What have you wasted money on recently?

I had my very pale eyebrows shaped and dyed but it wore off after a few days and the wax caused ingrown hairs. I'll stick to dying and shaping them myself.

I also had my eyelashes dyed and permed (up, not curled over iyswim) I liked the dye and will have that done again but the perm was just completely pointless. 🤣

What have you splashed out on recently and afterwards wondered why?

Just remembered Modibodi period pants. Bought 5 and only two fitted well but those two are not very absorbent sob 😭

Flog the ones that don’t fit you on eBay ?

Without mascara

OP does this one risk eye colour change ? Did your eyes stay the same colour ?

lindyloo57 · 30/01/2023 12:59

I dyed a pink cashmere jumper, I brought the navy dye, it came out purple, so this week brought the black dye, it's still purple £8.80 down the drain.

Oh heck, I just spent £60 on this stuff after seeing AmIreallyBeverly's amazing results. Reviews looked great so hoping not. Quite attached to my blue peepers.

Impossibly smug alert

Two pairs of M&S high waisted leather look leggings in size 10

Been slowly loosing the lock down weight gain (from size 18). The size 10 fitted over Christmas and now I'm wearing them in size 8.

impossibly pleased

@FinallyHere Well done 👏🏻 You deserve to be smug!

I bought some magnetic lashes. Biggest waste of £35. I don't know what I was thinking!

Oh dear, me too!

Lampzade · 30/01/2023 13:02

Individual eyelashes. Spent £80 getting them done. By the time I got home they started falling out. Two days later I had gaps
and had to remove the remaining eyelashes

lindyloo57 · 30/01/2023 13:03

The paradise tan drops, turn me orange, I must of tried every brand, they all turn me orange.

MoneyInTheBananaStand · 30/01/2023 13:03

Pair of running leggings that I thought were identical to a pair I got last year and love

They arrived, I ripped the tags off and put them on - the material felt thin and stretchy rather than supportive but I went for a run anyway

My phone in the hip pocket slowly pulled them down, I tied the waist as tight as it would go and they still migrated. Put my phone in the back pocket instead.

I now have a horrendous bruise across the small of my back from the impact off my phone from the material not holding it in place

£40 wasted AND an injury!

MsFannySqueers · 30/01/2023 13:04

Many things I have mentioned on MN before. Most recently I wanted some delicate style stud earrings with threaded backs. I spent almost £300 on some from Laura Bond they are absolutely microscopic plus they have to pushed through from the back of the ear to the front. Then the decorative part screwed on.This just doesn’t work on my ears. I guess I should have read the sizes more carefully. No refunds for hygiene reasons ☹️.

morethanspice · 30/01/2023 02:05

I bought those sticky shaped strips you are meant to put on the crease of your eyelids to lift the eye area. Hahaha well I found them impossible to use, they just would not stick where I wanted them and were so obvious despite supposedly invisible

I always boggle when people can't use these. They are utterly foolproof. Just stick them on your eyelid in the crease and they work like magic and are totally invisible.

AnchorWHAT · 30/01/2023 13:09

Wasteofmoneyornot · 29/01/2023 21:48

I have the same ... hate the skinny wee thing

No difference at all

Another me too! It had such good reviews too and i have two 😫

also the boots heatless curl ribbon, i got a cheap one online and its great, bought the boots one with scarf bit on it thinking it would look nice whilst doing its magic but its awful, if you tie up the ribbon first you cant wind the hair properly and its more of a hard tube so not very comfy, i bought two one spotty, one leopard.

It must contain bimatroprost

antipodeancanary · 30/01/2023 13:15

Whoops, the above was about eyelash serums! Not pants

hadtoomuchsleep · 30/01/2023 13:18

Revitalash. I'm allergic to all lash serums so far but thought that since that one is £££ it might be okay. Nope. 😫

MsFannySqueers · 30/01/2023 13:18

@Youpillock I have thought about trying those eyelid things. Which ones do you use?

Giftwithpurchase · 30/01/2023 13:19

I finally bought Chantecaille just skin in the the Liberty sale. Honestly it's so meh - I'm lucky to have decent skin so don't need coverage but honestly this stuff just evaporates and doesn't leave a nice finish or anything. Baffled as I know ppl swear by it 🤷‍♀️ FAR prefer the Erborian bb crème which is a third of the price.

It's because lot's of people who try to use them do not have the eye lid crease. Thats why they were invented! I don't have any crease, so finding where the crease might go is hard and they are never really covered by fold of eye skin

Vegetablesupreme · 30/01/2023 13:21

Just to say great thread idea OP. Am reading with interest. Have wasted so much money on beauty stuff/clothes/ shoes etc over the years so am making notes .....

Todaynotalways · 30/01/2023 13:24

This is neither style, or beauty, but don't bother buying Dusk towels.

Horrid, looked ancient after first wash. Rougher than the 7 year old John Lewis towels they were replacing.

I wouldn't be doing my civic duty if I didn't warn you!

evtheria · 30/01/2023 13:26

Jewelanemone · 29/01/2023 21:38

I bought a tube of The Ordinary eyelash and eyebrow serum. I expected my lashes to be long and thick by now but they don't look any bloody different. Thank goodness it was only a tenner.

Oh, so it's not just me!

Thighdentitycrisis · 30/01/2023 13:33

waste report pending……

I have just spent £40 on collagen supplements at sale price. I’m going to see if 4 months supply helps improve my nails (not holding out any hopes for wrinkles 😁)

mtld · 30/01/2023 13:38

dontgobaconmyheart · 29/01/2023 21:46

I stupidly bought the wrong shade of foundation in error last week and despite trying to tell myself I can make it work I obviously can't and DP commented that my skin looked very yellow today and asked why it looked that way, so that's definitely no more.

I don't often try new things makeup wise simply because I hate wasting money if they aren't right.

Same - how do other people get the right shade and consistency of foundation / concealer without going through loads of £££?
Testers aren’t usually available lately

A sleeping dome for our cat The Prince! I mean, what an idiotic thing to do, I knew when I bought it that he would never use it - but it looked so cosy! Sure enough he sniffed it and then walked off disdainfully. I thought, perhaps he will come back to it, so I took off the tags and threw away the receipt.

He hasn’t. 🙄

We bought our kittens a new cat bed in September, and they have only started using it this month (after we moved it into a sunnier spot), so don't give up hope!

I'm glad I wasn't tempted to buy one of the really expensive lash serums. Although maybe the 90 quid ones actually work! 😆

Revitalash really does! I had lashes so short I couldn’t even use a curler and now I’ll never wear false ones again because mine are amazing.
