Mother of groom dress

Is this print nice or is it like a pair of old ladies curtains? If it’s relevant, I’m a fairly young MoG (44) size 10-12 & 5’6 I have long dark hair & will be tanned from holiday. I was thinking hair loose with a cream padded headband.

Completely different option is the black with a black headband or hat. The bride & groom don’t mind me wearing black as they’re not traditional at all.

I like the first one, the black one is a bit tarty for a MOG.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/07/2022 21:02

The first one is much better. The black has got too much flesh and is a bit 'NYE party'. I think you could find better than either of them though tbh.

blueskyeve · 26/07/2022 21:16

This first is lovely. Not at all like old ladies curtains. Definite no to the second, not the right dress for the occasion.

Offredismysister · 26/07/2022 21:34

Thanks, I wasn’t sure about the black. A friend wore it in navy & recommended it. I feel like I’ve looked everywhere & nothing stands out. I’ve tried a few from self portrait & a few in selfridges but nothing has been the one. I don’t want something traditional & old fashioned. Any suggestions?

First one isn't smart enough for MotG. The second one isn't suitable as or's evening wear.

Youaremysunshine14 · 26/07/2022 21:49

Black one definitely is too party/nighttime with the lace bodice and the floral one doesn't feel dressy enough. What about something between the two?

pilates · 26/07/2022 21:53

Both not suitable, sorry

Neither would be quite right imo. Have you looked at Phase 8? I like this, but there are lots of nice outfits on their website.

The Nadine Merabi comes in other colours, would you consider a different colour other than black?

Offredismysister · 26/07/2022 22:07

Some good suggestions thanks.
I think the merabi might be too tarty whatever the colour?

To be honest, yes it is a bit much. I wouldn't wear it personally. It is less tarty in the other colours though.

Have you considered Needle and Thread? www.needleandthread.com/collections/dresses

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 01:14

I think strapless isn't right, in any colour.

Sorry but I think that Phase 8 one is really horrible.

What's your budget? Westwood sale

Self Portrait amazing colour

if you're feeling very rich

KurriKawari · 27/07/2022 01:24

No to the first dress. It's a special day for you and needs a special dress. Some lovely links on this thread. But very much no to the first dress.

mathanxiety · 27/07/2022 01:54

What time of day is the wedding and is it formal, barndance, hootenany, etc?

caringcarer · 27/07/2022 02:18

Neither very nice. I would look around a bit more.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 02:19

My 3rd link didn't work: it's the Zimmermann Anneke floral-print cotton wrap dress

Yesthatismychildsigh · 27/07/2022 02:34

Sorry, I don’t think either is appropriate.

Poppins2016 · 27/07/2022 02:50

Hope & Ivy might be worth a look (similar styles to the first dress you posted, but a little dressier).

Monsoon possibly worth a glance too.

Exactly this

Offredismysister · 27/07/2022 07:15

Budget is £380 I already have shoes & bags so won’t need them. The wedding is in a country house but not formal as in the bride & groom are not traditional & have said everyone is to wear what they want.
I really don’t want Gina baccconi, ghost, monsoon etc, that’s not me at all. I do like the Westwood one but the neck won’t suit as I have a DD bust.

First is too casual, second just not appropriate at all.

ShirleyJackson · 27/07/2022 07:29

Rixo? My favourite dresses are from there.

ShirleyJackson · 27/07/2022 07:49

Some beauties here.

I actually really like the floral dress, though I'd want to see it in real life, and particularly how the slit, which looks like it might be alarmingly high cut, worked as you moved!
