Mother of groom dress

Is this print nice or is it like a pair of old ladies curtains? If it’s relevant, I’m a fairly young MoG (44) size 10-12 & 5’6 I have long dark hair & will be tanned from holiday. I was thinking hair loose with a cream padded headband.

Completely different option is the black with a black headband or hat. The bride & groom don’t mind me wearing black as they’re not traditional at all.

Don't think a dress with a split up to your fanny is very appropriate! Neither is black for a wedding.

Cocopogo · 03/08/2022 19:20

Neither!

Just been "mother of the groom" in June. Had an absolute mare in choosing an outfit. In the end went shopping with mother of bride and bride to be. Kept an absolute open mind and they chose some outfits that they thought would look good. Ended up with an outfit I was absolutely convinced would be wrong. But to my surprise ,loved one of the outfits. What I mean to say is, don't stress out too much. If your son and daughter-in-law are as open as you say. Keep an open mind and "breathe". Personally dont think either. The first is very blah. Second, too much of an evening dress. Try John Lewis. They had some lovely outfits.

I didn't order the first 2 dresses & wouldn’t wear anything with ‘a split up to my fanny’ but yeah constructive.

Ill find the one I know I will, I’ve ordered 2 more. Thank god for the credit card & the lovely woman in the post office who I am on first name terms with.

I was MOG last summer. Got my lovely dress from Hobbs.

I think a jump suit in navy could look super chic. After a certain age you can look a bit trussed up in a formal frock. Something like this

I was MOB earlier this year. Tried on loads including 10 ordered line (mostly sent back). Settled on 2 one for day/one for evening. On the day one stood out and I wore that. Felt fabulous, strangers nothing to do with wedding complimenting! Buy what you feel happy with and you’ll be fine and enjoy the day! 😁

That's lovely

@Bodice as a forthcoming MOG wild horses would not entice me to wear that to my son's wedding.

It's awful. And it would make anyone larger than a size 10 look "trussed up"

Barney60 · 04/08/2022 07:59

Neither suitable sorry. Too much flesh showing especially if your busty as you said.
Personally i love the phase 8 dress.

VanCleefArpels · 04/08/2022 08:12

This might be useful

www.midlifechic.com/joy-of-a-simple-wedding/

thetes a link to a previous blog where the young MOG had a try on at John Lewis in order to find an outfit for a relaxed wedding

Bodice · 04/08/2022 09:31

It was an example I got from a quick google. There is a lovely blue jumpsuit a woman is wearing in the link Shared by vankleefarpels.
I just think something simple with clean lines can look good on MOG/B

Temperley dresses are fab for curves - I have a small waist, f boobs & curvy bum and they are very flattering. Found this one on the Outnet and this one on John Lewis - cheaper brand from Temperley. And crazy gold one that I don’t know why, love! Bit Dynasty perhaps tho!

If I could link to what I eventually bought I would. I am not disclosing what I paid for it.

MercuryOnTheRise · 04/08/2022 22:28

Wonder if this works?

MercuryOnTheRise · 04/08/2022 22:29

OMG it worked. Slinks away in shame.

MavisMonkey · 04/08/2022 23:18

If I had your figure OP I would wear this. Has similar vibes to the jumpsuit you ordered.

@MavisMonkey That is one gorgeous dress 😍

tootiredforanything · 05/08/2022 12:37

Sorry but I don't think either are right!

Offredismysister · 05/08/2022 13:42

I may have found the dress!
It’s a bit creased so will need ironing. It’s 100% silk & just skims all my lumps & bumps. I don’t think I’m ever getting away from the fact I’m busty but hopefully a good strapless bodysuit or bra will help. I was thinking with this hat maybe?

I think the hat will frumpy-fy your gorgeous dress. A hat band would be far more modern - or nothing at all!

lOPAS · 05/08/2022 13:47

That's perfection OP!
