I always said I'd never do it as I associate it with women in huge bright patterns and chunky necklaces. No idea why!

But decided to bite the bullet after realising my wardrobe is just every colour under the sun

I was surprised to be a deep/dark autumn. No idea I was surprised tbh but I was

It makes sense now I think about it more but I definitely wanted to be a bright summer or something!

I had mine done 10years ago after my last baby, I was living in black, blue and purple.
Turns out I'm a warm and deep Autumn. I was hoping it was Winter. I was gutted and had to mourn my black days and slowly replaced all bags, shoes and coats from black to tan, my jewellery from white gold to yellow gold.
I love my Autumnal colours now and find shopping an absolute doddle. Online shopping, easy to filter the colours and sizes then glance through the styles that I like.

Youmeandacupoftea · 31/03/2023 15:56

I’ve just had mine and I’m a warm autumn/muted summer which I think is right despite all the black I wear which I’ll now slowly cull!
Those of you who are warm autumn or muted summer, do you have any favourite shops or brands that are good for these colours you could recommend please? TIA x

tobee · 31/03/2023 17:03

I would recommend if you use a company with a good returns service if online shopping! I ordered a few t shirts and tops for summer. Some of what turned up were bang on the shade shown online. And some were entirely different.

favourite shops or brands

First had my 'colours done' in the late 1980's so been in the game some time.

The game changer for me as a soft, blue autumn was been Dylon machine dye. I first tried it during the first lockdown, figuring that if I wasn't meeting anyone it wouldn't matter if it all went wrong.

I tend to buy clothes with a good proportion of natural fibres, looking for styles and shapes that work for me.

Emerald green on mid blue denim produces a lovely deep teal.

Dye remover followed by different intensities of olive green provides a range of colours from pale to very dark green.

Never had so many clothes to choose from each day. 😀

BatFaceOwl · 31/03/2023 22:56

@WalkAwaySugarbear I'm a deep autumn as per my op but what in earth are you buying to make shopping such a doddle?

Because right now, I can't find anything spring or summer like in bloody brown, forest green or rust tbh! Grin

OP Kettlewell will have all your blue autumn colours in spring and summer styles. Good for basics.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 31/03/2023 23:40

@BatFaceOwl my main colours are in tops: t-shirt/ vests/ jumpers/ shirts. I have a full rainbow from rusty reds, dusky pink, orange, mustard, mid to dark greens (forest and khaki), browns, taupes and beige. I have the odd cream top but I like colour now. I generally stick to dark navy jeans for day to day wear which go with all the above tops but I have skirts, dresses and trousers in some of the above colours to mix and match. I have long cardigans in beige and brown that go everything.
I have coats and jackets in brown, khaki, navy, beige.
My shoes are beige, tan, green and dark red.
Handbags are in tan and red.
Hope that helps.

This time of year is the toughest to shop for autumn colours except for when khaki was everywhere. End of summer to winter you'll see the darker, warmer and muted colours come out.

I could be wrong but I dont think you can we an Autumn AND a Summer, as the former is warm toned and the latter is cool toned.

She said I could wear some of the colours in muted summer as it’s next to muted autumn on the colour wheel and it seems to be darker/warmer shades on the summer spectrum from what I can gather. So I’m thinking colours like dusky pink, mid and denim blue and sage green/light olive etc. I could be wrong but I’ll have an experiment with these type of shades over the summer and see how it goes. I’ll probably end up sticking to neutrals but I’d like to inject some colour.
Come September I’ll be fine when all the autumnal colours come out but I’ll try and keep my summer wardrobe as muted as possible and see how I go. It’ll be an improvement from all the black anyway 😂

I know what you mean. As a jewel winter I find clothes shopping in late summer/autumn very difficult as there is very little in my colour range.

BatFaceOwl · 01/04/2023 09:44

@crispinglovershighkick that's very helpful thank you.

Do we think something in these colours would suit a deep autumn?

Have you had your colours done? What did you think?

Summer is cool toned and Autumn warm, so I think you have been misdiagnosed!

nilsmousehammer · 01/04/2023 11:15

If you go with the twelve season version then there is soft summer and soft autumn who touch on the wheel and some warm end soft summers may be able to borrow some of the soft autumn colours without going too warm.

Yes this is what I had, hence the borrow into soft/muted summer x

I had the 12 season analysis so can borrow some muted/soft summer colours before the colours move into cooler, brighter summer proper

Cantonet · 01/04/2023 12:12

I have soft summer/ soft autumn colouring too. I can wear most shades of green or blue apart from neons & electric blue. The same with pink, as in bright blue toned fuchsia looks awful but raspberry pink is fine. Strangely mustard & peachy coral shades look great on me too.
I tend to wear lighter shades of my colours in the summer - indigo, denim blue, cornflower & turquoise & darker shades in winter. So lots of navy & cobalt. A good neutral for me is a dark khaki. Lots of darker greens & mustard accessories in winter. I also suit most warm toned leopard prints.
Soft pinks or peaches for lipsticks. Red lipsticks don't suit me at all.

Do you have any favourite shops or brands where you tend to find your colours easily?

Cantonet · 02/04/2023 11:04

Literally anywhere - M&S, Whistles, Jigsaw, H&M, Jaeger. Most recently a few bits from M&S but I have summery blue skirts from Monsoon I've had for years that I bring out every year. Plus a huge back catalogue of Cashmere.
Attached are recent 💙

  1. M&S Cashmere
  2. M&S Tencel denim look Shirt
  3. H&M Muslin Shirt

Thank you so much for replying - those tops look lovely. Thanks again, I really appreciate it 😊

TheLeadbetterLife · 06/04/2023 13:26

I've just had my analysis back from Style Me Happy - dark Autumn. I expected to be an Autumn, but maybe not dark, which is interesting.

Most of the colours are ones I already like and wear, but there are some surprises for me. I've always known purple looks bad on me, but she recommends plum, so I might give that a try.

I'm also going to try embracing lipstick more. I've always found it a bit of a faff, but I do like how it looks, and now I'm in my 40s I can get away with a more mature look (I'm pretty scruffy most of the time).

TheLeadbetterLife · 10/04/2023 17:54

I’ve just been out to buy some new t shirts - first shopping I’ve done since receiving my colour analysis. I found I was much more focussed and chose neutrals that I wouldn’t have otherwise done.

I look so much better in these colours, and it’s really helped me, as I don’t buy many clothes and just maintain a capsule wardrobe (I mainly work from home and don’t need to dress formally much, so a handful of outfits is all I need).

I also found a website that advises on clothing styles to flatter your shape (rectangle in my case), and that helps me narrow things down even more.

such a revelation all round, as I’ve always struggled with knowing how to dress well, although I like to look nice.

LadyAstor · 10/04/2023 20:01

I find the greatest challenge is finding things that suit your colour and shape, once you know.

Everything in the shops seems to be geared towards pear-shaped Autumns, which is a bit depressing if you're a Spring inverted triangle.

TheLeadbetterLife · 10/04/2023 21:01

Yes I've struck lucky in that all the shops are currently stocking a lot of things in my colours. Which they haven't for a few years. Can't remember when I last saw so much brown.

RampantIvy · 10/04/2023 21:11

Same with emerald green for me.

WeRateSquirrels · 11/04/2023 17:13

Having thought I was a spring, I just got draped as a soft summer. Which is funnily enough what that app came up with!
