What have you wasted money on recently?

I had my very pale eyebrows shaped and dyed but it wore off after a few days and the wax caused ingrown hairs. I'll stick to dying and shaping them myself.

I also had my eyelashes dyed and permed (up, not curled over iyswim) I liked the dye and will have that done again but the perm was just completely pointless. 🤣

What have you splashed out on recently and afterwards wondered why?

This really tells you that soooo many things are crap, resist!!!

lurchermummy · 30/01/2023 18:16

Charles Worthington shampoo and conditioner for grey hair - feels like you're washing your hair in fairy liquid, so drying.

Pyaar · 30/01/2023 18:48

I agree that you need to give the lash serum longer than you think (for some people). Mine didn't look that dramatic after 1 tube of Silly George, but there was definitely growth as my lashes now hit my glasses. I just bought the Oridnary stuff to carry on (it's way cheaper) so i hope it's not as rubbish as other posters are saying 😅

And I've also read that blue eyes are safe from any risk of colour changing just to echo another poster

Revitalash. I'm allergic to all lash serums so far but thought that since that one is £££ it might be okay. Nope. 😫

This is one of those tricks of life I'm finding Im learning over & over again; that things that are expensive aren't necessarily good. But sometimes they are. And sometimes they're not! And cheap things can be great. And sometimes not! Arghhh!!!

Also, I hate moths.

tobee · 30/01/2023 19:03

Also, how can eyes change colour with this serum? Sounds like witchcraft. 🧙‍♀️

Arrrrrrragghhh · 30/01/2023 19:14

A new cabin bag that I converted when I saw my friends smart bag.
I have a specialist Eurotravel rucksack that is utterly fabulous and still looks like new but wanted something more grown up

New one will only fit under the plane seat if you keep it the exact same shape. My rucksack will mould itself underneath .
New one has internal pockets that eat into packing space and mean you have to rummage through all your stuff to extract things from pockets.
My rucksack has outside pockets so you can sort things and just open the right section.

Luckily I bought it as a cosmetically imperfect version for nearly half the price. Still £27 I could have spent on cocktails on holiday instead though.

I too fell victim to the lure of The Ordinary eyelash serum, and it was useless - I'm now back on the UK Lash which is great!

Also concur on the M&S sports bras - fine for lifting, yoga and so on but no use all for running or jumping (which is mostly why I bought them). Back to Shock Absorber.

Biggest waste was a pair of lovely suede boots which I'm too afraid to wear in case the weather turns. I must have temporarily forgotten that I live in the UK.

I bought some magnetic lashes. Biggest waste of £35. I don't know what I was thinking!

Thank you for that I've been eyeing them up

ihatethecold · 30/01/2023 19:23

For those of you wanting to buy or sell make up or toiletries this FB group is fab its called "Skincare Freaks Trade and Buy Group"
I buy all sorts on there, never pay full price for anything anymore. Its a good way to try new products out or get rid of unwanted stuff/ presents/advent calendar items

Jewelanemone · 29/01/2023 21:55

I'm glad I wasn't tempted to buy one of the really expensive lash serums. Although maybe the 90 quid ones actually work! 😆

Revitalash does

spuddel · 30/01/2023 19:53

Thanks to the posters for reassurance the lash serum shouldn't affect blue eyes. Kind of excited to get started on it now, especially as I loathe mascara.

Just remembered my other wastes of money. Erborian BB cream. Costs £££, made me look like Casper the Ghost. All sorts of expensive lipsticks, Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior Addict. They slide off my lips within minutes, am far happier with the cheap Maybelline Superstay. Wish there were more colour options though.

AmIreallyBeverly · 29/01/2023 23:27

Without mascara

Wow what beautiful eyes you have. They could use you in the advertising campaign.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/01/2023 20:09

Ren Evercalm Day cream (£40 but I got 20% off M&S offer) for DD who has very sensitive skin.

She hated the smell and regiifted it to me .
I will use it in the Summer when I need something lightweight . so not a waste but not something I'd choose myself .

soboredtonight · 30/01/2023 20:40

Two pairs of beige trousers that were too long. I wonder webbed both of them too short today.

Not content with wonder web I fucking cut them before I webbed them.

I am mortified with myself

I made a lot of bad charity shop buys last year. It really brought me up short as I can get quite smug sometimes about being a (mostly) second hand shopper, and it's true I've found some lovely stuff that I could never have afforded new. But Oh man, I've bought some shit too, and while nothing cost more than a tenner, it soon adds up.

Same here. Some wins, some fails.
I bought a long wooden bench from IKEA that fits all the children on (that's not the reason I got it but it's funny they can all get on in a line). Then we changed dining table to round forgetting about the bench. It's been in the hallway but we all fall over it, now it's in our bedroom instead of a proper desk chair. To say it looks a bit odd is an understatement. It's great for putting all the neat little piles of washing on but tbh I'm making excuses, it's a useless piece of shit.

Itgoesalittlesomethinglikethis · 30/01/2023 20:41

Please excuse the drifting from the original question. Thinks about style and beauty buys.....

TheChosenTwo · 30/01/2023 20:44

You’re all talking me into UKLash! Just about to pull the trigger…

TheChosenTwo · 30/01/2023 20:48

Here are my crappy Lashes complete with baggy eyelids and flaking skin (back on the tretinoin so skin is purging and flaking like a mofo, I really sound like an attractive catch right now I know!), plus very dark circles which I was looking at tear trough fillers for but was put off by the size of the needle 😂 had to take the photo of me looking up as when I look straight on you can literally see no eyelashes whatsoever!
In fact, I think I’m possibly a lost cause!

This?!

How on earth could lash serum change eye colour?! Isn't eye colour genetic?!

This is neither style, or beauty, but don't bother buying Dusk towels.

Horrid, looked ancient after first wash. Rougher than the 7 year old John Lewis towels they were replacing.

I wouldn't be doing my civic duty if I didn't warn you!

Wilkinsons "posh" towels are fabulous

I bought them for the gym but then replaced all our towels with them

WFHbore2023 · 30/01/2023 21:19

Thought I'd treat myself to the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder....accidentally ordered one in a shade instead, and not a shade that works for me

Hourglass foundation

This! It's bloody awful.

LancashireSquirrel · 30/01/2023 21:35

Glad it's not just me with the magnetic lashes. The liner just felt very heavy, and hard to remove. And the lashes looked ridiculous.

AWafferthinmint · 30/01/2023 21:51

Erborian cc cream. Everyone raves about it but it's just a bit...meh. It was so expensive too.
