What have you wasted money on recently?

I had my very pale eyebrows shaped and dyed but it wore off after a few days and the wax caused ingrown hairs. I'll stick to dying and shaping them myself.

I also had my eyelashes dyed and permed (up, not curled over iyswim) I liked the dye and will have that done again but the perm was just completely pointless. 🤣

What have you splashed out on recently and afterwards wondered why?

Rats, I just started with the Revolution lash serum!

morethanspice · 30/01/2023 02:05

I bought those sticky shaped strips you are meant to put on the crease of your eyelids to lift the eye area. Hahaha well I found them impossible to use, they just would not stick where I wanted them and were so obvious despite supposedly invisible

Aintnosupermum · 30/01/2023 02:20

Where do I start?

Lancome waterproof mascara…it smudges badly. I am so annoyed I’m going to take it back and get a refund.

hourglass primer left my face ghoulish. Again, super annoyed and took it back for a refund along with the Christian Dior moisturizer which was more money than sense.

clothing wise, last year there was very little in shops for office wear. As a senior leader I dress very formally so normally wear a formal suit. Even Hobbs and LK Bennett didn’t have formal suits in my size in stock. I ended up spending an insane amount on an Akris dress and jacket. The dress needed altering so it fit properly. They charged me over £100 to alter it in the store and broke the zip. When I picked it up, they rushed me out the store. Of course when I got home I noticed it right away. Called the store and they first said no repair or refund. I called back and spoke to their HQ who were shocked at the poor response. I will never buy another item from said store again in my life and I’m not keen on Akris either after my experience.

silver ring from tk maxx £12.99 but the stone fell out. And as always the amount i spend on delivery food is shocking but i got an absolute bargain on one pair of boots and two pairs of shoes for £30. Now eyeing up a mini handheld hoover on the george asda website

Estée Lauder day wear matte moisturiser. Makes my skin so dry after use and it cost bloody €60

Skyrimisveryrelaxing · 30/01/2023 03:07

which lash serum is good?

mishmased · 30/01/2023 03:09

Just remembered Modibodi period pants. Bought 5 and only two fitted well but those two are not very absorbent sob 😭

Mercurial123 · 30/01/2023 05:48

K18 Hair Mask. It seemed to work at first, then left my hair super dry. My hairdresser asked what happened and why it was in such poor condition.

The Ordinary lash serum is rubbish.

Modibody are the best!
If they don't fit maybe you have the seamless ones? They seem small straight out of the pack but you just wear once and they fit your form as the fabric warms. After the first wear they are never tight again. The package and website says this.

If they weren't absorbent, sounds like you didn't read the pack which tells you to run them through the wash once to get the absorbent core activated.

They're amazing! I've spent a bucket of money on them but don't consider it a waste.

Rainmakerof69 · 30/01/2023 06:54

A lipstick I already own and is unopened (didn't realise, it was part of a set).
Tights that are too small (I'd bought the same ones a few years ago, same size).

GreatOak · 30/01/2023 07:21

A sleeping dome for our cat The Prince! I mean, what an idiotic thing to do, I knew when I bought it that he would never use it - but it looked so cosy! Sure enough he sniffed it and then walked off disdainfully. I thought, perhaps he will come back to it, so I took off the tags and threw away the receipt.

He hasn’t. 🙄

AmIreallyBeverly · 30/01/2023 07:26

Oh yes, Snag tights!
I decided to overlook the marketing and bought 2 pairs of their fake stockings in the size they advised. Yes, they are soft but OMG they felt like the top of the stocking bit were cutting into me. I wore a pair for a few hours to see if it would soften or stretch or something and I was left with welts for 2 days.
Even if they had fitted, they were not at all flattering.

@dontgobaconmyheart I did the same with an online chooser. I got revolution foundation drops to correct. Not too expensive and kinda works…

@ScrappyMoggy same. What useless gunk. Especially as you can’t see how much of it is left.

dudsville · 30/01/2023 07:34

I'm about to keep a £65 orange skirt rather than do the sensible thing and return it. So I'm actually in the process of making a bad decision consciously!

AmIreallyBeverly · 30/01/2023 07:37

@dudsville why aren't you returning it?

Impossibly smug alert

Two pairs of M&S high waisted leather look leggings in size 10

Been slowly loosing the lock down weight gain (from size 18). The size 10 fitted over Christmas and now I'm wearing them in size 8.

impossibly pleased

Daffodilis · 30/01/2023 07:45

Sushi, my appetites been zero and it's the only thing I've been fancying

Put it somewhere awkward and mutter about taking it to the charity shop for another cat to enjoy and that he mustn't use it in the meantime
That'll work

Without mascara

😮😮😮😮😍😍😍😍 I'm off to buy some!!

Floisme · 30/01/2023 08:34

I made a lot of bad charity shop buys last year. It really brought me up short as I can get quite smug sometimes about being a (mostly) second hand shopper, and it's true I've found some lovely stuff that I could never have afforded new. But Oh man, I've bought some shit too, and while nothing cost more than a tenner, it soon adds up.

Either put it somewhere inconvenient to get to or make a mental note to donate it to charity. It will become the best cat bed ever.

Conkerqueen · 30/01/2023 10:29

@MairzyDoats I got the conditioner, nice but not a miracle worker!!

mine is fat dissolving injections

Shitfather · 30/01/2023 12:00

Charlotte Tilbury Glowgasm Beauty Light Wand. Paid 12 quid for it on eBay as it was punt. Glad I didn’t pay 30 full price. It’s shite.

spuddel · 30/01/2023 12:11

Can't stop laughing at telling the cat the dome bed is going to another cat Grin It's so utterly true that it would become the bestest, comfiest bed ever.

I spent way too much on a cute seagrass cat bed from Cox and Cox last year. Even lined it with my lovely Avoca Irish wool blanket. Cat sniffed it then lay down right next to it, on the rug. I tried for months to get her to use it, stupidly. Then decided I would give it to charity but stuck it in the dining room out of the way meanwhile. That's now her new forever home Confused

One of those electric pulse massage things for the face. Gave me a raging pain in the jawline
