What have you wasted money on recently?

I had my very pale eyebrows shaped and dyed but it wore off after a few days and the wax caused ingrown hairs. I'll stick to dying and shaping them myself.

I also had my eyelashes dyed and permed (up, not curled over iyswim) I liked the dye and will have that done again but the perm was just completely pointless. 🤣

What have you splashed out on recently and afterwards wondered why?

I bought some magnetic lashes. Biggest waste of £35. I don't know what I was thinking!

Jewelanemone · 29/01/2023 21:38

I bought a tube of The Ordinary eyelash and eyebrow serum. I expected my lashes to be long and thick by now but they don't look any bloody different. Thank goodness it was only a tenner.

Usernamen · 29/01/2023 21:39

MAC Snob.

Doesn’t suit me, sadly.

peaceandpotato · 29/01/2023 21:40

Hourglass foundation

Penguinsaregreat · 29/01/2023 21:41

A couple of sports bras from m & s. Supposedly firm support. They absolutely are not. Ok for Pilates or yoga, I can’t wear them for anything which involves jumping, jogging, star jumps or quick movements. Also I need dh to fasten them as the straps have to be crossed over at the back,

dontgobaconmyheart · 29/01/2023 21:46

I stupidly bought the wrong shade of foundation in error last week and despite trying to tell myself I can make it work I obviously can't and DP commented that my skin looked very yellow today and asked why it looked that way, so that's definitely no more.

I don't often try new things makeup wise simply because I hate wasting money if they aren't right.

I have the same ... hate the skinny wee thing

No difference at all

Stripe and Stare knickers. Absolutely shocking quality.
Really, really thin material but really expensive. They saw me coming.

ScrappyMoggy · 29/01/2023 21:52

Glow recipe watermelon glow. Wasted £31 on a bottle hoping it would give me a nice glow finish. It was sticky and made me breakout. Complete waste of money, not really sure what to do with the rest of the bottle, I only used it a handful of times.

mistopheles · 29/01/2023 21:54

£600 on an annual gym membership. I haven't been for months.

I'm glad I wasn't tempted to buy one of the really expensive lash serums. Although maybe the 90 quid ones actually work! 😆

JaceLancs · 29/01/2023 22:07

A missoni poncho in tkmaxx clearance which I wore once

spuddel · 29/01/2023 22:12

Olverum dry body oil, £41 and I loathe the smell of it, despite loving the Olverum bath oil. Smells rancid, like old essential oil on a towel. Also an Espa candle that burned half way down then stopped.

On the plus side, my £30 a month hotel gym membership has been worth every penny. Sauna, steam room, pool, gym and I used it four times a week at least.

MairzyDoats · 29/01/2023 22:22

Georgiemane hair growth spray. I knew it wouldn't work but couldn't stop myself from wanting to believe :(

TheChosenTwo · 29/01/2023 22:26

@spuddel i binned an olverum body lotion recently as it just stank. Quite expensive iirc and I bought online so hadn’t smelt it in person, it was hideous, even the dds couldn’t be convinced to use it - that was how i knew it was really bad!
I bought the Mac Stack mascara recently, waste of money because although it’s very good at what it does and I believe it lives up to its claims, it just highlights that I have literally about 10 eyelashes on each eye 😂 - those 10 lashes look fabulous but my god my lashes are sparse. it’s been relegated to the drawer of doom.

heartbeatacrossthegrass · 29/01/2023 22:30

Olverum body products suck IME. So weird because the bath oil is absolutely lovely.

I spent £300 on two beauty advent calendars this year and in hindsight it was a total waste of money. I should have just spent £300 on products I actually want.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 29/01/2023 22:35

Mmm quite a few things.

I got sucked into the joules welly sale and am now the proud owner of a pair of black and yellow short wellibobs with butterflies on them Confused

The Roka sample bag sale.

Am the proud owner of a plum small bag that I will probably never even use.

I spent £40 on an all singing all dancing mascara to try and make mine look less sparse as well as a Charlotte til hey dup foundation. Both are absolute shite and as I've opened them both I can't send them back ffs

I'm a sucker for lounge wear. I bough yet another set last week and then found the exact same set in my wardrobe never worn. Blush

Oh out of three pairs of hood winter boots I only wear one pair as the others feel too tight on my calf's

False eyelashes. Lasted less than a week and gave me an allergic reaction too. Total waste of £40.

Habreathmint · 29/01/2023 22:42

Sidsley black rose oil AND cream. Absolute shit despite the fact I've already tried samples that did fuck all, I STILL wasted my money! 🤣

Hourglass foundation

I don’t think I’ve ever bought Hourglass products that have been worth the money and/or hype. I’ve tried lipgloss, powder, bronzer, concealer, glittery eyeshadow and it’s all been very expensive and completely meh. I need to remember this when I’m tempted again…

AmIreallyBeverly · 29/01/2023 23:26

I'd recommend UKLash for growth. Honestly, it's fab. It was on QVC so you could send it back

It took maybe 2 months of daily use before it showed but that was the reason for the perm and dye in the first place. My lashes got so long that mascara just made my lashes look like spider legs!

Dame London eyelashes - awful, fiddly, absolutely not easy to apply. Ended up throwing the whole pack in the bin in frustration. Will stick to my rivitalash serum. Like you OP above - it definitely works, you just need to invest time and consistency with it. I ended up having to push my glasses down my nose becomes my lashes were hitting the lenses.

TheChosenTwo · 30/01/2023 00:52

@AmIreallyBeverly they look very full! I keep reading about lash serum but to be honest I’m sceptical that they can make them actually appear when there are none! I’ll take a photo tomorrow, I’m very sparse of
lash sadly. I’m not averse to anything volumising/lengthening etc but I’m just lacking in much to work with in the first place if you get what I mean.
