Mother of groom dress

Is this print nice or is it like a pair of old ladies curtains? If it’s relevant, I’m a fairly young MoG (44) size 10-12 & 5’6 I have long dark hair & will be tanned from holiday. I was thinking hair loose with a cream padded headband.

Completely different option is the black with a black headband or hat. The bride & groom don’t mind me wearing black as they’re not traditional at all.

Red SP dress is lovely.

Pink is too Carmelita Spats.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/07/2022 11:06

Personally I prefer the midi-length SP ones. I think they're more stylish and timeless.

cathyandclare · 30/07/2022 11:07

The red is perfect!

OnceAnElephant · 30/07/2022 11:13

All of the ones you are going for are for young women and are not mother of the groom attire. I know they said you can wear anything but you aren't going clubbing.

OnceAnElephant · 30/07/2022 11:14
  • although the red one is stunning.
juniperjewel · 30/07/2022 11:17

I'm already over invested in this thread OP Grin Looking forward to seeing what you choose

hopeishere · 30/07/2022 12:38

The last ones are too girly / young.

Offredismysister · 30/07/2022 13:13

I get what people are saying but I am only 44 not 74, so not quite ready for the ubiquitous jacquard dress & long coat combo.

Day to day I’m in jeans & a hoodie, dress & trainers or a jumpsuit. So turning up in a really stuffy old lady outfit would not be me.

That said I will continue to look for something nice & classic without being too young or too old.

@juniperjewel i will post a pic when I find the one. I better get my skates on, big day is soon!

There is no such thing as an, 'Old lady outfit'.

Offredismysister · 30/07/2022 13:22

So why is there such thing as something too young/girly or tarty as has been said on this thread?

OP posts:
Yesthatismychildsigh · 30/07/2022 13:24

Why can’t I unwatch this thread? Anyone else having this problem?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/07/2022 13:26

'Old lady outfit' implies that all older women wear the same thing. Meanwhile, 'young' or 'tarty' imply a more general 'vibe' rather than specifics imo.

Crazycrazylady · 30/07/2022 13:43

Love the red one!

grey12 · 30/07/2022 13:51

@MisgenderedPaul that kind of looks like a wedding dress. Absolutely no!!!

Sunnysideup · 30/07/2022 13:56

I usually go with wear what the fuck you want and age is just a number but I do think for mother of the bride outfitsyou should aim for elegant and classy, it’s the one time you shouldn’t really get it all out. Subtly sexy works better than mini skirts and cleavage.

none of them are great but so far the red and the first floral are about the best.

something like these could be beautiful

tulipsunday · 30/07/2022 13:59

Two from Anthropologie I thought were nice - classy without being too mumsy.

Have you had a look at any of the Nancy Mac jumpsuits or dresses? It's usually well-cut for bigger boobs.

Have a look at some of the Spanish designers. MoB outfits are much more modern and ‘younger’. Carla Ruiz for instance.

Or, my friend wore a jumpsuit like this to her son’s stately home wedding and looked fabulous. Designer and there are cheaper versions available.

Honestly I'm sure your friend looked lovely but that looks hideous on the model!

If you like the first one OP then go for it as it's informal, definitely not the second one in any colour.

Vohgue · 30/07/2022 14:34

The red self portrait is the only one I would wear myself. It's conservative but on trend (for wedding attire). Please don't wear a jumpsuit, or anything with a cape, or a floral sun dress or (controversial) anything more than 2 inches above the knee (by all means, wear the hell out of these things at other times just not as motg).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/07/2022 14:50

@Sunnysideup The OP has said she's busty. Very few of yours would work on big norks imo.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/07/2022 14:51

And that red Anthro one looks really casual.

TalkingToMyselfAgain · 30/07/2022 14:52

Neither dress is nice nor suitable. The black one is better for a night out at a party. The flowery one is old-fashioned.

MarneyM · 30/07/2022 15:57

What about this, or something similar. Really good quality, grown up and modern. Relaxed but a bit different. Love Hayley Menzies after seeing on of her outfits on a tv presenter and tracking down the very dress ( and sadly finding it unaffordable for me)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2022 20:04

That jumpsuit is monstrous imho. Sorry!

Not sure which of the jumpsuits you're referring to- there's at least one which reminded me Rick Wakeman in his caped hay day.

MarneyM · 30/07/2022 16:16

A local boutique owner wore the green jumpsuit - photos upthread. She looked amazing. Very confident!
