Is this print nice or is it like a pair of old ladies curtains? If it’s relevant, I’m a fairly young MoG (44) size 10-12 & 5’6 I have long dark hair & will be tanned from holiday. I was thinking hair loose with a cream padded headband.

Completely different option is the black with a black headband or hat. The bride & groom don’t mind me wearing black as they’re not traditional at all.

I go to a lot of weddings - I'm at that age! - and I just don't see many people dressed as formally as the recommendations you always get on S&B. The women wearing those coast/monsoon/Hobbs very 'wedding-y' dresses that get pushed as the wedding norm are normally 60+ and I think wearing something like that at 44 would be very ageing.

Lulu1919 · 27/07/2022 08:08

Wallis has some lovely dresses as does Monsoon and Coast
Black is a no ...gorgeous dress but not a MOG dress
First is nice ..but I've n nicer

Threelittlelambs · 27/07/2022 08:09

Given that it’s an informal wedding, I think you’re on right right tracks with floaty summer style.

Why not book in an appointment at a big department store and try some on, as great as these suggests are you really need to try them on for get a real feel for the dresses - and saves you sending them back!

The appointments are usually free and you can take a friend. It’s probably worth it for an expensive dress.

Neither would be quite right imo. Have you looked at Phase 8? I like this, but there are lots of nice outfits on their website.

Omg 😂😂 she's not 70!

Budget is £380 I already have shoes & bags so won’t need them. The wedding is in a country house but not formal as in the bride & groom are not traditional & have said everyone is to wear what they want.
I really don’t want Gina baccconi, ghost, monsoon etc, that’s not me at all. I do like the Westwood one but the neck won’t suit as I have a DD bust.

I like the first dress OP, I think you will look lovely

I think strapless isn't right, in any colour.

Sorry but I think that Phase 8 one is really horrible.

What's your budget? Westwood sale

Self Portrait amazing colour

if you're feeling very rich

Love the Vivienne Westwood one!!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 08:53

Westwood stuff is genetically cut for boobs, so could be worth a try.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 08:53

Generally not genetically 😂😂😂

Omg 😂😂 she's not 70!

It's not everyone's taste, but Phase Eight often seems gets slated on here when it's possible to find some (some!) nice clothing for people half that age... I wore a Phase Eight dress for a recent wedding and received several genuine compliments from people in my own age group (and younger).

WildCherryBlossom · 27/07/2022 13:02

Agree that Westwood dresses are beautifully engineered to make the best of curves. Check out Tracey Emin & Nigella wearing Westwood to see how well cut it is for big boobs.

Haha okay. I thought with her slim figure and colouring, that would look so good.

CassieLane · 27/07/2022 16:15

Have a look at some of the Spanish designers. MoB outfits are much more modern and ‘younger’. Carla Ruiz for instance.

Or, my friend wore a jumpsuit like this to her son’s stately home wedding and looked fabulous. Designer and there are cheaper versions available.

I love the black one and it sounds like it would suit you.

Monsoon and ghost are always suggested but I think they can be quite frumpy, plus a high chance of someone else wearing the same,

Arucanafeather · 27/07/2022 16:21

Poppins2016 · 27/07/2022 02:50

Hope & Ivy might be worth a look (similar styles to the first dress you posted, but a little dressier).

Monsoon possibly worth a glance too.

Ooh I love the hope and ivy website!

Offredismysister · 27/07/2022 16:46

I do like the cape style outfits, especially this from Jenny Packham, out of my budget sadly. I have been to selfridges & whilst I didn’t have a personal shopping appt the assistant was helpful & I tried on a few, but nothing was the one! I’ll keep looking.

And I actually really like this cape dress from boohoo in black or bright pink

LondonQueen · 27/07/2022 20:01

I don't like the first one but the black is very flattering.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 20:04

That jumpsuit is monstrous imho. Sorry!

MissMaple82 · 27/07/2022 20:06

I think they're both a bit tarty, sorry. You can get much nicer dresses to suit mid 40s

MercuryOnTheRise · 27/07/2022 20:10

Might it be worth having a look at LK Bennett? The black is definitely a no from me.

woodhill · 27/07/2022 20:16

Hobbs always have lovely dresses

LunchPoems · 27/07/2022 20:35

There are lots of lovely dresses on that Reformation website @Offredismysister and if it’s good enough for JLo on honeymoon!
