Have you had your colours done? What did you think?

I always said I'd never do it as I associate it with women in huge bright patterns and chunky necklaces. No idea why!

But decided to bite the bullet after realising my wardrobe is just every colour under the sun

I was surprised to be a deep/dark autumn. No idea I was surprised tbh but I was

It makes sense now I think about it more but I definitely wanted to be a bright summer or something!

A case in point is a dress I recently bought. It's got a lilac base and has flowers on it. It was quite pricey - from Whistles.

I bought it because I liked the dress and thought 'that'll be nice for work when it gets a bit warmer!'

I didn't stop to think if the colours suited me. The dress shape does and I like Whistles stuff so I didn't think much beyond that

I can now see that lilac and flowers aren't me

@SirVixofVixHall Red Leopard. Online which made it cheaper but it is not a purse friendly consultation. I nearly went with Emily Innes who I'd really recommend if you just want your colours done as a stand alone - think she charges £30 and she has lots of satisfied customers. Look past her own style btw if that's not your thing!

I'm be had friends use her and all very happy

Yes, I did it a few years ago. Blue Spring, thought I’d be Summer.

CandlelightGlow · 07/03/2023 20:46

I'm interested in the colours thing but I don't get what happens if you don't stick to your natural features, for example I naturally have dark cool toned hair and pale skin, but my skin has neutral undertones and my eye colour is very warm, I like to have a golden glow and golden brown highlights in my hair.

It's not my natural palette but I feel like it compliments my eye colour and general features so much more, so I have no idea whether to bother with the season thing or not. Anyone in a similar position, did whoever was conducting the tests say anything about using natural hair colour vs current hair colour?

Sarain · 07/03/2023 20:51

@Fellsidefeather would you share her contact details pls?

OffToThatPlace · 07/03/2023 20:55

The Colour Me Beautiful consultant I saw took great pleasure in body shaming me, 'diagnosing' me as a round faced apple body shape, when I clearly have an oval or long face shape and cello body shape.

Waste of money and came away feeling even lower about myself.

daimtheman · 07/03/2023 20:59

I think even if there's any truth in it, I would refuse to acknowledge it because it all sounds so daddy and naff.

I like clothes and think I know what suits me but I can't say I care enough to rule out loads of colours I could wear.

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 20:59

@OffToThatPlace that sounds awful

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 20:13

@crispinglovershighkick ooh what's a blue autumn?

Same as you, the cooler end of autumn. I went to RL too!

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 21:01

@daimtheman it definitely has a naff vibe to it for some people, yes.

But it doesn't 'rule out' anything. There are no rules which say you can't wear black because you're a spring or whatever. There's no colour analysis prison Grin

Better to view it as 'these are the colours that suit you best and bring out your features'

Unfortunately those I've known to do this have been obsessives and one carried around swatches. I guess that's put me off but even so, I'm quite contrary so it's not for me. 😄

senua · 07/03/2023 21:11

And they are also the colours that suit each other, so you know that every item in your wardrobe will go with everything else.
I used to have a set of swatches when I first started but I don't need them any more because it's now second nature.

Holeymoleymacaroni · 07/03/2023 21:13

Think I need to do this as I genuinely don't know what colours suit me!

How do they work it out? Do you send photos?

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 21:14

@Holeymoleymacaroni yes, if you choose to do it online. Maybe some photos of you without make up, one with make up (if you wear it) and they'll let you know if they want anything else - depending on who you go with

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 21:16

So, my hair is a medium brown with natural warm tints. My eyes are brown - not hazel but also not a very dark brown. My skin is fair/light but I am not pale.

So I am probably quite a typical autumn!

Mine made sense to me (jewel winter) and I was surprised how I'll the cream / beige tone drapes were next to my face! I already had a wardrobe full of black and white and it made me explore brighter colours (cobalt / emerald / cerise). She did try to flog me loads of make up when I had said I don't really wear make up but think it was worth it overall as I don't enjoy clothes shopping and it really helps home in on the colours which will suit me. I do wonder as I go increasingly grey (hair was v dark brown when I had the analysis about 15 years ago) whether my palate will change subtly.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 07/03/2023 21:21

I had mine done some years ago. One of the best things I have ever done.

I think I sort of knew what suited me colour-wise and what didn't, and this made it really easy to understand why.

I used House of Colour.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 07/03/2023 21:29

Colour and style analysis have saved me a ton of money and time over the years because I don't buy clothes that don't suit me any more. I get pretty regular compliments about my clothes/jewellery and how they go together. It takes almost no effort. The analysis was a massive move towards trying to feel less mumsy and tired looking and establish a professional identity. It worked.

CambsAlways · 07/03/2023 21:29

I had mine done several years ago was told I was Autumn wasn’t a fan of many of the colour palette I was shown I’m now growing out my dark brown hair and letting silver come through, I hope I’m more of a summer 🤣 as I like the colours more

FinallyHere · 07/03/2023 21:33

@Fellsidefeather

I'm very interested in your 'lady in Berkshire' who sounds brilliant. Would you provide details here on the thread or in a PM

Many thanks

Bobbi730 · 07/03/2023 21:39

My friend treated me to a colours appointment with house of colour. I was quite sceptical but the consultant was really knowledgeable and it was brilliant. I thought I couldn't wear lots of colours but when she showed me the tones that suited me, it was a total revelation. I now know what colours suit me (not black!) and I know I look better for it.
I like the idea of someone shopping for me too x

Porridgeislife · 07/03/2023 21:41

I had mine done by House of Colour & it was brilliant. I’m another autumn and a natural classic. It makes shopping very easy.

Some people do take it far too literally and end up wearing a million different colours at once and frankly look awful, but at least they’re in flattering colours.

Puffalicious · 07/03/2023 21:52

I'm interested in getting this done for sure. I'm confused when I google the colours as I look best in a real combination!

Any blue really, but cobalt/ denim/ cornflower are best, also pinks but best are pale pink/ fuschia/ coral. I also suit red and a true, bright green and it must be white- anything cream/ beige looks totally crap on me, ditto browns/ olives/ burgundies. I love navy. I wear black only with a slick of bright lipstick in the winter.

Blue eyes, medium skin and originally mousey/ dark blonde now light grey/ blonde (natural).

Any ideas anyone?

BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 21:53

@Porridgeislife ha yes I suppose the temptation might be to try and throw ALL your colours on instead of just maybe a top or something.

I intend to just start small. I'll still wear black but just try and keep it away from my face

I also won't start wearing scarves or costume jewellery

OP posts:
BatFaceOwl · 07/03/2023 21:54

@Puffalicious clearly I'm no expert but I'd hazard a guess that you're a bright spring
