Have you had your colours done? What did you think?

I always said I'd never do it as I associate it with women in huge bright patterns and chunky necklaces. No idea why!

But decided to bite the bullet after realising my wardrobe is just every colour under the sun

I was surprised to be a deep/dark autumn. No idea I was surprised tbh but I was

It makes sense now I think about it more but I definitely wanted to be a bright summer or something!

I didn't even know thi was still a thing

mum11970 · 07/03/2023 19:10

No but I love to have it done. Tried googling prices once but seemed way more expensive than I thought it would be.

Rockgardens · 07/03/2023 19:12

I had it done remotely by Emily from style me happy, it was £35 so I thought I’d give it a go.

I was really pleased with my results…partly because I turned out to be the season I wanted to and black is a good colour for me 😂

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 19:15

@Rockgardens I take it you were perhaps a winter season?

OP posts:
BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 19:16

@Somebodiesmother well only if you want it to be a thing I suppose!

I know it's got some old fashioned naff connotations but I've gotta say that when you I know what really suits you, it does make a difference

As well as having my colours done, I also have had my body shape done and go twice a year to a a lady in Berkshire (even though I live in the north west) who orders in clothes for me to try at hers. It is fabulous. The clothes are a mixture of inexpensive & slightly more expensive brands and I pay her for the time she spends shopping on my behalf and the time I spend with her trying them on. It’s amazing and costs me less than shopping used to do as I have a small wardrobe of clothes that I love to wear and I literally don’t spend money on clothes between sessions.
I have had significant health issues in the last few years and gained a lot of weight whilst unable to exercise and there has been some stress overeating too. I was starting to hate getting invites to parties, weddings etc as I wasn’t slim and couldn’t find outfits that made me feel good. This has changed all that and I’m starting to get fitter and a healthier weight again and love going out too.

Rockgardens · 07/03/2023 19:40

@BatFaceOwl yes true winter

Rockgardens · 07/03/2023 19:41

Actually the analysis said cool winter now I’ve checked but I think true and cool are basically the same thing

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 19:43

I bet that means you can wear jewel tones does it?

Well I've made a small step in the direction of accepting my colours and had my nails done in a dark burgundy. Grin

@Fellsidefeather that sounds great!

Total waste of time and money when I had it done - the woman doing mine seemed pretty clueless.

iwantawisteriathisyear · 07/03/2023 19:45

My friends and I had our colours done for a bit of a laugh about 10 years ago. It has been invaluable. I am a soft autumn so not supposed to wear black. I do wear it but not next to my face. I don't waste money on clothes I won't wear or make up that looks wrong.

LadyEloise1 · 07/03/2023 19:45

I wasn't sure whether I'm a Light Spring or Light Summer.
Today I tried on a lilac fleece and a deep peachy red fleece.
No contest - the lilac completely drained me. I must be a Light Spring.

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 19:47

@MsFogi that's a shame. Did you not believe what you came out as or did she not seem to know what she was doing?

iwantawisteriathisyear · 07/03/2023 19:47

I also don't wear scarves or big jewellery. I just wear normal clothes and don't dress like a childrens tv presenter

KatharinaRosalie · 07/03/2023 19:49

Oh it's all over TikTok so it's not still a thing, it's a thing again.
I was just talking to a colleague about it, she's clearly summer and was wearing this pale blue sweater that made her eyes look amazing.

lmnabc · 07/03/2023 19:49

I'm from the days of Colour Me Beautiful. A summer when I'd rather be spring. It certainly all makes sense though as I do look best in the summer palette .

Fellsidefeather · 07/03/2023 19:53

Like every job, some people are better than others. This is the second person and she tailors things to me so whilst my style is dramatic, I also leave in rural Cumbria with sheep for neighbours so there isn’t a lot of opportunity to wear gorgeous pink suede boots!

CharmedUndead · 07/03/2023 19:54

I've never understood this - so explain to me what 'having your colours done' is. I mean, don't we all know which colours look good on us, and which make us look sickly/tired/odd?

@Fellsidefeather Your shopping assistant sounds great! That, I understand paying for.

crispinglovershighkick · 07/03/2023 20:03

Hey, fellow dark/blue autumn here 👋🏽
My mum and I had colour and style analysis when things opened after covid and DH was so impressed with the results that he had his done too.
Everything goes together and is flattering and now I understand why some styles suit me and others don't.

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 20:09

@CharmedUndead sort of and also, sort of not. I Suspected that pale pink and lilac maybe weren't my friends but it just didn't know what actually suited me. Hence a wardrobe bursting with any colour that takes my fancy when shopping

I genuinely didn't know that olive, chocolate brown, true red, bronze, burgundy, forest green, turquoise etc etc were my colours.

It does make a difference as I now know not to pick up another bright white t shirt or denim blue top etc

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 20:13

@crispinglovershighkick ooh what's a blue autumn?

I do want tk get this done, any recommendations for in the NW?

KatharinaRosalie · 07/03/2023 20:25

I mean, don't we all know which colours look good on us, and which make us look sickly/tired/odd?

Not necessarily, many people convince themselves they look good in colours simply because they like certain shades, or someone once told them they look good in X and that's what they wear. I have a friend who was once told she suits in earth tones, so she was always in brown and muted green, but she's actually a winter and looked like a different person in jewel tones.
