What have you wasted money on recently?

I had my very pale eyebrows shaped and dyed but it wore off after a few days and the wax caused ingrown hairs. I'll stick to dying and shaping them myself.

I also had my eyelashes dyed and permed (up, not curled over iyswim) I liked the dye and will have that done again but the perm was just completely pointless. 🤣

What have you splashed out on recently and afterwards wondered why?

Yes I agree, tried that and the BB cream. Maybe it would look great on a pale teen and they don't need foundation, but not my post menopausal face for sure. Am now refusing to buy foundation, made so many costly errors. I quite like my skin with just a bit of bronzer and blush now.

It made me wonder if I was missing something or applying it incorrectly. I was expecting my skin to look amazing but it still looked shit.

@lindyloo57 do you use the paler shade. I did and they all looked orange, but it was suggested I use the dark and finally I’m not an Oompa Loompa

Hourglass supposedly amazing powders. Utter shit. Dim light, ambient light....bollocks. I either look like Metal Mickey or a beige, cheap velvet 70s lampshade. Specific I know but it's vile! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It isn't a serum, it contains an actual drug which is used to treat glaucoma - and has side effects of changing your eye colour and growing longer lashes.

DH used to be on the drug and had the most amazing eyelashes.

The eye colour change is because it increases the amount of melanin your eye produces - if you have blue eyes you have v few cells that can actually produce melanin so it doesn't matter and your eyes don't change colour. However if you have green or hazel eyes, you get a change in colour.

DH already had brown eyes so there weren't any changes.

I was given some magnetic lashes. Maybe my eye lids are too saggy but the liner took so long to dry that it ended up sticking all my skin together! The liner was a pain to remove and I found the liner, or the removal process irritated my skin. I couldn't even get the lashes to stay on!

I've been suckered in by those non-wired 'most comfortable bra ever' ads. Twice now I've bought them and twice now they sit in my drawer taunting me . They are comfortable but I might as well be wearing a vest for all the support they provide.

Prostaglandins in serums act on melanin production, so can darken the skin around the lashes too. Most eye colours have melanin within them, just not blue eyes. Other eye colours contain melanin and this can cause your Iris to turn brown. I have a friend on the same drugs for glaucoma and one of her eyes has turned brown, from green.
I like my green eyes and worry about the colour change risk, but not all lash serums contain the risky chemicals.

Wow, that’s really interesting! I had never heard before that your eyes can change colour by using lash growth stuff, dd has blue eyes and has used it for a while. Seems like hers won’t change colour then.

@LancashireSquirrel that's the one! I'm so bummed that I threw it out now, could have sent it to you! I bought a new dressing table and cleared out a few hundred quid worth of make up that was taunting me.

Bit concerned now that the lash serum is an actual drug. Drugs have side effects and I usually get every single one

just brought a slow cooker anyone got any good recipes that dont involve using a pan before hand! i just want to put stuff in it and leave it.

yeah paint the bench and stick it outside or use it to put shoes or wellies on.

I ignore the instructions to use a pan before. Just bung it all in.

I got influenced into buying Olaplex stuff. The conditioner is fine but tbh no different from a £3 bottle. The bonding oil weighs my fine hair down and so it looks immediately greasy

Also I don't like modibodi pants. They leak. The wuka ones are a million times better.

might be able to jerry rig it to be hot enough to do it on the bottom. I don't get the point tho its just a baking dish on your kitchen side.

Just to say that most of the cheap 'eyelash growth' serums don't contain the risky prostaglandin analogues or synthetic versions of that cause the side effects. Unfortunately, this also means that they probably don't work, beyond acting as leave on conditioners.

Would anyone be interested in a swapping/selling thread? I am still thinking about the Missoni poncho on the first page of the thread. I bet each of these mistakes would be fab for the first person!
