/03/2023 17:59

Hop27 · 29/03/2023 12:42

Honestly I'd be too busy enjoying my holiday to notice. But if, and I mean IF you want to cover it I'll send you details on amazing scar tape. It helps the healing, is completely waterproof and blends with your skin tone.
I shower with mine on a couple of times a day and it survives a hard training session.
I have a horrible scar on my arm, plastic team recommended it - and it stopped all the questions from idiots at work. It's extremely cheap too.
Plus, from a healing pov, don't expose fragile skin to sun!!!!!
Have a fabulous holiday OP (wear lots of sunscreen or zinc if you do expose it to
UV, there are skin coloured zincs too)

Could you please let me have details. I’ve recently had same operation at op. Thanks

maddy68 · 30/03/2023 18:48

I honestly wouldn't notice. I'm too busy hiding my flab

farnhamgal · 30/03/2023 19:34

I have similar OP from cancer surgery.
I wore a bikini a year later. Wear it with pride. I've only had one comment on honeymoon and it was 'gosh that's a big scar, you
Should be proud of that!' And I sure am. My scar now you can barely see it. It's just a skinny white line. I've also been pregnant since and it's fine.
Wear it with pride OP!

farnhamgal · 30/03/2023 19:35

I've also got no belly button. Nobody has battered an eyelid and I wouldn't care if they would.

My scar took about 18 months to go white.

It started to fade to pink after about 4 months.

farnhamgal · 30/03/2023 19:35

Last one promise!

COVER it in sun cream. Mine was so sensitive in the sun even with loads of sun cream slathered on.

PurpleAirGuitar · 30/03/2023 20:28

I have a friend who was in a very serious accident many years ago and has scars all over her body. She's a keen swimmer and is not in the least self-conscious (or if she is, she hides it well). I wouldn't judge you for showing that scar in public at all, but I agree with the others who say to take good care of it in the sun while it's still fresh.

MsFogi · 30/03/2023 22:55

I'd be v jealous of your flat stomach and not think anything of your scar.

FastFood · 31/03/2023 09:38

I wouldn't think anything except that you went through quite something and I would be happy for you that you're able to enjoy yourself.

whathaveidonetomydc · 31/03/2023 09:47

It's so incredibly neat that it doesn't look like a scar! My first thought was that it was a pregnancy line Blush
On a side note, a few posters have shared huge scars from cancer surgery, can I just say you are amazing and wishing you all the best of health 💐
