Well if it's your laptop, <ahem> it probably needs a good clean <ducks for cover>

OP posts:
XingMing · 28/09/2022 23:59

It's quite a new laptop bo, and I do brush the keyboard <occasionally> Blush

botemp · 29/09/2022 08:19

Hmm, well, if it's not from spitting all over your keyboard laughing and waking babies on Mumsnet, procedure is much as aboveXing;

toggle the on screen keyboard (under Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard) and check if you have the same issues with double letters and spaces. If so, then it's a software issue rather than physical keyboard needing a good clean. Then it's as above, check for software updates, uninstall and reinstall the drivers. But check first, sometimes it's just NumLock being engaged or the keyboard being setup in the wrong language.

Shall we rename you boitcrowd?
😜

Redandblue11 · 29/09/2022 17:35

Welcome back Bani! I missed you.

botemp · 29/09/2022 19:11

If I were boitcrowd (took me embarrassingly long to read that right, I was off on a boit tangent thinking I was being outed as some sort of crowd drinker...) surely I would have asked Xing if she had tried turning it on and off again? Grin

I'm not qualified for IT though but since I'm my own IT support I can troubleshoot the basic stuff like keyboards, routers and printers that need immediate fixing.

The weather is confusing me, I want to wear a jumper but it's not cold enough for that but a normal shirt feels too cold. Layering a light woollen layer underneath is too warm for now, I'm thinking I need sweatshirts or a hoodie but it seems a bit stupid to go out and buy some of those for maybe the next 2-3 weeks? I think I'm just bored... <Goes off to ponder on a cashmere bralette instead>

OP posts:
banivani · 29/09/2022 21:58

What's boitcrowd, precious?

Thank you, Red 😘

Get your shopping done, ladies, because the gas leak in the Baltic is releasing as much greenhouse gases as the amount the nation of Sweden produced last year, apparently. Let us not go gently into the dark night.

Something about that gas sentence feels grammatically wrong and I can't put my finger on it.

I'm browsing the Cos pre-sale and the Arket sale. There is nothing I want and definitely not shopping online. So bored with shopping online.

botemp · 29/09/2022 22:27

Bo + IT Crowd (the tv show, watch if you haven't already)

Too long a sentence always ends up reading weird. I have this issue too, I assume it's an English as a second language thing, I'm frightfully brief in Dutch.

I don't want to think too much about the environmental impact of the war. Apparently all the dolphins of the black sea are dying because of all the underwater shenanigans with sonars and radars which is driving them insane with some sort of vertigo, poor things. Then there's all the fuel use and destruction, and reopening of coal plants, etc. I'm fully expecting Gretha to go all seal team six and take Putin out because the man's carbon footprint is grotesque at this point. Surely she can creep in through an air duct or something?

I did order a padded recycled down thing from the Arket sale, sleeveless thing with a hood, bit of an interesting A-line, bit Rick Owens (with a lot of imagination). Its a gilet, a fucking gilet I've tried it on in store before with the idea to wear it under my oversized coats but I wasn't wearing a coat at the time so it may not pan out. Never thought I'd own one of those practical thingamabobs, what is this timeline 😱

OP posts:
botemp · 29/09/2022 22:29

See, too many run on sentences. I can't help myself 🧐

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 30/09/2022 09:17

I am in complete shut down about the impacts of the war, how people in Pakistan are suffering the worst flooding imaginable. If you think about it for too long it becomes too much, I am trying the compartmentalise type technique, shutting it down in its box when is not the time to think about it. Technique not mastered yet, keep in mini anxious moments about it all
Now Bo wants to wear hoodies and is buying practical coats 😱

botemp · 30/09/2022 10:21

Yes, surely we're in trouble when I want a hoodie and practical warm things. Although today I'm wearing a knit dress and have discovered this is the answer to my dressing conundrums, so no more hoody thoughts. Progress 🌟

I also think I just need to turn the heating on already but it's also become a weird sport of holding out as long as possible Confused

Redandblue11 · 30/09/2022 11:48

And back to frivolity! Yesterday I stopped at the MH sample sale just before they were shutting and acquired this olive trousers in wool and cotton mix (not itchy) and this skirt , which is darker/rustier than comes up in the photo and is a midi , I think I tried one very similar last year when I was with Bo, mm and micro there but it was in a different colour and slightly different, this one I liked it better. Is a heavy linen, Maybe I will wear them with tights and ankle boots. Does linen still work if is mild winter or looks too out of place?

I think up-thread Bo mentioned that cannot work the mixing seasonal clothes eg wearing a polo neck under a more summery item , I have never been able to do that either…

botemp · 30/09/2022 12:16

Nice finds Red, I have a similar pair from Loewe in a cotton/linen mix that I do wear with tights underneath and ankle boots and those do miraculously work and since they're wide leg there's some nice insulation of air happening. I think it works because the colour and shape is more wintery and they work with ankle boots. I think summer colours, certain patterns and where you'd expect bare skin it's a harder one to get away with IME.

(I'm not losing my mind am I, we didn't meet last year but in the spring this year, right 😕)

OP posts:
Redandblue11 · 30/09/2022 12:35

🙃I am loosing my mind , it was this year!

Floisme · 30/09/2022 12:56

I'm below par today and only interested in the frivolous so thanks for the MH sample pics Red, they're just what I need. I'm very Envy of both. I think with linen it's more about the weight so for me, a heavyweight linen works fine in colder weather, especially if it's a darker red than in the pic. I'd wear the skirt with knee high boots.

banivani · 02/10/2022 22:26

Can't believe I didn't get the IT Crowd thing. Lord help us.

Bo, you'll be in wellies next. Grin

I love the colour of that terracotta skirt from MH, Red. I know what you mean about linen in the winter - I struggle very much with "wrong" fabrics for the season. Couldn't wear these floaty viscose skirts for example that all the young ones wear.

But in theory, why not? A linen shirt/shift used to be everyday wear for many many centuries.

botemp · 03/10/2022 09:24

Wellies Shock if I start rambling on about a move to the country promise me you'll hold an intervention 😱

Anyhow, I seem to be on the path of losing my mind regardless, Red was asking about a skirt and I was talking trousers 🤷 I agree with others that you can still wear it now. You might feel different come November but I think it's more a mindset than technical issue. Linen has pretty good insulating properties but I think that probably depends on weave density.

Remember when I prophesized that lace would creep back in (although I was sceptical how mainstream it would be and banked on adjacent net type fabrics being the main push) well it appears to be back on the runways but the opening look of Acne Studios was not where I was expecting it. I'm so Confused between this and Gove saying cutting tax for the highest earners is wrong I'm fairly sure I took a wrong left turn somewhere into this bizarre timeline...

Are you better now Flo?
I opened that link Bo and oh my lord… what is that?! Indeed confusing.
lol, I realised you got confused Bo about what I asked but I decided to let it be.

Redandblue11 · 03/10/2022 10:05

what is going on! my post started doing weird things and went and posted itself half way …

anyhow, I better wear that skirt before I decide is too cold /doesn’t look right. I wore the olive trousers and brown ankle boots with a checked ocre and brown shirt/jacket (the whole thing sounds ridiculous probably) and they were met with the approval of two of my very style conscious friends, they happened to be wearing very autumnal clothes too with tweed and stuff like that, and I had my tanned Labrador with me, so we literally looked like some autumnal Burberry advert hunting in the forest 😅

deeperthanallroses · 03/10/2022 13:50

Excuse my ignorance - Is that acne collection going straight to the shops or do they, er, reinterpret it wearably first? Not that there isn’t a time and place for nipple bows.
I’d rather wear a spray on dress which was not the comment I expected to make about Bella hadids dress. The new technical frontier revolutionising clothes that we were all wondering about! www.news.com.au/entertainment/celebrity-style/bella-hadid-has-dress-sprayed-on-dress/news-story/84773401ce30a03313981c6f6569ab66?amp
Jokes aside the idea of stumbling out of bed and putting my arms out for a few minutes to have my outfit applied definitely has appeal.

mm47 · 04/10/2022 07:49

red love you in those trousers and the skirt is absolutely gorgeous. I agree with flo that wearing linen outside the height of summer depends on the density of the weave. And bani who said linen was worn year round for centuries!

I returned to London after 5 days of partying a broken woman. I would’ve believed it was self inflicted alcoholic poisoning but suspect either stinker of a cold or 🦠 Covid…

timeisnotaline · 04/10/2022 08:11

I agree the trouser look is very casual stylish!
maybe I just don’t watch enough fashion shows… what is going on here? hypebeast.com/2022/10/balenciaga-spring-summer-2023-womenswear-show-paris-fashion-week-demna-gvasalia

i quote ‘Attendees, including Christine Quinn, Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, North West, Anna Wintour, et al, and hundreds more, sat in a warehouse covered and submerged in a mudslide. The walls and parts of the floor were covered in a thick wash of black mud, while ahead was a mud pit, 20 feet deep and cavernous, undulating in texture and height with numerous pools and puddles of water. The swampish scent permeated the room…’

botemp · 04/10/2022 08:34

Oh no mm, hope it's not Covid, although I hope it's not a stinker of a cold either as I had one of those and it just sort of ebbed and flowed for weeks. Good to hear you had a good time though (I hope also sartorially).

Time, I'm not sure with Acne Studios, they're not a huge fashion house with two divisions afaik but their runway pieces sometimes get produced in very limited numbers but it's not the bulk of the retail collection. It's never been this off brand though so maybe that's my wishful thinking 😑

I didn't last long in that Balenciaga show, it just looked a bit like the aftermath of an illegal rave in some barn that got shut down. I've just never really gotten on with Balenciaga under Demna Gvasvalia tbh. Commerciallly it's hugely successful and outperforms practically everyone but I just struggle with what exactly is appealing about it 🤷

I don't really see it as a continuation of Cristobal Balenciaga's vision either, granted those are very big shoes to fill but current Balenciaga just feels like Vetements without the play on logos and better financial backing to me. But Vetements was a fair bit more exciting and worthy of praise IMHO.

There's currently a big Balenciaga exhibition in The Hague that I need to get down to already. I did read an interview with the original French curators of it who did that faux if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all when asked about the current iteration of Balenciaga. It was really obvious they absolutely despised it. It's always puzzled me how little criticism there otherwise is in fashion media, I should really fashion myself a shiny metal hat and so some investigating 🧐

WRT weird fashion shows in general atm, I think the pandemic did a real number on some people in the creative field. From what I've observed anyhow, many completely lost their ability to create at the time and it's left them somewhat 'traumatised', dented confidences anyhow.

Hello, everybody, I'm just trying to catch up with the thread. I thought I'd posted earlier, but it seems it was my imagination. I'm loving all the doggy headscarf photos and fashion show weirdness.

I'm going to try and post more often - and not fall off the thread. Things have been a bit manic chez quirky, with an a likely tribunal over therapy for dd2 and we all had a horrible lurgy which resulted in dd1 with an ear infection and me with a chest infection, cue antibiotics and steroids, again. I hope things are a bit better with you, bani. I'm in definite need of some good, style talk and other interesting discussions.

XingMing · 05/10/2022 19:53

Popping back in to explain my inactivity. DMIL93 decided to dodge a bullet last week and threw herself out of bed. She can't walk more than 20 yards even on a supporting wheeled frame. After 26 hours waiting for an ambulance on the floor of her care home, she's in hospital, had hip replacement surgery on Saturday, and is still completely delirious from the anaesthetic and morphine (and very noisy), but she has had enough and wants out. I feel so guilty for the four other equally ill and elderly old ladies who have to share the ward with her. So we've had SIL to visit (DH and DS both loathe her) and she's coming again this weekend. The prognosis is as gloomy as you would expect but it could take months as there's nothing medically wrong... 2022 can't end soon enough frankly.
